Soul Returns to Hong Kong: From Tailor Shop to Richest Woman
Chapter 57: After finishing the script, first lock the copyright.
Lin Ying took the test papers that Lin Yue brought and looked at them one by one.
The handwriting on the paper isn't very neat, and the mistakes are mostly in word problems that require a slight twist, as well as in long English sentences with complex tenses. Her foundation is weak; she can't solve problems with even slight variations.
"Yueyue." Lin Ying put down the test paper and looked at her younger sister.
"Sister." Lin Yue sat up nervously.
Lin Ying used to think that this little girl was the only child of her uncle and aunt, and must be spoiled at home, so she couldn't endure any hardship.
But my uncle really took the saying "raise girls like boys" to heart, and he really did teach her that way.
So Lin Ying asked her, "You didn't do well on this exam, do you feel wronged?"
Lin Yue shook her head and said, "I'm not wronged. It's just that I played too much and didn't ask the teacher when I didn't understand what was being taught."
Lin Ying asked, "So, do you still want to open a barbershop ten times bigger and be its boss in the future?"
Lin Yue lowered her head: "But I can't even do math problems right. I'll definitely lose money if I hire someone to calculate my finances in the future."
Lin Ying found it amusing; this little girl seemed to know her quite well.
"It's never too late to know where you went wrong." Lin Ying took a notebook out of the drawer and quickly made a schedule. "From now on, every morning from nine to eleven, you and Aqian will do practice problems together. I'll circle the problems for you, and you must ask me if you don't understand any. In the afternoon, I'll go back to my room to write my things, and you two will go outside to correct your mistakes and memorize vocabulary. No one can watch TV until you finish today."
Hearing this, Lin Qian sighed.
Lin Yue took out a pencil and eraser and placed them on the table: "Big sister, which test paper should I start with?"
In the days that followed, the fifteenth floor of our house turned into a mini tutoring center.
Lin Ying discovered that Lin Yue was not spoiled at all and was very obedient.
One day, Lin Yue ran to the study door with her exercise book and asked, "Sister, why do we have to do multiplication and division before addition and subtraction in this problem? Can't we do it the other way around?"
Lin Ying stopped writing the final chapter of "Magic Academy" and explained the logic to her: "Because the rules are like this, just like doing business. You have to calculate the cost of goods first, and then calculate how much money you make in total."
Lin Yue thought for a moment and said, "I understand, sister. I'll go recalculate it!"
Lin Qian was sitting at the dining table, secretly reading his newly bought comic book. But seeing his cousin working so hard, he felt a sense of crisis.
He remembered what everyone was talking about buying a house that night. He didn't have a proper house, and he would have to rely on his older sister to buy a big house in the future. Even Yueyue was working so hard now, and if he was outdone, he would lose face in the Lin family.
So Lin Qian picked up the math test paper and started working on it.
The old lady brought out some cut fruit and, seeing that the two of them were working hard, said to Lin Ying, "You really have a way with them; they're very well-behaved now."
Mong Kok isn't far from Taikoo Shing; it only takes about half an hour by car and minibus.
Whenever the barbershop is a little less busy, my uncle and aunt will come knocking on the door with a big bag of things.
Sometimes I buy freshly roasted goose, sometimes seafood, or my aunt's homemade pork tripe soup.
As soon as Lin Yaoying came in, she would shout loudly, "Big sister, Ah Ying, come and eat while it's hot!"
Everyone sat around a table in the spacious restaurant to eat, and the table was full of home-style dishes.
Every time Deng Hui came, she would look at Lin Yue's error notebook and see that there were many places marked with red pen, and the handwriting was much neater than before.
"Yueyue, are you tired?" Deng Hui touched her daughter with heartache.
Lin Yue shook her head: "I'm not tired. My mom and older sister praised my translation today for being accurate."
Lin Yaoying laughed happily from the side: "Good, Lao Dou's daughter has backbone. Big sister, Aying, Ahui and I feel very at ease in the shop. With Aying teaching her, she has finally gotten on the right track."
As Lin Ying ate her meal, she couldn't help but admire the Lin family. No matter who was ahead, they would always turn back and lend a hand to those behind. Life was tough for those at the bottom of society in Hong Kong, but the family's unity and mutual support were their strongest armor.
Days pass by.
Lin Ying has been very busy for the past two weeks. During the day, she takes care of her two children's homework, and at night she locks herself in her study to write her scripts on magic and talismans.
One evening...
Lin Ying finally finished writing the last word, completing the first part of the script's grand finale, leaving a cliffhanger.
She felt a slight ache in her wrists, so she tidied up the hundreds of pages of manuscript paper on the table. The manuscript paper contained the world-building framework, character biographies, conflicts in the early, middle, and late stages of the story, and the main text of the script.
This time, Lin Ying didn't just write a few creative ideas on blank paper. She brought over a thick kraft paper bag, put all the manuscript paper inside, and sealed it.
But she didn't immediately go to get the living room phone to call Boss Peng.
The next morning, Lin Ying changed into a clean set of clothes and went to ring the doorbell of Attorney Shen's house across the street.
Attorney Shen happened to be on vacation at home and opened the door wearing his own clothes. He was a little surprised to see Lin Ying carrying a thick paper bag.
"Have you finished writing?" Attorney Shen invited her in to sit down.
"The first draft is finished." Lin Ying walked in and placed the paper bag on his coffee table. "Attorney Shen, the eight thousand yuan consulting fee should come in handy now."
Attorney Shen pulled up a chair and sat down, asking, "Tell me, what do you want me to do?"
"There are two things," Lin Ying said, settling into her seat and outlining her plan. "First, this morning, I need to register and seal the copyright for all the core outlines and main text of this script. I need your law firm to issue a memorandum of copyright time verification."
"Okay, no problem." Attorney Shen nodded. "If there are any disputes in the future, this will be your trump card in court."
"Second," Lin Ying looked at him, "help me draft a confidentiality agreement, including accountability clauses and a confirmation of script receipt. I need to send this to the investors tomorrow, and they must sign it before reviewing it. This is to confirm that they received the original manuscript and cannot make any changes or leak it to others without my consent."
"You're very professional." Attorney Shen stood up to get his briefcase. "I've already prepared templates for the documents; all you need to do is fill in your name. I'll personally deliver them to you before 2 PM this afternoon."
"Thank you then."
It was 2:30 in the afternoon.
Lin Ying sat on the sofa at home, looking at the two documents with the law firm's red seal on the coffee table. She breathed a sigh of relief. With these two documents protecting her, the script of more than a hundred pages was truly hers, and no one else could take this treasure away from her.
Then she picked up the phone and dialed a number.
The phone was answered after three rings.
"Hello, is this Boss Peng?" Lin Ying said politely, "This is Lin Ying. I've finished the first draft of the complete script for 'The Magic Academy Exchange Student,' and I've also completed the copyright registration."
