Bright Sword: Starting from Obtaining the Equipment Slot

Chapter 1 A Fateful Encounter [Please Add to Favorites]

"Name?"

Behind the wooden table, a man with a small mustache asked without looking up.

Wei Dayong sat on the wooden stool opposite him, his back ramrod straight, but his eyes were rapidly scanning his surroundings.

This is the fifteenth day since he traveled here, and the third time he has been transferred to a prisoner-of-war camp.

Just two weeks ago, he was a firefighter in the 21st century. While on a fire rescue mission, he was knocked down by a large beam from the museum while trying to save a cultural relic.

When he opened his eyes again, he had become the famous Monk Wei from the TV series "Bright Sword".

Having absorbed the original owner's memories, he understood his situation better than anyone else.

The original owner, Wei Dayong, came from Shaolin Temple and was skilled in martial arts. He later joined the army and became a soldier in the Central Army. During the Battle of Xinkou, he fought desperately to break through the encirclement, but still could not escape the pursuit of the Japanese army and was thrown into a prisoner-of-war camp.

During this time, he barely managed to stay alive in the prisoner-of-war camp by relying on his original body's foundation and his modern military knowledge, but each transfer felt like a brush with death.

What puzzled him even more was that from the day he transmigrated, a strange interface appeared in his mind—six equipment slots were neatly arranged, corresponding to the hands, feet, waist, and head respectively.

Right now, apart from the faint white light flashing in the right-hand position, the other five positions are all gray and hazy, as if they are locked.

He tried touching everything around him, from his clothes to various odds and ends on the ground, but his equipment inventory remained unresponsive.

He realized that only specific items could be equipped.

For the past fifteen days, he has searched every corner of the two prisoner-of-war camps that he could reach, but he still hasn't found any items that could trigger a system response.

Now, I'm in a new environment, and I don't know if I can find any items to equip to unlock my cheat codes.

"Wei Dayong," he replied in a deep voice.

"Unit number?" the mustache continued to ask.

"The 1st Battalion, 3rd Regiment, 27th Division of the National Revolutionary Army."

"Military rank?"

"Sergeant."

When asked a series of questions, Wei Dayong answered them all flawlessly.

This information had already gone through his mind countless times.

The man with the small mustache finally raised his head, looked him up and down, and asked with interest, "You look quite sturdy. Do you know kung fu?"

Wei Dayong's heart skipped a beat. The original owner's martial arts skills were his greatest asset, but in the prisoner-of-war camp, being too conspicuous might not be a good thing.

He shook his head calmly and said, "I only know a little bit of farming, just enough to make a living."

The man with the small mustache chuckled, clearly not taking his words to heart.

However, he seemed to have some goodwill towards Wei Dayong, and actually reminded him, "How many of those who made it here alive are good people? You'd better learn to hide your weaknesses, or you'll regret it soon!"

After saying that, he drew a checkmark on the paper, waved his hand, and said, "Why am I telling you this... Get lost, go to the barracks on the west side and report to your captain."

Wei Dayong stood up and followed the guards toward the barracks to the west.

Along the way, he saw many prisoners of war like himself.

The Japanese army had barbed wire fenced off the parade ground, and sentries on the watchtowers stood with their guns pointed down at the ground.

Upon entering the barracks, a strong smell of foot odor hit you.

The barracks were packed with people, mostly soldiers from the Central Army and the Jin-Sui Army, as well as a few people dressed in Eighth Route Army uniforms.

When Wei Dayong came in, someone looked up at him, then quickly looked down again and continued fiddling with the things in their hands.

A man walked straight up to him, patted him on the shoulder, and said, "New guy? I'm the team leader here, my name is Wang Xiao. Follow me from now on, behave yourself, and you'll live a few more days."

Wei Dayong nodded, which was considered an agreement.

Those who can survive in a prisoner-of-war camp and even rise to the "management level" are no ordinary people.

He casually found a corner to sit down and began to observe his surroundings.

The barracks were extremely rudimentary, with only a few wooden plank beds covered with straw, and not even a decent table.

As night deepened, the prisoners of war gradually fell asleep, and the sound of snoring filled the barracks.

Upon arriving at the new place, Wei Dayong barely slept a wink all night.

After some time, the outside world began to brighten.

Wei Dayong, however, was wide awake. He leaned against the wall, plotting his escape.

It would take the original owner almost a year to create chaos by taking advantage of a competition with the Japanese special forces and manage to escape.

If it weren't for good luck in being rescued by Zhao Gang, he might have died much earlier.

But he didn't want to repeat the same mistake of passively waiting for an opportunity. He wanted to take the initiative, find the right moment, and leave this place as soon as possible.

Because he wasn't sure he could do the same things as the original owner of this body.

Just then, hurried footsteps sounded outside the barracks, followed by several Japanese soldiers rushing in with rifles at the ready, shouting in broken Chinese, "Get up! Get up! Assemble!"

The prisoners of war were awakened and dared not resist in the slightest. One by one, they groggily got up.

Wei Dayong's heart was in his throat. He didn't know what the Japanese army was up to this time, but his intuition told him that it probably wasn't anything good.

The prisoners of war were driven to an open area outside the barracks, where a cold wind howled, making them shiver.

Several Japanese officers stood not far away, talking in hushed tones, their eyes occasionally sweeping over the crowd.

Wei Dayong mingled in the crowd, his eyes quickly scanning the surroundings, searching for possible escape routes.

They were surrounded by tall barbed wire fences with sharp barbs hanging from them. To their right was a Japanese guard post with machine guns pointed directly at them. In front of them was an open area, and behind them were barracks and warehouses.

It seems that escaping from here is as difficult as climbing to the sky.

At that moment, a group of fifty or sixty people ran out from the barracks next to them.

When Wei Dayong saw the other person's attire, he was almost startled.

The other side was dressed as a special forces unit, clearly the special agent team from the original work!

How is that possible?

At this moment, a familiar face walked over, which completely dispelled Wei Dayong's hopes.

Wei Dayong recognized him; he really was the Japanese soldier named Yamamoto Ichiki from the original story.

The reason I was so impressed with him was partly because of the special forces' achievements, and partly because he was a colonel from the very beginning!

It should be noted that the commander of the Sakata Regiment, Nobutetsu Sakata, was only a colonel.

In the original series, he graduated from the Munich Special Military Academy in Germany and served as the captain of the Yamato Soul Commando, directly under the command of Yoshio Shinotsuka, the commander of the First Army of the North China Expeditionary Army.

To his utter surprise, he encountered his destined story boss less than a day after arriving at the new POW camp!

Soon, Wei Dayong realized that Yamamoto's special forces team had probably only been established recently, but they should have already started training prisoners of war in killing techniques!

Otherwise, he, as the captain, wouldn't have personally appeared here.

Sure enough, Yamamoto Ichiki walked up to the crowd and said in fluent Chinese, "Today, I'm giving you a chance."

He paused, his gaze sweeping over the crowd. "My special forces team needs training. Among you, who is willing to test their skills? Win and you're released; lose and you die."

The crowd erupted in uproar, and the prisoners of war looked at each other in bewilderment.

Anyone who spent a few days in this POW camp knows that competing with the Japanese special forces is like throwing an egg against a rock. Those special forces are all well-trained and ruthless, and they are simply not something that these POWs, who have been starving for several days, can handle.

Seeing that no one responded, Yamamoto Ichiki's smile widened, and he said arrogantly, "What? Nobody dares? Then I'll just order whatever I want."

Wei Dayong was still calculating in his mind that as long as he didn't show himself, the Japanese shouldn't target him.

If he has a couple more days, he might be able to find an item that can activate the cheat code, which would greatly increase his chances of escaping.

Just then, his gaze inadvertently swept over the Japanese special forces formation and suddenly stopped.

On the chest of a tall, thin Japanese soldier, a Suihou bead was emitting a faint blue light!
