Magical Cat

Chapter 15 The Bet

"Teacher, I protest!"

Weber was completely yelling.

When he shouted that, some of his classmates couldn't help but laugh.

Weber was already comical-looking, and given this situation, he was incredibly unlucky.

The students were actually very clear from the beginning that the final assessment in class would ultimately be based on their own abilities.

Using a wand doesn't violate school rules, but it's still a form of cheating.

Magicians value bloodline and talent. Although they don't shy away from using external aids, they are still children and relatively simple-minded, and they care a lot about their reputation.

That's why even those students who had wands didn't use them right away.

Deep down, everyone still wants to prove themselves with their own abilities.

But as Webber was the first to pull out his wand, the others were not to be outdone, after all, it concerned their excellent evaluation in class.

Faced with tangible benefits, the students also put away their childishness and appeared more mature.

But now, Waver was the first to shamelessly pull out his wand, and not only did he lose to Elaine, a commoner sponsored student, but he didn't even make it into the top ten. It's really not fair.

So, if he doesn't become a prominent figure in Wenzhou, then who will?

"Ms. Melina, that stinky...commoner, how did she get first place? Several of us, even with our wands, weren't as fast as her. She must have cheated!"

"Cancel her grades and thoroughly investigate her wrongdoing!"

Weber shouted loudly, his chest heaving violently, his skin as red as a boiled shrimp, looking exactly like a shrimp-headed man.

Elaine remained expressionless, completely ignoring her, and continued her target practice.

Li En frowned.

Weber's accusations were completely unreasonable, but the class difference between nobles and commoners might make such sophistry effective.

"Weber, do you think the teacher is being unfair?" Melina retorted coldly.

Weber clicked his tongue in displeasure, feeling even more annoyed.

It is a well-known fact that Ms. Melina has taken good care of this commoner since the start of the school year.

After all, in an environment like the Royal Magic Academy, Melina's fairness in treating Elaine was already a special form of favoritism.

"Teacher, I just want to ask, why is she faster than us?" Webber raised his wand, his face full of indignation.

This is a question that probably not only Weber wants to ask.

The other students were more or less dissatisfied.

From childhood, they were taught that magic was a privilege of the nobility, and that they were the elite among one in ten thousand.

As for the commoners, they were livestock like pigs, cattle, horses, and sheep, existing only to serve the nobles.

This concept is deeply ingrained in the aristocratic class, which is the fundamental reason why Weber and others cannot accept the fact that Elaine is superior to them.

If they are not even as good as the livestock in their own eyes, then what are they?

"Mr. Weber, I can answer that question for you." Ms. Melina's expression turned serious.

"In the world of magicians, nothing can bridge the gap between talents."

"Nothing at all!"

Ms. Melina's tone was serious and resolute.

The students couldn't help but tremble in unison, their minds, which had been clouded by jealousy and resentment, gradually calming down.

Then, Ms. Melina's tone suddenly softened.

"People often say that magical talent is a privilege of the nobility."

So, is a commoner who possesses magical talent still just a commoner?

Or does acquiring magical talent automatically transform a commoner into a noble?

Was the first person to possess magical talent a commoner or a nobleman?

Melina's series of questions made the students fall into deep thought, and even Elaine and Li En started to think as well.

"Mr. Weber, if you still can't understand, then I suggest you try it yourself."

You and Elaine are both fire-attribute. The next practical lesson will be when you advance the elemental ball magic you learned today into fireball magic. You can have another competition then.

I believe that by then, you will have a deeper understanding of the current issues.

Melina's patient guidance prompted Weber to think things through calmly.

After a moment of silence, Weber placed his hand on his chest and bowed.

"Thank you for your guidance, Ms. Melina. I will think carefully about your questions."

With that, Weber glanced at Elaine: "As for the contest, I accept!"

"If I win, give me back the excellent evaluation I received in class today."

"If I lose, I will apologize to her."

Finally, Weber stared intently in Elaine's direction.

Webber thought he had made a cool bet.

But as soon as he finished speaking, he didn't receive a reply from Elaine, but rather a series of meows from cats, each high and low, brimming with emotion.

"Meow~"

In response to this shameless condition, Li En immediately adopted the Spinosaurus form and launched into a tirade of curses.

Even people who have never owned a cat can tell that this is extremely vulgar language.

If Li En weren't currently unable to speak, he would have cursed the Weber family genealogy to the point of spontaneous combustion.

The serious atmosphere that had been created by Melina's teaching was instantly gone.

Even Elaine's usually stern face showed a hint of embarrassment.

She hadn't intended to respond to Weber's challenge, but her own cat seemed to be behaving rather rudely, shocking everyone present.

Teacher Melina hadn't expected things to develop this way, and her eye twitched involuntarily.

Just then, Safina, who had been observing the situation for a long time, adjusted her glasses and said, "This bet is unfair!"

Before Weber could retort, Safina continued, "Weber's apology isn't even worth a classmate's excellent evaluation."

Upon hearing this, the students burst into laughter, and the atmosphere in the classroom became cheerful.

Upon hearing that laugh, Webber, whose mood had cooled down somewhat, suddenly turned red again.

"Safina, you!?"

Webber gritted his teeth in anger, then reached into his pocket and pulled out a gold coin.

"I'll add another gold coin!"

The laughter subsided as the gold coin gleamed.

Webber held up the gold coin and looked at Elaine: "Commoner, are you short of money? If you win, I'll not only apologize to you, but I'll also give you a gold coin."

Just as Li En was about to open his mouth to continue scolding the kid for being stingy, Elaine covered his mouth first.

"Okay, I promise."

Elaine accepted the bet with a straight face.

Li En was taken aback. Then, turning to look at everyone's reactions, he immediately realized that this gold coin was not as worthless as he had thought.

"No wonder he's the young master of the Vanyestorm family, he's really rich," someone commented.

But Safina still shook her head: "It's still not fair. A gold coin may be a lot, but it can't buy an excellent classroom evaluation at the Royal Magic Academy..."

"Shut up, you bookworm! She already agreed, what's it to you?" Weber finally snapped.

Safina usually only cares about studying, so why is she targeting him at every turn today? Weber gets angrier and angrier the more he thinks about it.

But since the other party was a well-known academic star in the class, Weber didn't really dare to do anything to her.

At this moment, Elaine also spoke up, "Thank you for speaking up for me, Safina."

"But I've already decided to accept Weber's challenge."

Seeing that there was something to watch, the students immediately joined in the fun.

As Ms. Melina watched this scene, she couldn't help but smile, and a look of reminiscence gradually appeared in her eyes.

Looking at her students, she can't help but reminisce about her own student days.

“That’s great…”
