Full-Time Psychic Martial Artist
Chapter 3 A Narrow Escape
After selecting the spell, Lorne opened the attribute panel and pondered how to allocate this 1 point of basic attribute.
If you add points to Intelligence, Perception, or Charisma, 1 point of that attribute will not increase your Psionic Modifier, but will only increase your maximum Mana by 10 points.
It would only mean casting one more level 1 spell, but I chose [Hunter's Mark] and don't lack mana, so adding spirit attribute wouldn't improve the upcoming battle.
As for strength and agility, the increase is only 10 points above the stamina cap, so the improvement is not significant.
Adding to Constitution is different; it not only increases the maximum Stamina by 10 points, but also the maximum Health by 5 points. Ah Tui currently only has 65 Health, so this is a huge improvement.
Once the martial artist reaches level 1 and obtains the "Limitless Physique", leveling up physique by 1 point will increase both physique adjustment value by 1 point and maximum health by 5 points, which is simply perfect.
Therefore, Lorne decisively chose to upgrade his 'Constitution'.
Now that everything is ready, it's time to launch a surprise attack and start the war.
Lorne is located on the right side of the cage, near the front of the vehicle, about 3 meters away from the warrior, about 2.5 meters away from the giant wolf, and about 2 meters away from the barbarian.
He closed his eyes and pretended to sleep, but in reality, he controlled two psionic tentacles to extend from his hands, pass through the gaps in the wooden cage of the prison cart, and quietly arrive at the left and right sides of the orc warrior's head.
Both humans and tentacles have the ability to see blindly for 1 meter. This feeling is very strange, like observing the world with your tentacles while your eyes are closed, but your field of vision is only 1 meter, and there is no color, only outlines.
Fortunately, the outline was clear enough to aim at the orc's two eyes.
The orc's perception was only around 8 points, and he didn't sense the invisible tentacles that were right next to him.
Lorne slowly took a deep breath, held it, aimed at the orc's eyes, and suddenly thrust out his tentacles.
With a soft "plop," the tentacle precisely pierced the eyeball. A sticky, resistant sensation flashed by, followed by a warm, soothing feeling from the tip of the tentacle, clearly indicating that it had reached the orc's brain.
The orc growled in pain and instinctively reached out to grab the psionic tentacles.
Lorne did not withdraw the tentacle, but instead plunged it into the orc's brain and stirred it wildly.
Just as the orc's hand was about to touch the tentacle, his whole body began to tremble as if he were having an epileptic seizure.
At the same time, the system battle reports were being updated rapidly:
You have applied the Hunter's Mark to the orc warrior.
[You launched two attacks against the orc warrior, dealing two critical hits!]
The orc warrior suffered 18 x 2 points of piercing damage.
The orc warrior takes 14 x 2 points of psionic damage.
The orc warrior takes 3+5 points of force field damage.
The orc warrior suffered a severe head injury and his life force was reduced to zero.
You killed the orc warrior.
Having landed a successful blow, Lorne immediately drew out his psionic tentacles and attacked the dire wolf.
The warrior's growl had already attracted the attention of the barbarian and the dire wolf.
The dire wolf's wild instincts were a frantic warning that death was approaching, but being leashed, it had no way to escape and could only activate its berserk passive defense.
The moment Lorne transferred the Hunter's Mark to the dire wolf, two psionic tentacles pierced the dire wolf's eyes.
When enraged, the dire wolf gains resistance to blunt, slash, and piercing damage, but the enraged resistance in this world is not simply a flat 50%.
Lorne can still deal 6 hits in one turn after using the Hunter's Mark, and neither his psionic damage nor his force field damage is affected by berserk resistance.
So he still managed to defeat the dire wolf in one round.
During this time, the barbarians were trying to find the attackers, but of the four people in the car, Lorne was feigning sleep, the other two were unconscious, and only the village chief was looking at the front of the car in surprise, clearly unaware of what had happened.
The barbarian instantly realized that it wasn't the people in the car who did it, but he couldn't find the source of the strange attack for a while, so he turned around and ran into the forest, which actually allowed him to escape the attack range of the psionic tentacles.
After dealing with the dire wolf, Lorne immediately opened his eyes, transferred the Hunter's Mark to the barbarian, and simultaneously extended one hand from the gap in the cage to cast a spell, pointing it at the barbarian who was running away with his back to him.
A bolt of black lightning shot out from the fingertip, bending at several small angles before accurately striking the barbarian on the back of the head.
The barbarian felt a buzzing sound behind his head, and instinctively felt an energy that was both like a heavy hammer hitting him and like countless fine needles piercing through him, causing him to stagger and almost fall to the ground.
Lorne seized the opportunity to unleash a second psionic lightning bolt, but due to the orc's hunchback and stagger, the bolt missed the back of the head and struck his buttocks instead.
"Roar~!"
The orc roared and went berserk, his eyes glowing crimson, and his body seemed to grow slightly larger.
He immediately steadied himself and turned to find the source of the attack, only to see a white bean sprout in the prison cart aiming at him with a spellcasting gesture.
The orc was enraged and charged straight at the prison cart.
Lorne felt helpless, experiencing for the first time how awkward the early game was for spellcasters.
With 8 points of mental energy, you can cast a maximum of 2 spells per round. Once you've used them all, you'll be stuck standing there as punishment.
Although his energy and mental strength had been fully restored, Lorne did not continue to unleash psionic lightning.
One reason is that the opponent is already on guard, and the psionic lightning might be dodged. After all, the system also said that reality should be the standard.
On the other hand, it's because barbarians charge very quickly, and if they run out of both their mobility and mental strength, they'll be at a disadvantage.
Therefore, Lorne's choice was to quietly eject two psionic tentacles from the prison cart, dynamically aiming at the barbarian's eyes, waiting for the moment the barbarian entered his attack range to launch a sneak attack.
Fortunately, the barbarian, in his berserk state, seemed to have forgotten how his companion died, or perhaps he was focused entirely on dodging Lorne's psionic lightning.
In short, he charged straight into the attack range of the psionic tentacles, raised his two-handed heavy axe, and swung it at Lorne with an aura that seemed to want to cleave him and the car in two.
Despite his fear, Lorne stared intently at the orc swinging his axe. His two tentacles pierced out with precision; one tentacle veered slightly off course and struck the thick-skinned brow bone, while the other tentacle pierced the eye socket with deadly accuracy.
The orc, in his berserk state, seemed to feel no pain. He still swung his battle axe, but fortunately, his injured eye caused his aim to deviate slightly, and the axe ultimately struck the bars of the prison cart.
With a crisp crack, the thick wooden prison bars were split in two, but fortunately, they didn't break completely, still providing Lorne with a round of defense.
As Lorne seized the moment when the orc sheathed his axe, another psionic tentacle precisely pierced the other eye.
"Roar!" The orc roared, instinctively reaching out to pull out the unseen yet palpable tentacles.
Lorne did the same, piercing the orc's brain with his two tentacles and stirring it wildly. The orc's body convulsed violently, his limbs became unresponsive, and then he stopped moving.
You killed the orcish barbarian.
You have completed the adventure event "Escape from Death" and gained 100 x 10 experience points. (1000/1000)
You have accumulated enough experience to level up.
"Phew~"
Lorne breathed a sigh of relief, and only when he came to his senses did he realize that his heart was pounding like a drum and his hands were trembling slightly.
This was his first battle after transmigrating, and it was impossible for him not to be nervous. Fortunately, everything went smoothly, and he got off to a good start.
