I just wrote a love poem, how did that make me so powerful?

Chapter 71 The Courtesan's Appointment

The person who arrived was the round-faced girl next to Gu Zhiyi; she had obviously been waiting for a while.

Upon seeing Xiao Mingyuan and Xu Qing emerge, he quickly stepped forward and curtsied.

"Young Master Xiao, Young Master Xu, my young lady invites you both to come to Chunhong Courtyard for a chat."

Li Yan burst out laughing and covered his mouth with his fan, teasingly saying...

"Tsk tsk tsk, Young Master Xiao and Young Master Xu have so much influence. Even Miss Zhiyi has sent people to block people at the academy gate. We outsiders probably won't even be able to get in."

Xiao Mingyuan touched his double chin, looked at Li Yan with some difficulty, then looked at Xu Qing, and Xu Qing nodded slightly.

Xiao Mingyuan then turned to Li Yan and said, "Let's go together then, it'll be more fun with more people."

The maid in green hesitated for a moment, but did not stop her.

"The young lady didn't say she was only inviting two people, so it's perfectly fine for several gentlemen to come along as well."

"Then thank you for leading the way, sister." Xu Qing cupped her hands in greeting.

"Please..." the maid smiled slightly.

The group then headed towards Chunhong Courtyard in a grand procession.

Upon arriving at Gu Zhiyi's small building, a maid in green led them to their seats, poured tea, and then said:

"My young lady is going to pick up an important person now, she will be here shortly."

Xu Qing's hand holding the teacup trembled slightly.

The only person Gu Zhiyi would personally pick up is probably that one.

Before he could think it through, footsteps echoed up the stairs.

The curtain was lifted, and Gu Zhiyi came in first, followed by two people.

An old man and a young boy.

The old man was in his early fifties, not very tall, and wore a faded linen robe with the sleeves rolled up to his forearms, revealing a pair of lean and strong wrists.

His hair was gray, casually tied back, with a few unruly strands falling beside his ears.

He had a short, grizzled beard on his chin, which wasn't neatly trimmed.

It displays an unconventional and casual style.

His eyelids were drooping, but his eyes were dark and bright, as if they might flash with a sharp light at any moment.

Behind him followed a boy of about fifteen or sixteen, carrying a bulging medicine box on his back, wearing a slightly worn blue cotton jacket, with delicate features and an air of indifference to worldly affairs.

Gu Zhiyi smiled slightly at everyone, "Dr. Li has arrived, everyone please say hello."

The group quickly stood up to greet them.

Li Yedao waved his hand casually, "Why bother with all this formalities? Where's that sick girl? I'll go check on her first."

Upon hearing this, Xu Qing immediately put down his teacup and quickly stepped forward to lead the way.

"Dr. Li, this way please. Yao Yao has been staying at Zhuangyuanlou for the past few days, and I have already had a table of food and wine prepared to welcome you back."

Li Yedao looked him up and down, pausing for a moment on his handsome face with its straight nose.

"Since you're so interested, he must be her fiancé, right? He does look quite respectable."

He paused slightly, then added a sentence.

"Zhiyi came to invite me for your sake, I don't know what you're capable of."

As he spoke, he took a step and walked away. After a couple of steps, he looked back at the crowd.

"Let's go, what are you standing there for? Let's go see the patient first."

Li Yedao turned and walked out with the boy.

Xu Qing quickly followed, and the others followed closely behind.

The group left Chunhong Courtyard and headed towards Zhuangyuan Tower.

……

Song Yao had already arrived at the private room of Zhuangyuanlou ahead of time.

Xiao Lanzhi and Su Man were by her side. On the table were some of the special snacks from Zhuangyuanlou Restaurant, as well as a pot of freshly brewed hot tea.

After entering the room, Li Yedao did not exchange pleasantries. He went straight to Song Yao, first examining her complexion, and then asked her to extend her hand to take her pulse.

He placed three fingers on Song Yao's wrist, closed his eyes, and remained silent for a while.

He switched hands once, pressed on Song Yao's hand again, looked at her fingernails, and then let go.

He stood up, paced around the room a couple of times, and then spoke.

"It's not a big problem. You guys go eat first. I want to talk to Xu about something else. He just said something that I'm interested in."

Gu Zhiyi realized that Li Yedao was deliberately trying to get rid of the others, so she got up, took Song Yao's hand, and walked out, saying something as she did so.

"Yaoyao, let's go get something to eat first."

Li Yan and Su Man exchanged a glance and tactfully withdrew.

Xiao Mingyuan wanted to stay and listen, but Gu Zhiyi glanced at him.

He chuckled dryly and followed him out.

Only Xu Qing, Li Yedao, and the boy remained in the room.

After the door closed, Li Yedao didn't rush to speak. Instead, he glanced at Xu Qing again before walking to the window and speaking to him with his back to him:

"The root cause of Miss Song's health problems lies in her chronic illnesses. Years of malnutrition and excessive labor have depleted her health, coupled with years of cold-related ailments and spleen and stomach imbalances."

He spoke, his tone becoming more somber, and then paused.

"It's not an easy disease to cure."

Xu Qing nodded. "This junior understands."

Li Yedao turned around, his gaze lingering on Xu Qing's face for a moment. "You seem to have already guessed that the ending won't be good."

Xu Qing shook her head firmly, "No, I believe you can definitely cure her."

Li Yedao was taken aback by his answer and smiled wryly.

"Are you trying to sweet-talk me? I'm not even sure myself. Her illness isn't just difficult to treat..."

It's about conditioning.

The foundation is too weak to withstand strong medicine. Even though life is better now, and the food and clothing have improved, there are still worries on my mind, and these worries harm my health.

Unless... we go to a place free from worries, where we can receive treatment and recuperate at the same time, there might be some hope, like coming back to the medicine hut with me.

Xu Qing suddenly stood up. "Then let's ask the miracle doctor..."

Before he could finish speaking, Li Yedao waved his hand, interrupting him.

"No, no, even if we go back to my medicine hut, there aren't enough precious medicinal herbs. For her kind of deficiency, she needs to use old ginseng every day. Although I don't lack medicinal herbs, I don't have enough."

After listening, Xu Qing pondered for a moment, then raised his head and asked, "What if we have enough money? Could Doctor Li go to the capital to treat Yao Yao? It has a vast collection of medicinal herbs, so there should be no shortage of them."

Li Yedao looked him up and down again, his tone carrying a hint of disbelief.

"You've got quite the nerve, kid. Do you even know what 'enough' means?"

Xu Qing answered frankly, "For example, how about ten thousand taels a year?"

"Ten thousand taels a year? What are you laughing at...?"

Li Yedao paused for a moment, stared at Xu Qing, and lowered his voice.

"What did you say? One...ten thousand taels a year?" He looked Xu Qing up and down again, as if he hadn't seen him clearly before. "I underestimated you."

Li Yedao's tone became more serious.

"Ten thousand taels a year isn't that much, but it's enough to prepare all the necessary medicines. However..." He changed the subject, "Even so, I can't guarantee a cure. There's another matter..."

Xu Qing cupped his hands in a respectful gesture, "Please speak freely, Divine Doctor."
