Chapter 35 Monster Rank
The Snow Elf Village is located in a horseshoe-shaped valley just below the snow line on the mountainside. It has only five households and raises snow chickens, snow rabbits, and snow goats.
The entrance to the valley is about 20 meters away. A three-meter-high wall was built with clay and rubble, and there was only one three-meter-wide iron-framed wooden door.
The wall is still intact, but the door has been forcibly broken open, and two frost ogres are standing or sitting in the doorway, roasting a freshly slaughtered snow goat over a campfire.
Lorne did not lead the 60 elves directly into the village to fight. Instead, he had them disperse and ambush behind trees, bushes, or rocks outside the pass, ready to provide fire support with bows and arrows at any time.
Monteridge, on the other hand, had found a safe and secluded spot on the high ground south of the village in advance to provide reconnaissance information and sniper support.
After all the personnel were deployed, Lorne turned his magic ring to enter stealth mode, told Nelly to stay put, and then sneaked towards the two frost ogres alone.
The two frost ogres were about 3.7 meters and 4 meters tall, respectively, with large bellies and thick waists, and their limbs appeared rather short and thick compared to their bodies.
His skin was bluish-gray, and he wore a fur coat haphazardly sewn together from several different kinds of raw fur.
These fur coats are styled like vests for summer, barely covering most of the body while leaving the limbs completely exposed. It seems that their decorative function outweighs their warmth.
Its feet were completely bare, but from its knees to the soles of its feet, it had thick gray hair just like a Yeti, so it wasn't afraid of its feet getting cold even after walking in the snow for a long time.
Its mouth is as wide as other types of ogres, and its lower canines, like those of orcs, have grown into two outward-facing tusks.
The bridge of the nose is not high, but the tip of the nose is very large. The two large nostrils open and close with each breath, and the nose hairs are so thick that they look like two small short brushes.
His irises were yellowish-green, and his eyes, which looked like two small green beans against the backdrop of his large face, were sunken deep in their sockets, giving him an appearance that made him seem rather dim-witted.
"Is it done yet?" the smaller frost ogre asked, drool spilling from the corner of its mouth as it spoke.
"Let me try it," said the large ogre, picking up a half-roasted whole lamb and taking a bite, chewing it with smacking sounds.
The short, frost-covered ogre stared intently, swallowing hard. Seeing that the other was only chewing and not speaking, he couldn't help but ask, "Is it done yet?"
The large ogre gulped down the mutton in his mouth and said, "Not ready yet, roast it some more."
After saying that, he put the whole roasted lamb, which had already been almost half-eaten, back on the fire to roast again.
The roast lamb had just turned once on the rack when the short, frost-covered ogre couldn't help but ask again, "Is it ready yet?"
"Let me try it." The big ogre took the sheep off the fire and took a big bite, chewing it with smacking sounds.
"Stop tasting! You've almost finished!" The small cannibal finally realized something was wrong and panicked.
"Didn't you ask? Why are you blaming me?" The big guy also got angry.
"I don't care, you've already eaten half of it, the remaining half is mine!" The short guy reached out to snatch the remaining half of the roasted lamb.
"Get out of my way!" The big guy protected the roasted lamb with both hands and kicked the small guy to the ground.
"Roar!" The smaller one was furious. He got up and pounced on the bigger one, swinging his fists wildly.
The two frost ogres immediately started fighting over the remaining half of the roasted lamb.
The Frost Ogre was as strong as it was physically, grinding the pebbles on the ground with a crunching sound as it struggled, leaving only a few shallow white marks on its exposed, rough, thick skin.
While the two frost ogres were fighting, Lorne quickly sneaked to the gate and used the system to check his appearance.
[Level 8 Frost Ogre (Tier 2), 200/200 HP.]
[Level 10 Frost Ogre (Tier 2), 200/200 HP.]
My level is over 0, but I don't have a class, yet my health is so high?
And what does "2nd order" mean?
As always, the system provided an explanation for Lorne's questions:
~~~
The higher the monster's rank, the more traits it possesses, and the higher its growth potential.
For every +1 monster rank, all rolls increase by 1.
The maximum health of a monster = Constitution × 5 × Monster Rank.
Note:
When the monster's rank is 1, it will not be displayed by default.
Monsters without a class are not displayed by default.
~~~
Wow, is the [Monster Rank] bonus really that high? Suddenly, the Dire Wolf doesn't seem so appealing anymore.
Lorne immediately broke the servant contract between the two dire wolves and quietly extended two psionic tentacles toward the two frost ogres that were wrestling.
[A level 8 Frost Ogre has become your contracted servant.]
[Level 10 Frost Ogre successfully saves; Contract Servant conversion fails.]
Lorne immediately used two psionic tentacles to strangle the level 10 frost ogre's neck, while simultaneously giving orders to his new servant.
The big guy felt short of breath and immediately reached for his neck, but before he could finish, the little ogre grabbed his wrist.
The big guy immediately widened his eyes in panic and frantically winked at the little guy, signaling that a third party was attacking and that he should let go immediately.
As a result, the shorter man not only didn't let go, but he actually put in even more effort.
The big guy then realized something was wrong and started kicking his legs wildly, struggling desperately.
Unfortunately, the two invisible tentacles that were strangling his neck were incredibly strong, leaving him no hope of breaking free.
A visible indentation was left on the burly man's neck by the constriction, and the skin above the indentation quickly changed from bluish-gray to flushed red, and then from flushed red to purplish-blue. The struggles grew weaker and weaker, until finally he lay still.
Lorne thought the giant was probably dead, but just to be safe, he didn't loosen his tentacles. Instead, he maintained the strangulation posture and tried to refine it into a [alien life-sustaining husk].
The giant ogre's liver-colored face returned to normal at a visible speed.
You have successfully transformed a level 10 Frost Ogre (corpse) into [Alien Body - Substitute Body].
Call ~
Lorne let out a soft breath, gave the small ogre a new command, and then immediately changed into his substitute body, attacking in his Frost Ogre form.
The next second, the frost ogre Lorne opened his eyes and sat up from the ground.
The small ogre, having received prior orders, did not attack Lorne, but his eyes still couldn't help glancing at the half-eaten roasted lamb lying beside him.
Lorne casually picked up the half-roasted lamb and tossed it to the small cannibal, saying, "You can have the lamb, but remember, under no circumstances are you allowed to harm the elves."
"Yes, Master!" the little ogre immediately replied loudly.
Lorne quickly made a shushing gesture and whispered, "What are you yelling about? Could you be an undercover agent?"
The small cannibal shrank back and quickly apologized in a low voice, "I'm sorry, Master."
"Alright, alright, you stay here and keep watch, ready to provide backup at any time."
Lorne waved his hand, stood up from the ground, and his 4-meter height allowed him to see directly over the 3-meter-high stone wall and into the snow elf village.
A large bonfire was lit in the open space in the center of the village, and five frost ogres were butchering and roasting a sheep. The largest of the ogres even had two heads.
