Newlyweds are in the throes of passion, but Professor He's little darling wants a separation.
Chapter 69 Betting Agreement
"Grandma, where is He Tingchu..." Wen Xi asked, standing by the dining table, without sitting down.
"Oh, Tingchu is in the study... Your dad wants to talk to him about something."
"Then I'll go call him for breakfast." Wen Xi smiled faintly and jogged to press the elevator button.
"See? The young couple has a great relationship... I guess I had good taste," Grandpa He remarked.
"That's right." Grandma He's eyes understood everything. She had been through it all, so it seemed to be a done deal.
When Sister Cai reported to her before, she was worried for several nights. She was really worried that the two of them might have some hidden illness, which is why she was so anxious. But as long as the result is good, that's all that matters.
"Big brother and sister-in-law are so inseparable! Grandpa, when are you going to find me a partner too?" He Tingbai joked.
"In a few years, Grandpa will take care of it," the old man assured, patting his chest.
As soon as the elevator doors opened, He Tingyou, with an unlit cigarette dangling from his lips, saw Wen Xi and quickly pulled the cigarette out of his mouth and stuffed it into his pocket.
Wen Xi suddenly didn't want to take the elevator anymore and started to climb the stairs.
He Tingyou quickly grabbed her wrist and pulled her into the elevator, which then slammed shut.
"He Tingyou, let go of me." Wen Xi irritably shook off his hand.
Taking advantage of his height, the man noticed the bright red marks on her neck without needing to look closely.
"Wen Xi, you really are like my older brother..." He Tingyou's throat felt like it was blocked by a wet sponge. When the naked truth was laid out in front of him, it was a heart-wrenching pain.
"Tell me this isn't true." He Tingyou's eyes were bloodshot as he tightened his grip on her wrist, showing no intention of letting go.
"He Tingyou, I'm your sister-in-law. What, do you want me to call for help right now?" Wen Xi threatened in a low voice.
She and He Tingyou were the only ones in the elevator. She didn't want the He family to see them. What would they think if they did?
The He family cares about their reputation, and so does the Wen family.
The elevator doors opened, and Wen Xi was finally able to breathe again. He Tingyou staggered half a step and weakly let go of her hand.
Wen Xi fled the elevator as if her life depended on it. She didn't want to stay in the He family's house for even a minute longer. All she wanted was to see He Tingchu and then go back with him to the home that belonged to her and He Tingchu. Their home wasn't in the old mansion.
The door to the study on the third floor was ajar, and a loud argument could be heard coming from inside.
"He Tingchu, why are you taking your anger out on me? It's all because you're spineless. You've been married to Qiqi for three months, and you still haven't gained her trust. If Qiqi is committed to you, why doesn't your father-in-law give you the position of executive director...? And if you and Qiqi have a child..."
"President He, as I said before, don't try anything funny with Kant..."
"Tingchu, you've really misunderstood your father this time. He meant well, and we sincerely hope that you and Qiqi can be together." Bai Xue quickly advised.
"Mom, how could you drug Qiqi? Mom, how could you do this..."
"I...it was Mom's fault. Mom knew you two hadn't consummated your marriage yet, and I got impatient...it's all Mom's fault..."
"Don't be unaware of what underhanded tricks you're up to behind the scenes. Was it you who orchestrated this revival of Kangde? Yufeng and Kangde have a betting agreement... Kangde must be incorporated into Yufeng's territory... Don't forget, your surname is He, and you bear the honor and disgrace of Yufeng on your shoulders..." He Youjun clearly lowered his voice.
He Tingchu's eyes were filled with hostility. He slammed the ashtray on the desk to the ground, the sound of shattering glass echoing on the floor.
"Enough!" He Tingchu roared, sending shards of glass flying.
The study door opened at some point, and Wen Xi stood there blankly, his facial muscles trembling uncontrollably with fear.
"He Tingchu... let's go home, okay?" She was clearly terrified.
Sharp shards of glass grazed her calf, and traces of blood seeped from her fair skin, but she was completely unaware.
A performance-based agreement?
She was completely unaware of this.
"Qiqi... are you alright?" Bai Xue, pale-faced, rushed over.
Following Bai Xue's anxious voice, He Tingchu realized that Wen Xi had appeared at the door at some point. A sharp, stabbing pain shot through his heart.
"I'm sorry, baby, let's go home." He strode over in a panic, his arm going straight through her knees, pulling her into his arms and quickly carrying her downstairs.
The two figures appeared in the living room, and Grandma He, with her sharp eyes, noticed the bloodstains on Wen Xi's calf.
"What happened? How did Qiqi get hurt? Aunt Wang, quickly go get the first-aid kit."
He Tingyou glanced over and saw He Tingchu carrying Wen Xi in his arms, his eyes dark as he got into the Maybach parked at the door. He felt a tightness in his chest.
"Tingchu, treating the wound is the priority." Grandma He was worried and followed along with the help of the maid.
"He Tingchu, let's go home, let's go home." Wen Xi's slender white fingers clenched his palms, his arms tightly wrapped around his neck, his body trembling slightly in his arms.
All she wanted to do was escape from the He family; He Tingchu's mind was in complete turmoil.
"Wang Ma, help Grandma back," He Tingchu ordered sternly before getting into the car.
"What on earth happened... Qiqi..." Grandma He was extremely anxious.
"Grandma, I'll explain to you later, don't worry." After saying that, He Tingchu put Wen Xi in the passenger seat, got into the driver's seat, and stepped on the gas.
The Maybach's taillights disappeared behind the villa.
Wen Xi's thoughts were in complete disarray. What she had overheard at the study door was too shocking for her to process right now.
My knuckles were white as I gripped the seatbelt, and my heart clenched with emotion.
"Wen Qiqi, don't think nonsense. Kangde will be fine. I'll explain it to you slowly when we get back." He Tingchu held the steering wheel with one hand and gripped her hand tightly with his right. Her palm was ice cold.
Her fair face was completely bloodless.
Wen Xi lowered his eyes, remaining silent, as blood seeped slowly from his calves.
He parked the car next to a pharmacy on the side of the road and gently ruffled her fluffy hair with his palm.
"Wait for me, I'm going to buy medicine." He Tingchu got out of the car and headed straight for the pharmacy by the roadside.
Taking advantage of the brief moment, Wen Xi dialed Xie Chunxi's number, but the call went unanswered.
She edited a message and sent it to Wen Shiyuan.
[Dad, Kangde and Yufeng signed a performance-based agreement? Why didn't you ask my opinion...]
A few minutes later, He Tingchu came out carrying a bag of medicine. He opened the passenger door, lifted her skirt, and grabbed her porcelain-white leg.
"What..." Wen Xi was in a bad mood. Right now, she hated everyone with the surname He, including He Tingchu.
None of the people surnamed He are good; they all have ulterior motives towards Kant. They all covet Kant. Frustrated, she kicked him twice, kicking him hard.
"I'll put some medicine on you; you're injured." He Tingchu unbuckled her seatbelt and pulled her onto his lap without a second thought.
It was only then that Wen Xi noticed the wound on his calf.
He used a cotton swab dipped in iodine to gently wipe away the bloodstains from the wound, his movements very light, afraid of touching her delicate skin and causing her any pain.
For Wen Xi, who was studying medicine, this wound was nothing.
She was very mischievous as a child, often playing around with the boys in her class, which gave her a strong, resilient physique.
Besides, she has practiced Taekwondo for many years and has suffered quite a few injuries over the years.
"I'm sorry..." the man said hoarsely, his brow furrowed.
"What's this about the betting agreement?" Wen Xi asked, his face grim.
"If Kangde cannot achieve a three-fold increase in profits within a year, it will be automatically merged into Yufeng Group," He Tingchu readily agreed.
"Then what about our engagement?"
"Assuming Kant succeeds in his bet, and you give birth to our child, I will take over Kant as your husband. The He family never does anything that loses money," the man said slyly.
Looking up at her, I saw a clear and sincere expression in her eyes.
