Apocalypse: Zombie Elimination Expert

Chapter 68: Preparations Before Departure!

At the doorway, Li Wenwu lay motionless on the ground, still unconscious.

Zhang Shanhai stared at him blankly...

Recalling everything she witnessed last night, her complex expression, initially one of grievance, guilt, and shame, gradually turned ferocious, until she was on the verge of losing control with anger.

"This man deserves to die."

Chen Tuo looked at Zhang Shanhai, who was trembling with anger.

"I'll give you three minutes to handle this, is that enough?"

"enough!"

Zhang Shanhai nodded, grabbed Li Wenwu from the ground and dragged him into the house, also taking the machete that the painted-face gang had placed on the shoe cabinet.

The dragging and bumping woke Li Wenwu up.

Looking at the surrounding scene and the familiar face above my head, I subconsciously shouted out.

"Brother Hai?"

boom--

Zhang Shanhai smashed the hilt of his knife into the bridge of his nose, causing blood to gush out immediately.

"Ah! Hai-ge, what are you doing? I..."

Li Wenwu wanted to say something more, but out of the corner of his eye he saw Chen Tuo standing at the door and the red-haired corpse lying not far away, and he froze.

He remembered, he understood, and he panicked completely.

"No, Hai-ge, it's all a misunderstanding, it's not what you think..."

Bang bang bang!

After three consecutive blows, Li Wenwu's face was covered in blood, and one of his front teeth was knocked out.

The excruciating pain made him clutch his hand, unable to utter another word...

Zhang Shanhai's feelings towards Li Wenwu could no longer be described as utter disappointment; they had evolved into deep-seated hatred, and he showed no mercy in his attacks.

He was still dragging it, as if he were leading Li Wenwu in a search for something.

Chen Tuo leaned against the door and said, "If you're looking for those two women, they're in the second bedroom to your left, but they're already dead."

Zhang Shanhai was stunned, and even his dragging motion froze.

He didn't respond, but his expression became even more gloomy, and the hand gripping Li Wenwu's hair tightened, the bulging veins clearly visible, as he walked towards the second bedroom.

Shu Yao and Jiang Xin, who were sorting through their spoils, heard the noise and poked their heads out.

Shu Yao glanced at it twice before getting back to work, while Jiang Xin, filled with curiosity, followed her into the second bedroom.

Chen Tuo didn't follow him inside. He turned and went to the corridor, leaned against the wall, slowly took out a cigarette from his bag, knocked one out, and put it in his mouth...

I found this cigarette at the house of the blond zombie. I've had it with me for over a week, and even when I'm having a really bad time, I haven't thought about smoking one.

But now, Chen Tuo wants to smoke one.

Perhaps it was because he had dealt with those scumbags with the painted face before leaving, and was about to embark on a new journey, that he was in a good mood.

Or perhaps it was seeing the two women's corpses, plus the eerie zombie standing on the rooftop, that added to the pressure.

In short, I just wanted to find an outlet...

"ah--"

"Brother Hai, you can't do this! I saved Auntie before! You can't... Ah!!!"

Heart-wrenching screams came from the inner room.

Chen Tuo ignored him, flicking the lighter with his fingers. As the flame flickered, the tobacco hissed and emitted a cloud of white smoke.

"Cough cough..."

"Haven't touched it in years, it's really got some energy."

Despite the discomfort in my throat, the effect was surprisingly good, as if some of my worries were being expelled with the smoke.

Li Wenwu's screams continued.

Zhang Shanhai seemed to be intentionally keeping him sober in order to atone for his sins.

Time passed second by second.

Two minutes later, Li Wenwu's voice abruptly stopped.

When he came out again, Zhang Shanhai had regained his composure. Apart from some bloodstains on his body, he was no different from when he went in.

"Want one?"

Chen Tuo offered him a cigarette.

Zhang Shanhai hesitated for a moment, but still accepted it.

"Cough cough..."

Unsurprisingly, he choked.

Chen Tuo smiled.

Zhang Shanhai also smiled.

But while he was laughing, he started crying again.

"Old Zhang, how come I never realized you were such a crybaby before?"

Zhang Shanhai wiped away his tears, "Those two women are dead. They were tortured to death by Li Wenwu. I saw it with my own eyes. If I hadn't believed his lies the night before, perhaps..."

Chen Tuo said calmly, "Even if you hadn't been tricked into coming, Li Wenwu would have come anyway, and they still couldn't escape this fate."

Zhang Shanhai was taken aback, then took a big sip.

"I made Li Wenwu's body kneel before them, maintaining a posture of repentance until it decomposed."

"Yes, you should. How was the lesson learned this time?"

Zhang Shanhai's expression was complicated. "It's too big. I'm afraid it will haunt me for the rest of my life."

Chen Tuo nodded, threw down his cigarette butt, and stomped it out.

"That's good. Having a shadow isn't necessarily a bad thing; it will prevent you from doing something so stupid again."

Zhang Shanhai smiled wryly, "I will never do it again, Brother Chen Tuo. You're right, in this apocalypse, you can't trust anyone. But I trust you. After all, you've saved me twice already, and I can never repay you enough..."

Chen Tuo didn't waste any more words. "Old Zhang, let's not beat around the bush. I'm very disappointed in you, but at least the way you handled Li Wenwu redeemed you a little. If you want to come with me, agree to three conditions. If you can do them, I'll give you another chance. If you can't, we'll part ways here."

"What are the conditions?" Zhang Shanhai immediately asked.

Chen Tuo recounted the rules he had told Shu Yao and Jiang Xin, and Zhang Shanhai nodded without hesitation.

"I have no objection. Brother Chen Tuo, you are the leader, so the allocation of supplies and the decision-making of actions should be based on your will. As for special training, I would be more than happy to have a fighting master like you personally instruct me."

"Alright!" Chen said no more. "Let's get out of here quickly..."

Just then, Jiang Xin and Shu Yao came out, having finished packing and carrying large and small bags.

As I approached the window, the zombie from before reappeared.

However, unlike when it was sitting outside, it was now standing behind the railing. Even without binoculars, Chen Tuo knew that its gaze was fixed on them.

Chen Tuo had a bad feeling about this strange zombie.

Suddenly, it disappeared again.

Chen Tuo saw it pull its head back, as if it knew it had been discovered and was deliberately hiding itself.

He ignored him and instead looked downstairs.

Fang Hui and Lao Zhang had become a pile of rotten flesh, leaving only more than twenty zombies licking the remains on the ground.

Most of the zombies have left, but they still linger near Unit 1.

Chen Tuo threw the red-haired man's corpse away forcefully.

The fresh food immediately attracted most of the zombies, causing them to swarm towards it.

"Walk!"

Chen Tuo picked up a machete from the shoe cabinet and charged ahead with Zhang Shanhai.

Shu Yao and Jiang Xin followed behind, carrying their spoils.

As soon as the glass door was pushed open, ten meters away, large swarms of zombies were fighting over food.

Although most of the zombies were lured away by the red-haired man's corpse, a small group still lingered at the entrance.

Without saying a word, Chen Tuo slashed at the leader of the zombies.

Zhang Shanhai pounced right after him...
