Chapter 73 Childish
He Xu finally raised his head, glanced at him, and smiled slightly: "Sure, what do you want to hear?"
That smile carried a deliberate, affected gentleness.
Shen Yiheng felt a chill run down his spine from that expression: "Just speak normally."
"I'm perfectly normal." He Xu stuffed the last bite of rice into his mouth, picked up the soup bowl and took a sip. "Why are you so concerned about me today? Are you afraid I'll yell at someone and make them cry again?"
"I just wanted to ask how you are today."
"Now that you've finished asking, I'm fine."
After He Xu finished speaking, he picked up his plate, stood up, and turned to walk towards the recycling area.
Shen Yiheng sat there, watching He Xu's back, and his lips twitched.
He stood up, took a few quick steps to catch up with He Xu, and said from behind, "Can you please stop doing this?"
"What did I do wrong?" He Xu asked without turning his head, his voice flat. "I'm perfectly fine, aren't I? You wanted me to be gentle, and I was gentle; you wanted me not to swear, and I didn't; you wanted me to speak properly, and wasn't my speech good just now?"
He put the plate on the recycling rack and turned to look at Shen Yiheng.
Its expression was as innocent as a cat that had just wrecked the house but was pretending nothing had happened.
Shen Yiheng stared at him for several seconds, took a deep breath, and then exhaled: "Are you just being stubborn with me?"
"I wasn't acting out of spite."
"You have."
"I didn't." He Xu's voice remained calm, but the "believe it or not" tone was no longer concealed.
"I'll do whatever the producer says, what's there to be angry about?"
Shen Yiheng's brow twitched slightly: "Then could you please stop trying to brush me off with 'it's alright,' 'it's pretty good,' or 'not bad'?"
He Xu tilted his head, his expression serious: "Then I'll change the wording—'okay' or 'pretty good'? Or 'so-so' or 'passable'? You pick one, and I'll go with the one you like."
Shen Yiheng took a deep breath: "He Xu."
"Um?"
"Can you please stop being so sarcastic?"
"Me, being sarcastic?" He Xu looked innocent, as if he had been wronged. "Isn't this just me trying to cooperate with you? You said I should be gentle, but I've been so gentle today that I almost made myself vomit."
He paused, tilting his head to look at Shen Yiheng: "Do you think I did the right thing?"
Shen Yiheng was speechless, choked by his expression.
He knew He Xu was angry.
Moreover, this kind of anger is a million times harder to deal with than slamming doors, cursing, or yelling.
"He Xu." Shen Yiheng took half a step forward and lowered his voice, "If you have a problem with me, just say so, don't do this."
I have no problem with you.
"You have."
"I didn't," He Xu finally raised his voice a little. "It's you who has a problem with me."
"What did I do wrong to you?"
He Xu's lips curled up slightly, but there was no smile in his eyes.
"You have a problem with me. You say I'm too harsh with my words, I'll change. You say I should be gentler, I'll be gentler."
"What else do you want from me? Do you want me to write down a list and follow it?"
"you--"
"Don't worry, I signed a contract, I won't run away." He Xu interrupted him, took a half step back, put his hands in his pockets, and adopted a casual posture.
"I'll do whatever you say, I'll never curse anyone, and I'll never make the players cry—PD, is there anything else you need? I'll write it down right now."
Shen Yiheng stared at him, her chest heaving twice.
"Can't you be reasonable?"
"Where have I been unreasonable? I'm perfectly reasonable now—I wouldn't swear even if you asked me to. Want to try?"
"He Xu!"
The two stood facing each other, their voices louder and more childish than each other's.
Several contestants were eating at tables in the cafeteria when they heard the commotion. They all turned around, their chopsticks hanging in mid-air, their expressions changing from shock to anticipation.
Some people even secretly reached into their pockets to touch their hidden phones, but then, remembering that there were staff members around, they sheepishly withdrew their hands.
"You—" Shen Yiheng gritted his teeth, his voice lowered, but the anger in his tone remained undiminished, "Do you know that the way you are right now makes you look exactly like—that kind of—"
Which one?
"Those wronged children!!" Shen Yiheng finally shouted these words out.
He Xu remained silent for a moment.
"You're the kid," he said matter-of-factly. "When I yelled at you in the practice room six years ago, you were crying with snot bubbles coming out of your nose."
"I don't have any snot bubbles!!"
"You have."
"I don't!!"
"You have one, I saw it with my own eyes, a snot bubble, that big." He Xu gestured.
A suppressed laugh came from the side.
They both turned their heads at the same time.
Han Yu stood at the entrance of the cafeteria, holding a plastic bag in his hand, leaning against the door frame with an expression that seemed to say, "Didn't I just happen to be here?"
He glanced at Shen Yiheng, then at He Xu, and a slow smile crept onto his lips.
"What are you all doing...?" Han Yu strolled in slowly, a plastic bag dangling beside him. "Arguing? Or is this some kind of elementary school debate?"
Shen Yiheng's ears turned red.
He Xu also calmed down and said coldly, "...Why are you here?"
Han Yu walked up to them and shoved a plastic bag into He Xu's chest: "The doctor said your ear drops have a new formula. The old one had side effects, so he told you to stop using it."
He Xu glanced down at the medicine box in the plastic bag but didn't reply.
Han Yu's gaze swept back and forth between the two of them, his tone remaining indifferent: "Did I disturb you?"
"No," Shen Yiheng said.
"It's nothing," He Xu said.
The two of them opened their mouths almost simultaneously, and then closed them at the same time.
Han Yu's lips curled up even higher: "If you two went to perform crosstalk, you'd definitely be a hit."
He Xu tucked the plastic bag under his arm and turned to leave: "Thanks, the medicine has been delivered, you can go now."
Han Yu raised an eyebrow: "Use it and then throw it away?"
"I didn't ask you to deliver it," He Xu said calmly. "If you insist on coming, deliver it and leave. Don't keep me from getting to work."
Han Yu looked at him and smiled: "Okay, I'm leaving. But don't forget to take your medicine on time. The doctor said twice a day, and lie on your side for five minutes after each dose—don't forget again."
"Okay, okay." He Xu waved his hand, turned and walked towards the cafeteria entrance. After taking two steps, he stopped, turned back to look at Han Yu, and said, "Where did you park your car? Don't park it in front of the entrance, it'll get photographed."
"Underground parking garage."
"Then you'd better leave quickly, or you'll get mobbed by the fans."
Han Yu looked at him, the smile on his lips unwavering: "You're the one who should mind your own business."
He Xu ignored him and turned to leave the cafeteria.
Han Yu stood there, watching He Xu's figure disappear around the corner of the corridor, then slowly turned his head to look at Shen Yiheng.
Shen Yiheng was still standing next to the cafeteria table, his hands in his pockets, his expression complicated, and his lips pressed into a thin line.
Han Yu looked at him, remained silent for two seconds, and then asked, "Why did you provoke him?"
