Witch Hunter Rhapsody

Chapter 33 The Wizard's Black Market

This is not a place for good people to live.

Vitas didn't even need to conduct a thorough investigation to reach this conclusion.

The menacing thugs, the women surrounding them, and the area's notorious reputation within the city all suggest that the wizard living here is no good person.

It was already dusk, and Vitas hadn't expected to witness the lives of so many wizards in just one day.

Furthermore, what the woman said was indeed true; this wizard's status must not be low.

Vitas took a deep breath and walked towards the front door.

The two people squatting at the door immediately turned their gazes toward them.

"I've come to see the wizard here; I need to speak with him."

"This isn't something you can just see whenever you want."

"What do you need?"

The man let out a strange laugh.

"What do we need? Money. Money is the best thing in the world; everyone needs it."

Vitas nodded slightly.

"That's great."

He casually tossed a silver coin on the ground, and the man quickly picked it up, while the other remained unchanged.

"That's not enough, sir. Mr. Scott is very busy."

"This doesn't sound like a local surname."

"In any case, you have to give your name first."

"Vitas Vitalius".

"That mercenary? You've been making waves lately, haven't you? What brings you to see our boss?"

"Some important things."

After Vitas gave his name, the man finally agreed to let him meet his boss.

For Vitas, what happened was not particularly unexpected.

The people lying on the ground, the people entwined in the corner, and the bloodstains and filth all over the place might frighten most people, but for Vitas, it was just average.

"So, you're Vitas?"

Let's resolve this quickly.

Vitas looked up, and the appearance of the wizard shocked him.

The wizard was quite thin, almost just a skeleton, yet he still had something like tobacco between his fingers and his left arm around a woman, even though the woman didn't seem happy.

He has the air of a ruler of the underworld, and the only thing that barely connects him to a wizard is his poor health.

Vitas closed his eyes, hoping it was just an illusion; it would be truly unfortunate if he had to deal with this guy.

"What do you want from me?"

"Stop playing dumb. How could someone like you not know about the necromancers that have appeared in the city recently? Even if you don't know, your subordinates should."

The wizard lowered his head slightly, as if in thought, but after a moment, he said, "It seems there is indeed such a thing. So why have you come to see me? You don't actually think that necromancer is me, do you?"

"A spell of this scale requires a considerable amount of materials, as well as the assistance of other wizards, and you are the most likely candidate."

Why?

The wizard, who had just asked the question, laughed to himself as he sat in his seat.

"Oh, sorry, that's a stupid question. Anyone who saw that would think the same thing."

He exhaled, and then a piercing scream came from the room behind him. Everything was perfectly timed, as if it had been rehearsed.

"However, my answer is also very simple: I didn't do that. Okay, you can get lost now."

"How many people did you kill?"

Vitas suddenly asked.

"I don't know. Many people live in the shadows of the city. It's always like that. Unlike you, Mr. Vitalius, although I've never heard of your surname, it must be a glorious family. Did you encounter any difficulties growing up? Under the protection of this family name, even I wouldn't lay a hand on you. It's just to avoid potential trouble. Alright, go back and tell your master, whether it's the Viscount or anyone else, I have no intention of doing these things."

The wizard casually flicked away the ashes, and seeing Vitas's indifference, he said sarcastically.

"What, do you still need me to show you around this wonderful place?"

Why are you so hostile towards me?

"Sorry, it wasn't directed at you, but I'm a shy person, and you're quite famous. You're a formidable guy, and I need to think about my own life."

Vitas took a deep breath. There was no need for him to waste time here with this guy. He should leave and find other wizards. If the wizards in this city weren't involved with necromancers, that would be a good thing.

"Are you really not in league with that necromancer?"

"Absolutely not."

Vitas's expression was unpredictable.

This guy is definitely not a good person.

"So, can you leave now?"

Vitas was seething with anger; he had so much to do today, and still hadn't gotten any results.

This guy's attitude is really annoying.

Vitas finally nodded and said, "That's settled then. Let me know immediately if you discover anything."

"What if I refuse?"

"ha?"

Vitas's gaze swept over the people around him, filthy and sinful. To be honest, there were too many legends in this area, whether it was the mysterious disappearance of the past, the endless supply of corpses, or the slightly strange people who always wandered around.

If that necromancer really did get some help, it must be here.

Vitas's expression gradually relaxed. He followed his attendant to the door and asked, "Are there any other entrances or exits?"

"This is none of your business, is it?"

"This will determine when I get off work."

Vitas said, closing the door and locking it.

"Is this how it's locked? I was just thinking about it."

Everyone around cast wary glances. Swords were drawn, the wizard stood up, and his staff was already pointed at Vitas.

"You really think you can beat me here?"

Who knows?

Vitas's expression was somewhat subtle.

"How will we know if we don't try?"

The wizard's staff glowed. These magical artifacts contain specific spells.

The staff in the hand of the underground wizard of the Ortham underworld before us is filled with lightning magic.

Lightning that was created through magical manipulation, which would not normally exist in this environment.

Then, lightning flashed out.

It charged toward the unarmored knight with extremely high temperature and power.

While some might argue that wearing armor would increase the damage, the effectiveness of armor is minimal against such powerful lightning.

However, a gigantic figure appeared before Vitas, wielding a giant axe, and selflessly shielded the one he had sworn allegiance to from the electric shock.

Then, more and more figures appeared around Vitas, wearing tattered armor and even with mutilated bodies.

"What...?"

Vitas took a long-handled sword from the undead subordinate beside him.

He looked at the person in front of him with a pained expression.

"I need to know information about that wizard."
