Diary of Getting Rich Quick in the South

Chapter 4 Su Wan Gets Beaten

I turned around and found my cousin standing behind me, his face flushed.

His eyes were half-closed, and he looked like he had drunk too much.

Feeling guilty, I called out "cousin".

My cousin put his arm around my neck, grinned at Su Wan, and said, "How about it? Isn't your cousin's wife prettier than those actresses in movies? I... let me tell you, she was the school beauty back then. It was so hard for me to pursue her..."

Su Wan is indeed beautiful; she's the most beautiful woman I've ever seen in my life.

Su Wan blushed and shyly pushed her cousin away, saying, "Chen An is still here, what nonsense are you talking about! Don't you know how to be ashamed?"

My cousin, drunk, clung to Su Wan and planted a big kiss on her cheek: "How could I have lied? My wife is the most beautiful woman in the world, no one can compare! Come on, give me a kiss!"

"Are you trying to die?!"

A blush crept onto Su Wan's face without her realizing it. She pinched her cousin's waist hard and said, "You've had too much to drink. Let's go. Whatever it is, we can talk about it in the room..."

"Okay, okay, let's go back to the room, hehe."

About ten minutes later, the sound of my cousin and Su Wan arguing came from next door.

With a loud crash, something was smashed, and the arguing grew louder and louder, continuing into the living room.

"Su Wan, are you fucking crazy? Chen An is my cousin. What's wrong with me helping him find a job? We're family. Would I harm him?"

……

Su Wan's voice rang out.

"What kind of nonsense is it to drag your cousin into this? I'm telling you, this is absolutely unacceptable! Even if he starves to death or has to beg, that's his own fate, and it has nothing to do with you, Wang Long!"

Hearing Su Wan's words, my heart instantly turned to the soles of my feet.

I used to naively think that she stopped me from working with my cousin because she was afraid that he was going down the wrong path and didn't want to drag me down with him.

But now that these words have been spoken, everything is clear.

Ultimately, all she wanted was for me to stay and drag my cousin down, and for me to benefit from her family in the slightest.

You can know a person's face but not their heart; outsiders will always be outsiders.

"Fine, fine, you're so great. If you're so capable, then find him a job."

"I'll look for it... Where are you going?"

"I'm upset, let's go out for a drink."

"Wang Long, you come back here... If you go out tonight, don't ever come back to this house."

The sounds of arguing and pulling gradually faded away.

I stood behind the door, hesitating whether to go out and try to persuade them, since their argument was all because of me.

But in the end, I went back to bed and lay down.

They're arguing, what business is it of mine for me to go out? I might even make things worse.

At 2 a.m., I woke up needing to urinate and opened the door to go to the toilet.

As soon as the door opened, they saw Su Wan sitting on the floor in front of the sofa, hugging her knees with her hands and burying her head in her hands.

She hasn't rested yet?

Hearing the noise, Su Wan looked up and looked in my direction.

In the dim moonlight, I could see faint tear tracks on her face, and her right cheek was slightly swollen.

Did she get into a fight with her cousin?

Seeing me come out, Su Wan hurriedly wiped away her tears, forced a smile, nodded at me, and went back to her room.

I really wanted to ask her if her cousin had hit her.

But the words caught in her throat as her bedroom door closed.

If I had known it would turn out like this, I wouldn't have come to stay with my cousin.

Forget it, I'll find a job with room and board when it gets light. The pay may be low, but I can't stay here and ruin someone's marriage.

The next day, as soon as I finished packing my luggage and went out, I saw Su Wan sitting on the sofa in the living room.

She looked like she was waiting for me.

For a moment, I was caught between a rock and a hard place, unsure whether to leave or stay.

She glanced at the suitcase in my hand, but didn't ask any questions. Instead, she gestured with her chin toward the dining table and said, "Breakfast is on the table. After you eat, I'll take you to find a job."

Is she serious?

I quickly said no need, I would find it myself.

Su Wan walked over and took the suitcase from my hands, saying irritably, "You've just arrived in Chuncheng, you don't know anyone here, you can't even figure out how to take the bus, do you know where to find a job? Hurry up and eat something, it'll get cold."

To be honest, I don't quite understand her anymore.

If she dislikes me so much, why does she make my bed, make me breakfast, and even take me to find a job?

I can only conclude that the reason she helped me find a job was because she didn't want me to drag my cousin down with her.

After a quick breakfast, Su Wan drove me to the job market.

After wandering around for half a day, I still couldn't find a job I liked.

"Chen An, what exactly are you trying to do? You're not interested in any of these jobs?"

Su Wan wiped the sweat from her brow, her expression somewhat displeased.

I kept my head down and didn't say anything.

It's not that I look down on them, it's just that I don't dare to show my ID card to them.

When it came time to sign the contract, I would always make an excuse to say I didn't want to do it anymore, and then go back and tell Su Wan that it wasn't suitable.

Every time this happens, I would resent Su Wan in my heart. If she hadn't stopped my cousin from taking me with him, none of this would have happened.

If I hang out with my cousin, he definitely won't need me to fill out my ID card form.

Even if I can't hide it in the end and my cousin finds out, he probably won't send me to the police station.

During the meal, Su Wan suddenly asked, "Chen An, do you speak English?"

I proudly puffed out my chest: "Yes, I also speak some Japanese."

Don't underestimate me just because I'm only a college student; I studied computer programming, so English is a must.

I also enjoy watching untranslated Japanese anime, so I've taught myself some.

I certainly can't write, but I can understand the basics.

Su Wan looked surprised: "You're fluent in two languages? That's impressive."

After a pause, she continued, "If you had said so earlier, I wouldn't have taken you to the job market. My sister works in logistics and sometimes encounters foreigners. We need someone who can speak a foreign language. If you don't mind the low salary, you can give it a try."

Low wages?

I quickly asked, "How much is the salary?"

Su Wan was a little embarrassed: "Four thousand five hundred a month, including room and board, and I heard there's also a commission."

What I'm looking for most right now is a job that includes room and board, with a salary of 1,500 or more. I didn't expect it to be 4,500, plus commission.

I suppressed my excitement and asked timidly, "Then...do I need an ID card?"

"Of course I want to... Wait, why are you asking this? You didn't do something wrong outside, did you?" Su Wan looked at me suspiciously.

I didn't dare to meet her gaze, so I scratched my head and lied, "No, I didn't do anything wrong. It's just that I lost my ID card and haven't had time to go back and get a replacement."

Su Wan suddenly realized and said, "So, you mean you couldn't find a job at the job market before because you lost your ID card?"

I nodded guiltily: "I just came from my hometown. I haven't found a job yet and I lost my ID card. I was too embarrassed to tell you."

"You silly child, I thought it was something serious."

Su Wan shook her head and smiled wryly, not realizing I was lying, but just thinking I was too naive.

Su Wan stood up: "Have you finished eating? If you have, let's go."

I was taken aback: "Where to?"

"Where else can you go? Of course, go to the police station to reissue your ID card! Now you can reissue it even if you're in a different city."
