Take her as my wife

Chapter 51 Helping Mother's Cousin Fight an Inheritance Lawsuit

The captured criminals and the nine rescued women urgently needed to be dealt with properly. Tan asked them to take turns driving, and they rushed back to Yicheng without rest.

When Jiang Ni got up for breakfast the next morning, Tan Wen had just returned from the bureau with his injuries all over his body.

Aunt Zhou exclaimed "Oh dear!" and rushed over to ask with concern, "What happened?"

Jiang Ni walked over and frowned slightly as she looked him over: "Didn't sleep all night?"

"Yes," Tan said, his spirits not too bad, "this matter is much more troublesome than we expected."

"Go wash up and get some sleep first, we'll talk about it after you wake up," she glanced at his injury, "Can it get wet?"

Tan nodded: "It's just a superficial wound, it'll heal in a few days—I'm going to take a shower now, sister, take your time getting to work."

After finishing breakfast, Jiang Ni told Aunt Zhou to remember to call Tan Wenqi for lunch before going to work. Half of August had passed in the blink of an eye, and the trial date for Du Yucheng's case was getting closer and closer.

This afternoon, the elderly couple from the Wang and Tong families came to the law firm to see Jiang Ni. Jiang Ni comforted them and talked to them about things to pay attention to during the court hearing. She also took the elderly couple out for lunch and chatted about recent events.

After the meal, Jiang Ni offered to call a taxi to take them home, but Tong Zheyuan politely declined, saying, "We have someone to pick us up, so there's no need for Attorney Jiang to spend money."

Before they could finish speaking, a white sedan pulled up in front of them, and a man in a suit got out.

Tong Zheyuan introduced, "Attorney Jiang, this is my nephew, Tong Zhou. Little Zhou, this is Attorney Jiang, our great benefactor whom I mentioned to you."

Tong Zhou shook hands with Jiang Ni very politely: "Hello, Attorney Jiang."

His eyes held an undisguised admiration. He had heard Tong Zheyuan mention Jiang Ni many times, but he had never met her in person. Today, he finally saw her and was utterly amazed.

I never expected that this smart and capable female lawyer would also be such a stunningly beautiful woman.

However, a direct approach would be too obvious, so Tong Zhou picked up the four elderly people and waited until they were in the car before speaking: "Uncle, could you please give me Attorney Jiang's contact information?"

Tong Zheyuan was perfectly aware of his thoughts: "I don't know if Attorney Jiang is single, so I can't give you her contact information; it would be very offensive. If you want to pursue Attorney Jiang, you'll have to figure it out yourself. If she's already in a relationship, then don't bother her."

"I know, Uncle." Tong Zhou, who was well-mannered, naturally understood Tong Zheyuan's meaning and responded reasonably without making a fuss.

Unaware that she had attracted another suitor, Jiang Ni returned to her office to continue her work. That afternoon, a woman came to the office, saying she had previously contacted Jiang Ni. Jiang Ni's assistant came upstairs to confirm.

She said her surname was Wen.

"Please invite her up."

Ms. Wen did contact her on the very noon of the day she accompanied Tan Wen to meet Song Ruixi.

The woman was carrying a designer handbag, wearing sunglasses, and had exquisitely manicured nails; she clearly wasn't an ordinary person.

Jiang Ni said in a calm tone, "Ms. Wen, as I told you on the phone, I'm not good at cases involving inheritance disputes. I sincerely suggest you find someone more capable."

Wen Rong took off her sunglasses. She was in her early fifties, but she was well-maintained and looked like a woman in her forties. However, upon closer inspection, her face had a somewhat futuristic look, making her beauty appear slightly stiff.

"Attorney Jiang, I believe you can get me what I deserve, and I will definitely pay you well—or, for your mother's sake, help me this time," she changed her form of address, "Nini."

Jiang Ni's long eyelashes trembled.

Wen Rong and Jiang Ni's mother, Li Yuwen, are cousins. The two sisters used to have a good relationship. When Jiang Ni was little, Wen Rong often bought her clothes and snacks.

After Li Yuwen's death, Wen Rong rarely visited the Jiang family anymore. She had undergone cosmetic surgery, and Jiang Ni found her face somewhat unfamiliar.

Jiang Ni finally relented: "Prepare the documents: the total assets under your husband's name, and evidence of your husband having a mistress. Of course, you should be aware that according to the current marriage law, even children born out of wedlock have partial inheritance rights."

Wen Rong: "I know, but what if the money is already in my name first?"

Jiang Ni understood what she meant and looked at her, replying, "Then it's up to you. How much you give them is entirely up to you."

Wen Rong's husband was remarried; he had been married before and had a daughter with her. That woman later died of breast cancer. Wen Rong was actually a mistress who rose to power; she had been pregnant but lost the baby, so her husband found another mistress and had a son with her.

Now that the old man has terminal liver cancer and doesn't have much time left, his mistress has quickly brought her son to claim a share of the inheritance.

In other words, Wen Rong is now competing with two parties: her eldest daughter from her ex-wife and her lover and son.

"Jiameng's share is what she deserves, I don't want it, but that vixen is making outrageous demands, and she even wants to legitimize her little bastard child so that he can succeed to the Deng family in the future. She's just delusional."

Jiang Ni wasn't interested in their squabbles among the wealthy families, and subtly gave them the hint to leave: "Go and prepare all the information first, and then you can communicate with me if you have any requests."

Wen Rong put on her sunglasses and stood up: "Okay—by the way, it's your father's birthday next weekend..."

She hesitated, then awkwardly recalled that Jiang Ni and Jiang Qiaonan's father-daughter relationship was not warm at all, and it was very likely that Jiang Ni had not been invited back to this birthday party.

As expected, Jiang Ni shook her head slightly: "I won't go, I've been busy with work lately. I've already picked out the gift, it should arrive in a few days."

Wen Rong pursed her lips: "Sorry... I'll be going now."

Jiang Ni didn't take it to heart. Over the years, whether it was Jiang Qiaonan's birthday or hers, neither of them would personally participate in it.

She was used to it long ago.

Speaking of which, her birthday is coming soon—the last day of September.

Her birthday is also close to the anniversary of Li Yuwen's death - October 15th.

Therefore, Jiang Ni doesn't like celebrating her birthday.

After calming herself down, Jiang Ni threw herself back into her work.

As it was nearing the end of the workday, Tan Wen sent her a message saying that he was already waiting downstairs at their firm to pick her up after get off work.

Jiang Ni thought of Tan Wen's feelings for her again. It was obvious that Tan Wen was good to her, but she was also good to Tan Wen, so it couldn't be interpreted in terms of that.

Verifying the feelings between a man and a woman is actually quite simple: just see if the other person has any desire for you.

Anyway, she never thought about kissing or sleeping with Tan Wen.

—Okay, Jiang Ni admits that her situation is special because she didn't have those thoughts about Tan Yan back then.

She has kissed Tan Yan very few times, and those were only because her psychologist told her she needed to do so, rather than it being an involuntary act on her own.

Thinking of this, Jiang Ni quickly took out her phone and opened her notes, only to find that she had already missed two therapy sessions.

While I was lost in thought, my phone vibrated; a call was coming in.

It was Tan who asked.

"Sister, haven't you come down yet?"

Jiang Ni snapped out of her daze and picked up her packed bag: "I'm here."
