Chapter 76 Forgiveness

Mr. and Mrs. Nie's faces stiffened, their eyes flickered, and their confidence instantly weakened by half.

After a brief moment of panic, Nie's mother's eyes immediately reddened, her face filled with grievance and regret. Her voice was humble yet earnest: "Xiaoyu, how could you think of us like that? In your heart, are your parents so worthless?"

"We were foolish before, we were biased, and we let you down."

Nie's mother's voice choked with sobs, every word filled with self-reproach. She reached out to grab Nie Xiaoyu's arm, but she was coldly avoided.

"I've regretted it every day since you left. I can't sleep at night, and my mind is filled with thoughts of you. We really know we were wrong. We came here sincerely to bring you home, without any ulterior motives."

Mr. Nie also abandoned his usual sternness and indifference, his brows furrowed, his face full of vicissitudes and guilt, and he echoed in a deep voice.

"Xiaoyu, your father has lived most of his life and has never asked anyone for anything. Now he only asks you to come back with us. We acknowledge the mistakes of the past and will make up for them to you in the future, making up for everything we owe you little by little."

Nie Xiaoyu looked at them quietly, her eyes devoid of any emotion, only a cold indifference.

She doesn't believe it.

More than a decade of neglect, day after day of harsh criticism, unprincipled favoritism, the humiliation and despair of being kicked out—these cannot be erased by a few light apologies.

Seeing that Nie Xiaoyu was unmoved by reason or persuasion and remained aloof, Nie's mother panicked completely.

In order to bring Nie Xiaoyu back smoothly, Nie's mother slumped down and knelt on the ground.

"Xiaoyu, I beg you." She raised her head, tears streaming down her face, looking disheveled and humble. "I apologize to you, I kowtow to you to make amends. Even if you blame me or hate me, I will accept it. I just beg you to come back with us."

A hint of embarrassment and helplessness flashed in Nie's father's eyes. He sighed deeply, slowly bent his knees, and knelt down heavily.

"Xiaoyu, we're begging you." Mr. Nie's voice was hoarse, filled with exhaustion and pleading. "You'll always be our daughter, and we'll always be your parents. Come back with us, okay?"

This kneeling completely broke the deadlock.

Nie Xiaoyu's heart clenched suddenly, as if gripped tightly by an invisible hand, and a wave of intense bitterness and helplessness washed over her.

She could accept their harshness, selfishness, and favoritism, and she could ignore their indifference, but she couldn't bear this kneeling pleas.

They were the people who hurt her the most, but they were also her biological parents who gave her life and raised her.

Human hearts are not made of stone; the bonds of blood are deeply rooted.

For so many years, deep in her heart, she has always harbored a hope that has never been extinguished: that her parents will one day treat her as their daughter and that she can have a true family bond.

Could it be that she guessed wrong? Had her parents truly realized their mistake, and come today really just to take her back?

She stared blankly at her parents kneeling before her.

Her parents, who had once been high and mighty, frequently beating and scolding her and never once giving her a proper look, now hunched over in humility, their eyes red and their tears genuine, their posture reduced to dust.

Their hair was already streaked with white, and their brows and eyes were filled with the weariness of years. She had never seen them so disheveled and regretful.

The past grievances, the daily neglect, and the despair of being cruelly driven out of the house seemed to ease slightly at this moment.

Seeing that Nie Xiaoyu's eyes were softening, and knowing that she was wavering, Nie's mother's eyes lit up, and she quickly pressed her advantage.

"Xiaoyu, I've been reflecting on my actions every day. I was blinded by greed before, only caring about your younger brother and neglecting you, the most sensible and obedient one, which caused you a lot of suffering."

"Please give us a chance to make amends, okay?"

"Come home, Xiaoyu." Father Nie looked up, his voice hoarse and aged, filled with earnestness: "Home will always be your root, we are your only family, and we will never be biased again, never let you suffer any more grievances."

"Sister," Nie Xiaowei chimed in, "Father and Mother have already knelt down for you, don't you trust them?"

A glimmer of hope appeared in Nie Xiaoyu's eyes. After a brief silence, she immediately stepped forward and helped her parents, who were kneeling on the ground, to their feet.

"Father, Mother, please get up first."

After helping her parents up, she turned to look at Lu's mother.

Although Nie Xiaoyu didn't say anything, Lu's mother understood everything. Seeing that the family had cleared up the misunderstanding, Lu's mother was genuinely happy for Nie Xiaoyu.

But she really couldn't bear to see Nie Xiaoyu leave. In the end, they were the real family, so what reason did she have to keep Nie Xiaoyu here?

Lu's mother smiled gently: "Xiaoyu, they are, after all, your biological parents. If you want to go back, then go back."

"Come back whenever you want; this will always be your home."

"Yes, yes, yes." Mother Nie hurriedly chimed in, "Xiaoyu, I know you've grown attached to living here. Our home isn't far from here, only about a ten-minute bike ride. You can come over whenever you want."

Upon hearing this, Nie Xiaoyu breathed a sigh of relief, and her tense expression returned to a radiant smile.

"Father, Mother, I'll go back with you."

Upon hearing this, Mr. and Mrs. Nie exchanged a glance, and a sly smile appeared on their lips at the same time.

Nie Xiaowei excitedly pumped his fist and muttered to himself, "Great! I have the money to get married, and I have a job too."

Nie Xiaoyu glanced at Nie Xiaowei, frowning, and said, "Xiaowei, what did you just say? You've got a job now?"

Nie Xiaowei immediately stopped smiling and looked at his parents with pleading eyes.

A stiff smile appeared on Nie's mother's face as she hurriedly explained, "Xiaoyu, you don't know yet, do you? Xiaowei said before that as long as you can go back, he will find a job."

He also said he would earn money to buy you new clothes and high-end cosmetics.

Although Nie Xiaoyu was skeptical of her mother's words, she felt warm inside. At this moment, she even began to imagine the harmonious and joyful days of her family in the future.

"Father, Mother, wait a moment, I'll go pack my things."

"What are you packing for?" Mother Nie gripped Nie Xiaoyu's arm tightly. "Don't pack anymore. Didn't you want to come back again?"

"Your mother is right." Mr. Nie stepped forward and tightly grasped Nie Xiaoyu's other arm: "Whatever you need, Dad will buy it for you, the best of everything. Come on, let's go home."

As soon as the words were spoken, Mr. and Mrs. Nie grabbed Nie Xiaoyu and headed out of the courtyard without saying a word, as if they were afraid she would run away.

Nie Xiaoyu's arms were numb and painful. Looking at her parents' actions, she felt something was off. She had already agreed to go back, so why were they acting like this?

As soon as they stepped out, they ran into Lu Pingchuan, who was rushing back.

"Let go of Sister Xiaoyu."

Lu Pingchuan roared and rushed forward, slapping away Nie's parents' hands. Then, he pulled Nie Xiaoyu behind him and protected her firmly.
