Chapter 18: Swordplay Lesson
Ruby Frederick?
Li En took a sip of coffee without making a sound, a sense of confusion rising in his heart.
So Linda Rowland must be a pseudonym, but why would she use a pseudonym to respond to them?
Judging from Blake and Simon's expressions, it seemed that in their minds, the girl in front of them should be called Linda Rowland, not Ruby Frederick as Li En saw her.
Could it be that she has some reason for having to hide her name?
Lee En immediately became very interested in Ruby.
However, the most urgent task is to copy this brand new label.

After choosing to copy Ruby's fraudster label, Lee En realized that she had already finished her coffee.
Simon pulled a pocket watch from his vest pocket, glanced at the time, and said, "Oh, it's almost time, Linda, let's go."
Two labels were still missing from the copy, and Li En quickly asked, "Where are you going?"
Simon explained, "I have a swordsmanship class coming up. Would you like to come and watch? It's a required course for you next year, so you can come and learn about it in advance."
Ruby replied with a smile, "I was supposed to have an etiquette class, but I'm quite interested in swordsmanship, so I'm planning to check it out first. Would you like to come along?"
Blake wasn't interested and waved his hand. "I'd rather learn horseback riding. A real man should ride a white horse and gallop across the road! Have you ever seen Scotland Yard officers on horseback? It's just too..."
Li En raised his hand to interrupt Blake, knowing that if he kept rambling on, it would never end.
"I'm also quite interested in swordsmanship lessons, please let me observe."
Swordsmanship, horsemanship, etiquette, and even dance are all compulsory courses for nobles. Although the University of Michigan is a comprehensive school that mixes nobles, middle-class people, and commoners, such courses are naturally not neglected.
"Aishie," Li En asked Estelle beside him, "Are you going?"
Estelle shook her head and swallowed the dark bread in a few bites. "No, no, I'll go see Professor Osborn. Maybe there's anything I can help with."
Li En responded, patted her head, stood up, picked up the empty tray, placed it at the designated recycling point, and then followed Ruby and Simon deeper into the University of Michigan campus.
Along the way, Simon asked a lot about Lee En's family. When he learned that his family had fallen on hard times and that his father could only maintain a comfortable life by selling his voting rights in the House of Lords, Simon silently patted Lee En on the shoulder.
"It's okay, everything will be alright."
Li En: "..."
Ruby, however, conjured up the corresponding image in her mind after hearing Li En's description.
"Is your father Sir Ronan Welsh?"
Li Enwei nodded slightly. "You know my father?"
Ruby replied, "It's hard not to know him. Although there are many people in the Senate like your father who make their fortunes by selling their voting rights, only your father puts a price tag on his votes. Is that a sign of his audacity or a lack of consideration?"
"In short, your father's practice of openly setting prices is almost a provocation to the nobles in the same situation as him. I suggest that you go back and persuade your father to stop doing this."
"Selling voting rights is fine, but if it leads to your death, then it's not worth it."
Li En felt that what she said made some sense.
Upon arriving at the swordsmanship class venue, the domed building looked like a miniature football field.
Straight beams of light pierced through the long windows of the swordplay hall, just like real longswords, exuding an aggressive aura.
On one side of the wall hung training swords, rapiers, greatswords, and protective gear, and the air was filled with the smell of leather soaked in sweat.
Several students in training uniforms stood in front of an instructor who looked quite muscular, clearly the result of years of training.
"Mr. Bourne," the fencing instructor turned to look at Simon as he approached and said coldly, "you're late. Was breakfast too delicious?"
Simon chuckled sheepishly. "No, on my way here I ran into two students who were quite interested in swordsmanship class, chatted with them for a while, and then brought them along."
The swordsmanship instructor looked up at Ruby and Li En. Ruby curtsied and placed her hands on either side of her skirt.
The movement was very light, more like a symbolic knee bend.
"Hello, my name is Linda Roland," Ruby introduced herself, giving her false name, "daughter of the Viscount Roland."
"Sir Roland?" The swordsmanship instructor frowned slightly, as if he sensed something was amiss.
However, he didn't expose it, but just looked at Li En.
Seeing that the swordsmanship instructor's gaze had fallen on him, Li En was preparing to introduce himself.
"No need, I know you, Mr. Lien Wells," the swordsmanship instructor actually said Lien's name directly. "Professor Eli Thorne often mentions your name among the instructors, saying that you may be a genius in the field of occultism."
So I'm already famous?
Even though the other person knew her name, Li En still gave a symbolic bow.
"Since you're interested in swordsmanship, you can observe from the sidelines for now," the swordsmanship instructor said to the two. "Mr. Bourne, please go and get your protective gear and longsword. Today, we'll be teaching you the most basic parrying and blocking techniques."
Watching Simon join the fencing class, Li En and Ruby found a place to rest and sit down at the edge of the fencing hall.
In the center of the swordplay hall, the swordplay instructor began his guidance to the students.
"Gentlemen, always remember that swordsmanship is an elegant sport. Always maintain the elegance of a superior and do not lose your composure."
"When moving forward, backward, or sideways, you must maintain the most basic footwork. Do not cross your feet when moving forward or backward, as this can easily trip you up."
"Your sword tip should always be pointed at your opponent, and you shouldn't want your opponent to seize the initiative. In that case, you should always keep your target on your opponent!"
"The sword's trajectory must be straight, not meandering like a python. After the thrust, immediately defend. Treat this as a back-and-forth battle of offense and defense, giving your opponent no opening!"
……
Watching the swordsmanship instructor's guidance, Li En felt somewhat bored.
He initially thought that swordsmanship class was the kind of course similar to self-defense.
However, upon closer inspection, the swordsmanship lessons these nobles were learning seemed more like a social activity than an actual attempt to kill enemies or defend themselves.
"This is so boring..."
Before Li En could speak, Ruby spoke up first, her eyes revealing a hint of disgust.
"That's true to some extent," Lee decided to go along with Ruby's words, since the labels were about to be copied anyway. "I originally wanted to learn self-defense, but I don't feel the need to learn this kind of social sport like dancing."
Ruby looked at Li En with some surprise, "You're supposed to be a member of a fallen noble family, so you should care a lot about your reputation. How come you find social events uninteresting?"
A typical fallen nobleman would put in a lot of effort in social interactions in order to maintain his noble status and get along normally with other nobles.
Ruby was genuinely surprised that Lee Eun-nung would say something like that.
Li En didn't reveal that he was a time traveler, but instead replied, "Perhaps my thoughts are different from those of ordinary nobles."
Ruby looked Li En up and down, but didn't say anything more.
Soon, Li En copied Ruby's fraudster label.
[Label copied]
[Fraudster]
[Effect: If you are firm enough, you can get someone to believe a lie that isn't too outrageous.]
Another label indicating special abilities has been acquired.
Li En breathed a sigh of relief and, taking this opportunity, chose to begin replicating Simon's label as a swordsmanship master.
