Chapter 34: A Pie Falling from the Sky
Looking at the words "Special Label" on the top line, Li En couldn't quite understand what made it special.
But when Li En saw the results line, he understood what made it special.
"It can rewrite the future of the people you care about to some extent."
The mere fact that he said that sentence was enough to shock Li En.
The labels he received previously either brought about substantial physical changes or granted him special abilities.
But no other label can achieve such conceptual and causal changes as this "Guardian"!
This is a terrifying label!
Lee En confirmed this almost instantly.
However, he is still a little way from earning this label.
The labels of "materialist warrior" and "loyal dog" are each one level apart.
There's also a question mark tag, whose content is currently unknown. Perhaps we'll have to wait until he searches for other tags to find the answer.
Don't rush.
Li En took a deep breath to calm her excited emotions.
The more impatient he is, the slower things will progress; he only needs to speed up his pace slightly.
Everything is still under control.
……
The chimes of Big Ben echoed from outside the library, and Caesar was the first to leave.
After Caesar left, Li En did not linger. He finished his tea in one gulp, said goodbye to Monroe, and left the library with his books in his pocket.
Carrying a tray, Monroe came out of the reading room and went to the registration desk.
"Feuer".
Following the sound, Monroe looked toward Nova at the registration desk.
Ever since Li En and Nova mentioned Monroe, Nova seemed to realize that their relationship was unusual, and she started calling Monroe by this almost nickname-like way.
"Is there something you need, Miss Clark?"
Nova said, "When can you ask Mr. Wells if he would like to have dinner with me? I've been waiting for him for so long, but he always tells me it'll be next time."
Is it possible that he is rejecting you?
Monroe didn't say it aloud. Nova was indeed a very beautiful woman, but in Monroe's opinion, she was not good enough for Lee.
"I'll ask for you next time," Monroe said, brushing Nova off with similar words.
Nova brandished her rusty dip pen, her gaze fixed on the library entrance.
"Mr. Wells has a mysterious scent about him."
Monroe raised his head slightly.
Nova said to herself, "While this smell is indeed very appealing, it's also quite dangerous. Who knows... one day Mr. Wells might suddenly disappear from our sight."
Monroe did not speak.
He had already warned Li En that attempting to touch anything beyond the material world would bring him great trouble.
But Monroe felt that Lee En wouldn't be deterred by such a warning.
A sudden thought struck Monroe: the spirit disk in his home, which his father had hidden away until his death.
"Perhaps I should do something."
……
It's another ordinary Monday.
Lee and Blake walked out of the chapel and into the dining room.
Today, Li En deliberately didn't eat breakfast at home, but instead moved it to the school cafeteria so that he could easily copy the labels of the students in the cafeteria.
Looking around, Li En didn't find any labels of materialist fighter, which was somewhat of a pity.
However, they did discover a natural investigator and a genius in the occult.
Having incorporated these two labels into the replication process, Li Engang and Blake sat down at a dining table, only to hear a question coming from across the table.
"Have you heard? The Hound of the Baskervilles?"
Upon hearing these eight words, Li En paused for a moment as he was stuffing bacon into his mouth.
Blake immediately became interested and asked Simon, "What is that? It sounds much more interesting than 'An Introduction to the System of Hermesism.' Let's talk about it!"
Simon said, "That's just a rumor I heard. There's a professor at the University of Michigan named Baskerville who bought a hunting dog from the market to conduct experiments in the occult."
"One day, after a routine experiment, Professor Baskerville locked the hounds in their cages, closed the laboratory door, and left."
The next day, Professor Baskerville returned to the laboratory and discovered something terrifying!
Simon paused deliberately, even lowering his voice, to heighten Blake's anticipation.
"Then, the professor discovered that the hunting dogs he had used for his experiments had vanished! Without a trace!"
Ruby took a sip of Lee En's specially made coffee, shook her head helplessly, and said, "What a boring suspense story..."
Li En nodded in agreement. "It sounds like a detective novel serialized in Bentley magazine, the kind where the plot is deliberately suspenseful, but the answer is obvious at a glance."
"I'm telling the truth. This is a rumor that many University of Michigan students know," Simon said, looking at Li En and Ruby with a strange expression. "You two didn't know?"
Li En and Ruby both shook their heads.
"How boring! Your lives are so boring!" Simon sighed, looking at Blake sitting across from him. "So, Raymond, are you interested in this story?"
Blake shook his head vigorously. "I thought it was something serious, but it's just a lost dog. Don't you have any stories about vampires, werewolves, or the dead coming back to life?"
Simon, seeing the stark contrast between his own and the three men's reactions, suddenly realized that he was the odd one out among them.
"Alright, your three majors are different from mine, and your focus is different too."
Li En asked curiously, "What are you and Miss Linda's majors?"
Simon introduced himself: "I majored in natural philosophy and was supposed to study at Oxford University, but my private tutor recommended that I study at the University of Michigan."
Natural Philosophy major...
In terms of physics and chemistry?
"I see," Li En nodded slightly, "This is a major with great potential."
Simon grinned. "Yes, that's what my teacher said too. Although it's still developing, it should have a bright future!"
"And you?" Li En asked Ruby.
Ruby put down her coffee cup. "I'm a law student, and I might become the first female lawyer in history someday."
Oh, I didn't know the University of Michigan had these two majors.
After talking with the two, this was Li En's strongest thought.
He thought the University of Michigan only offered theology and classics.
After chatting for a while, Li En also copied both labels from the cafeteria.
[Mystical genius has reached Lv3]
[Occult Genius Lv3]
[Effect 1: Gain more knowledge of occultism and increase your ability to learn occult content by 150%]
[Effect 2: When identifying items related to mysticism, you will receive vague clues.]
[Effect 3: You can subtly influence scholars in related fields around you, increasing the probability that they will be labeled as geniuses in the occult]
Subtly influencing scholars in their respective fields increases the likelihood of them being labeled.
Li En was somewhat surprised.
Doesn't this perfectly align with his idea of trying out artificial labels?
This is truly like a pie falling from the sky!
