Chapter 14: The Mysterious Young Man

"Standing while looking at the information isn't very convenient," Lee En said, noticing the label and wanting to get closer. "Let's find a place to sit down and look at it."

Holding the book, Munro hesitated. "But I'm still working. Miss Clark will report me..."

"It's alright," Li En said, patting his chest. "I'll talk to Miss Clark in a bit, she'll understand."

In order to gain more labels, Lee Eun felt that there was nothing wrong with selling her body once.

Monroe had indeed heard that Nova was very fond of Li En's looks and temperament, and with Li En's involvement, Nova probably wouldn't say anything.

Li En sat down next to the young man in the dark charcoal jacket, deliberately getting closer to him and choosing to copy the label.

Even labels with special effects can be copied in just two hours, which is good news for Lee En.

"Look," Monroe said, opening the book and pointing to a page, "this symbol is a marker used by the Church to identify unusual objects. Whenever they determine that an object may possess some kind of evil power, they will use this symbol to mark it."

He turned the silver candlestick over and pointed to a pattern that looked like a dahlia on the bottom of the base. "This pattern is exactly the same, which means that the church considers this thing to be some kind of abnormal object with evil power."

"And this power is closely related to the occult."

Monroe continued, "In the Church's view, mysticism is some ancient and evil force, a blasphemous force that is not recognized by God."

Li En nodded in understanding.

Although the church does not endorse mysticism, the good news is that they also do not endorse modern science, believing that modern science attempts to use a fixed formula to understand everything God has given them.

In their view, deconstructing the divine in this way is an act of offense against God.

In essence, they only recognize the theories that are beneficial to them. The fact that they accept both science and mysticism could potentially shake the foundations of their rule.

"I understand that," Li En asked again, "but how do I know what kind of effect this thing has?"

This question stumped Monroe; aside from high-frequency experiments, there seemed to be only one other way.

"Ahem... Perhaps you could try asking someone within the church?"

Li En looked up and saw the person speaking was the young man in a dark charcoal-colored coat sitting diagonally opposite him.

His face was somewhat pale, and he had short chestnut hair, but every strand was quite smooth, unlike the hair quality that a middle-class person would have.

"Sorry," the young man smiled apologetically, "I didn't mean to interrupt. I hope I didn't bother you. Just pretend I didn't say anything."

Li En quickly replied, "It's alright, there's strength in numbers. Do you know anything about the occult?"

"A little bit, cough cough..." The young man coughed a few times. "I learned a little about the occult when I was in school, but I'm different from you. I'm not a student at the University of Michigan. I was taught by a private tutor from the church."

A private tutor in the church?

Upon hearing this, Monroe frowned slightly. "Friend, you must be a nobleman, right? The church usually only assigns private tutors to the sons of counts and above. The average middle class can't afford the price of a private tutor from the church."

"Shh," the sickly-looking young man gestured for silence, "I'm sorry, I don't want to cause trouble, but I'm quite interested in some of the books in the library, so I come here specifically to look."

He then introduced himself to the two of them, saying, "My name is Caesar, and yours is Caesar?"

"Monroe Phoenix."

"Lee En Wales".

Having finally found an opportunity to get closer to Caesar, Li En immediately moved to the opposite side of him and gestured to the library staff.

"Excuse me, could I please have two cups of Ceylon tea and one cup of unsweetened black coffee? Thank you."

Then, Li En asked Caesar and Monroe, "Would you like some sandwiches?"

Caesar smiled slightly. "Thank you."

Monroe waved his hands repeatedly, "No need, I..."

Before he could finish speaking, his stomach suddenly rumbled loudly.

Exactly the same as Estelle before.

Sure enough, it's not that the family doesn't enter the house.

"Three more egg sandwiches, please."

Soon, the waiter brought over the ordered tea and snacks. The black tea was quite exquisite, with a rich aroma, but the black coffee was a bit lacking.

However, for a Londoner who loves tea, Li En felt that he was already lucky to be able to drink coffee here, and there was no need to be picky.

Monroe felt embarrassed as Li En fed him again, but since the food was already in his mouth, he couldn't refuse. He could only resolve in his heart that he must do his best to help this kind person in the future, while shamelessly swallowing the sandwich.

"Regarding what you just said," Li En said to Caesar, "your teacher who guided your occult studies was a private tutor in the church. Do you think he would understand this candlestick?"

Caesar thought for a moment, then shrugged. "Perhaps. My mentor...cough...he seems to be an administrator in the church, holding a position above the archdeacon. He might know about these things."

"Deputy Archbishop? Then you must be no ordinary nobleman. Even among earls, you would be considered a high-ranking earl."

Monroe added a comment from the side, but it sounded more like it was directed at Lee En.

Caesar just smiled, putting the sandwich in his mouth while coughing, almost spraying breadcrumbs into his teacup.

Seeing his sickly appearance, Li En didn't ask any further questions. "Do you come here often?"

"Often," Caesar did not deny it. "As I said before, I am very interested in some of the books here, so I come to borrow them regularly."

Li En then asked, "If I said I wanted you to ask my mentor if he remembered a silver candlestick, would you be willing to inquire for me?"

"Inquiries about the silver candlesticks?" Caesar thought for a moment, then gave an affirmative answer, "Sure, but may I also make a request?"

Li En glanced at the countdown timer for copying the labels, nodded, and said, "Tell me your requirements first."

Caesar pointed to another line of text on the menu, "I'd like to try this cucumber sandwich, but I didn't bring any money with me today. Could you buy me one?"

Monroe's face darkened. "You bastard..."

"Of course," Li En said, then greeted the waiter. "Could you please bring this gentleman a cucumber sandwich? Thank you."

"Also, get a small bottle of evaporated milk; this coffee is too bitter."
