Witch Hunter Rhapsody

Chapter 26 The People Who Deployed the Defenses

night.

The Flying Eagle Knights gathered together, while Vitas stood in front of a map of the city, pondering how to defend it.

You look very worried.

"No one can help but worry, especially with a monster that can kill at will still roaming the city."

The city of Otham is not large, with a population of only 150,000. But for one person, 150,000 people is like finding a needle in a haystack.

Not only the Flying Eagle Knights, but other mercenary groups were also employed by the lord. The lord's purpose was simple: to keep his territory free from too much trouble.

"It feels like you've just finished a hunt in the forest, and now you're about to do it again in the city."

Vitas shrugged.

"No matter how you describe it, we need to think of a way to control this guy, at least to prevent further casualties."

"Two members of the Flying Eagle Knights, please come over and discuss the arrangements!"

"They're here."

……

"So, that's why you look so listless today?"

Ether handed the snacks to Vitas, and the two walked in the city's small park.

This small park was built by the Viscount's grandfather. It is one of the few public buildings in the city and also one of the few clean and hygienic places.

"Yes, I was busy with this until very late yesterday, and it was almost dawn by the time I went to bed."

"You don't have to come. Just let me know."

Vitas shook his head.

"I'm not that tired yet. I've often had times when I needed to stay awake for days and nights in a row when I was out."

"What are you doing?"

"It's a war."

Ether suddenly smiled and said.

"You mean, coming out with me is also a war?"

Vitas nodded.

"Yes, war. I am currently waging two wars simultaneously."

Vitas's face showed a moment of frustration. He recalled the previous night's events and answered with a sense of defeat.

"It's probably normal that we can't find that guy. This city is so huge, and there are countless alleys and lanes. We hear noises, notice things are strange, and successfully find more traces."

Vitas shook his head, as if trying to banish all those unpleasant memories.

"However, we ultimately failed. It escaped, and seven people were killed. At least their faces weren't eaten, so we were still able to identify them."

Vitas didn't want to recall what happened last night. After assigning each team to their assigned areas, the Flying Eagle Knights headed to their positions. However, before they were all in place, scouts arrived with information.

"A monster has appeared!"

So everyone rushed over to that area, but when Vitas and the others finally arrived, the monster had vanished, leaving behind only a horrific scene.

Vitas had seen this scene countless times, but each time he felt a strange pity and sadness.

He thought of his companions, wondering if they had suffered the same torment as they were torn apart by the spirits of hell.

"Is it that dangerous?"

"It's much more dangerous than you think, so you'd better avoid going out alone for the next few days."

Etherra joked.

"Even if I go out with my friends, there's nothing I can do if we encounter that monster."

Vitas said quite seriously.

"If you're with your comrades, at least you'll be able to escape if the enemy attacks them, increasing your chances of survival. This is a war, and war is not your duty."

Ether stuck out her tongue. She wasn't quite sure, but she was definitely an amateur when it came to combat, so she'd listen to Vitas.

She didn't want to continue the topic, so she thought of the little girl she had met.

"I also met a strange little girl yesterday."

"Oh? Is it the kind of person who puts on a pitiful act to lure adults into helping them, and then uses despicable means to kidnap them and exploit them?"

"Oh, Vitas, I really don't know what you've been through in the past. There was this little girl who was out there for some reason, she couldn't speak, and she was dressed in rags. I took her out for a meal. After that, she left."

"Don't do this kind of thing again, at least don't do it alone."

"Ha, you're so concerned about me now, I don't know whether to be happy or sad."

After Ether finished speaking, she grabbed Vitas's arm.

"So, do you want to go see that girl yourself? I saw her sitting there this morning, just like yesterday."

"Forget it."

Vitas lowered his eyes, thought carefully for a moment, and then took out some silver coins from his pocket.

"Take this and buy that little girl something to eat."

"Didn't you say that little girl might be a bad person?"

"Since you trust me so much, I don't mind showing my trust in return."

As they spoke, the two arrived at the agreed-upon location, a restaurant. It wasn't high-end, nor was it a place for poor people. For the two of them, it was indeed a good place.

As soon as she entered, several people greeted Ether. Ether was quite famous in the city, as the future owner of Hammer Workshop and a well-known beauty.

In contrast, Vitas, whose name is more famous than his appearance, is not as conspicuous.

"You know a lot of people."

Are you jealous?

"I've heard that a person changes a lot after expressing their feelings. If possible, could you go back to the way you used to be, blushing slightly when you looked up at me?"

"This is very difficult."

"Yes, yes, once a flame exceeds its own limits, it becomes uncontrollable."

The two talked more than usual, but both could sense their own nervousness. Before the main course, Ethera ordered a lot of appetizers, these Othamian specialties almost filling her up. When the main course was served, Vitas hurriedly went to get some, as if that would prove he wasn't nervous enough.

In the end, when the dinner was finished, both of them were quite satisfied, satisfied in the sense of having enough to eat.

Vitas, naturally displaying his magnanimity, paid off the debt, while Ether insisted on paying. After a brief tug-of-war, they finally decided that Ether would pay for the next meal.

In any case, Vitas hadn't had such a relaxed meal in a long time.

Since arriving in Ortham City, he had been busy investigating Viya and adapting to life in the city. Only after successfully killing Viya did he relax a little, and his new life and career could truly begin.

Ever since that damned spell, ever since he lost his companions, he had never had a stable life, and only now was he able to re-examine himself.

He walked behind Ether, watching her walk with the gait of a deer.

He could imagine how wonderful his life could be.

He can live a peaceful life as long as he gives up revenge and cuts ties with Maximus; he has that ability.

Will he give up on revenge?

His body began to ache again.

No, of course not.

Vitas Vitalius is determined to take revenge.
