First, then, love.
48. "Wow, love at first sight!"
At 9:00 AM, the Municipal Special Police Brigade.
He Zheng pushed open the door to the brigade's meeting room.
The conference room was packed with over twenty special police officers, all dressed in matching black training uniforms.
Upon seeing him enter, everyone immediately stopped whispering, straightened their backs, and the atmosphere instantly became serious.
He Zheng walked to the head seat of the long table at the front and sat down.
He was also wearing a full black training uniform today, with a tactical belt around his waist. He had broad shoulders and long legs, and exuded a cold and stern aura.
"Meeting," he said in a low, concise voice.
Sitting to his left was the deputy captain, Lao Li, who was holding a notebook and was about to report on the training plan for the second half of the year.
Her gaze inadvertently swept over He Zheng's collar.
Old Li paused for a moment, then narrowed his eyes.
A thin, long, yellow and white animal hair was stuck to the collar of the pure black training uniform in a very conspicuous way.
It's definitely not police dog hair. Police dog hair is short and stiff, while this hair is thin, soft, and curly.
Moving a little closer, Old Li's nose twitched twice.
He sniffed the air carefully, like a police dog.
A distinctive, high-end floral fragrance wafted into He Zheng's nostrils from his collar, a stark contrast to the pervasive stench of sweat and gunpowder in the SWAT team.
In Old Li's mind, the image of his pampered sister-in-law, sitting amidst a pile of suitcases and directing the team leader to hang pink lace curtains, flashed through his mind yesterday during the move.
His lips curled up uncontrollably as he desperately tried to suppress his laughter, his shoulders shaking from the effort.
He Zheng was looking down at the documents in his hand when he noticed the commotion beside him. He turned his head and coldly swept his dark eyes over.
"Are you out of your mind? Read the plan." He said impatiently.
Old Li quickly cleared his throat, "Ahem, yes, Captain, the first item in the second half of the year's training plan..."
*
On the other side, in the magnificent garden.
The doorbell rang no sooner than He Zheng left.
Shu Yao had just changed into her outfit for the day – a well-tailored white suit skirt and five-centimeter stilettos – and was getting ready to go to work at the art center.
"Ding-dong— Ding-dong—" The doorbell rang impatiently.
She went over and opened the door.
Outside the door, Qiaoqiao was wearing an extravagant sequined jacket and carrying a huge transparent cat bag.
"Surprise! Congratulations on moving to your new home!" Qiao Qiao's loud voice echoed in the hallway.
Shu Yao rolled her eyes and stepped aside.
"Keep your voice down. The soundproofing is good, but it's still embarrassing to shout in the hallway."
Qiaoqiao squeezed through the door and changed into slippers.
Inside the transparent cat carrier in her hand was a large tortoiseshell cat, half black and half yellow on its face, making it very distinctive. It also seemed to have a bad temper, scratching at the plastic shell with its paws in frustration.
"Why did you bring it here? I have a dog at home, what if they fight?" Shu Yao frowned as she looked at the tortoiseshell.
"It's on my way. I'm taking 'Prince' to the pet store for a bath later, and I just happen to be passing by, so I thought I'd drop by and check it out."
Qiaoqiao placed the cat carrier on the floor in the entryway and skillfully unzipped it.
"Go, Your Highness, and inspect the new territory."
Prince, a two-year-old male cat, has not yet been spayed/neutered.
It slowly stepped out of the cat carrier and shook its fur.
At this moment, the princess was sprawled out on the living room sofa, taking a nap.
Hearing the noise, the princess's ears twitched, and she opened her eyes.
The two cats' gazes met in the air.
The prince's eyes lit up, and he immediately walked gracefully toward the sofa.
The princess didn't dodge, or even breathe on it. Instead, she rolled over, revealing her white belly, and let out a sweet "meow" sound.
The two cats quickly huddled together and sniffed each other.
Then, the prince began to circle around the princess, his tail standing upright like an antenna, making a low gurgling sound.
The princess did not resist; instead, she nuzzled the prince's neck with her head.
Shu Yao and Qiao Qiao stood in the entryway, watching this scene.
"Oh, love at first sight, huh?" Qiao Qiao whistled. "Isn't your princess usually quite arrogant? Why is she being so proactive with my crown prince?"
Shu Yao also found it strange. "Maybe they're all cats, so they have something in common. The God of War is so big, it's afraid of it."
"War God? The German Shepherd from yesterday's video? Where is it?" Qiao Qiao looked around, her face full of curiosity.
"The balcony is locked. He Zheng said he wasn't home and was worried the dog might hurt someone, so he locked it in the doghouse outside when he left," Shu Yao pointed to the French windows.
Qiaoqiao walked to the balcony and looked out through the glass.
The God of War was sunbathing on the anti-corrosion wooden floor of the balcony. When it saw the stranger, it raised its head and looked over with cold amber eyes. It didn't make a sound, but the invisible sense of oppression was still there.
Qiaoqiao shrank her neck. "This dog looks really fierce. No wonder it's a retired military dog. Only you can tame He Zheng and even control the dog."
"Alright, stop joking around, I'm in a hurry to get to work." Shu Yao picked up her bag from the sofa.
Qiaoqiao glanced at the two cats licking each other's fur on the sofa.
"Okay, I'll take the prince to take a bath." She walked over, preparing to scoop the prince into the cat carrier.
Unexpectedly, the prince refused to leave, his four paws gripping the leather cushions of the sofa tightly, and he growled threateningly at Qiao Qiao.
The princess joined in the fun, wrapping her paws around the prince's neck. The two cats entwined together, as if they were going through a life-or-death separation.
"Hey! You ingrate! You've forgotten your mother now that you have a wife!" Qiao Qiao laughed angrily, forcibly pried the prince open, stuffed him into the cat carrier, and zipped it up.
The prince paced anxiously in the cat carrier, meowing at the princess.
The princess jumped off the sofa, followed the cat carrier to the entryway, and looked on longingly.
Shu Yao shook her head helplessly as she watched this dramatic scene.
