Take her as my wife

Chapter 23: My sister's words sounded like she was jealous.

When Aunt Zhou heard from Jiang Ni that Tan Wen would be cooking tonight, she was surprised and offered to help him out, but Tan Wen politely declined.

However, Aunt Zhou didn't leave. Instead, she stayed in the kitchen to watch Tan Wen operate the kitchen knife and spatula. Unexpectedly, this tall and cool young man handled the knife and spatula with exceptional ease.

"Wow, that knife skill is amazing, like a master chef."

"He can even toss a pot? That's amazing!"

Jiang Ni changed into her home clothes and came out. Hearing Aunt Zhou praising Tan Wen, she went to the kitchen to join in the fun.

Just then, Tan Wen finished cooking the Typhoon Shelter-style stir-fried shrimp that he had specially made for Jiang Ni. It was golden in color and had a wonderful aroma.

The facts were clear: Jiang Ni discovered that Tan Wen's cooking skills had not only not become rusty, but had actually improved considerably. In just over an hour, he had prepared several delicious and visually appealing dishes.

Aunt Zhou was still praising him: "If any young girl marries you in the future, she will be truly blessed."

Jiang Ni sat down first and tried a piece of braised pork ribs. Tan Wen took off his apron and sat down opposite her, looking at her and saying to Aunt Zhou, "You're still far from good enough. I'd like to take a baking class to learn more in the future."

"Why would you need to spend money to take any classes? If you don't mind, Auntie will teach you! My young lady thought I was good at baking, so she chose me from among several aunties. She especially likes all kinds of desserts, Chinese and Western, and Auntie can make a little bit of everything."

Tan Wen peeled shrimp for Jiang Ni, replying, "Thank you so much, I'll definitely learn how to do it properly—sister, is it delicious?"

Jiang Ni nodded: "You're amazing. I still can't cook."

Tan put the peeled shrimp into her bowl and casually said, "One person in a family who can cook is enough. If you can't, just find someone who can."

He said it so naturally, as if he were chatting casually, that neither of the two women at the table noticed anything amiss and didn't take it to heart.

Aunt Zhou continued, "That's right, your hands are too precious to deal with everyday things. You should just find a good husband to take care of you in the future."

Tan Yan didn't know how to cook before, so Aunt Zhou was responsible for all three meals a day. Thinking about this, Aunt Zhou actually had some thoughts in her mind - her salary was paid by Jiang Ni, and after Tan Yan moved in as the male head of the household, Jiang Ni even gave her a raise, which was also given by Jiang Ni.

Jiang Ni is responsible for all the household expenses.

Aunt Zhou knew all about living expenses, property management, water, electricity, and gas, because Tan Yan managed his own salary card, and Jiang Ni didn't care about these things.

—He's just like a gigolo.

Jiang Ni ate an extra half bowl of rice tonight.

There's a dishwasher at home, so Aunt Zhou went to clean the kitchen, while Tan Wen accompanied Jiang Ni downstairs for a walk to digest her food.

Jiang Ni herself wasn't quite aware that she was actually quite famous in the neighborhood. However, the reason for her fame was so absurd that Aunt Zhou never mentioned it to her when she came back—initially, many residents thought she was some rich man's kept woman.

Living in a big house, driving a car worth hundreds of thousands, having a nanny to take care of her, and being very beautiful, these rumors eventually reached Aunt Zhou's ears. Every now and then, Aunt Zhou would go and tell people, "My young lady's family is already rich, and she graduated from a prestigious university. She can easily earn over a million a year."

That's how those absurd rumors stopped.

Before she broke up with Tan Yan, he would accompany her for walks. But she hadn't seen him for a while, and the neighbors all knew they had broken up. Now a new man had appeared, taller, more handsome, and a better match for her.

They just didn't hold hands.

They're probably still in the pursuit stage; everyone's thinking about it, but no one dares to keep staring at them.

After her walk, Jiang Ni went back to her room to take a shower, while Tan Wen went to talk to Aunt Zhou.

Can I add you as a friend?

Aunt Zhou kept up with the times and, having received a secret message, happily added him as a friend. As soon as they added each other, Tan Wen transferred 30,000 yuan to her.

"Xiao Tan, what is this?" Aunt Zhou asked in surprise.

Tan explained, "I'll be staying here for two months. Taking care of one more person will be more tiring for you, and the expenses will definitely increase. If I give the money to my sister, she definitely won't accept it. Just take it and don't tell her. If she gives you extra money, keep it for now and save it for her to use later."

"Hey, you're such a smooth talker, working with your brother... um, aren't you worried your auntie might get kickbacks from both sides?"

Tan Wen put it nicely: "My sister mentioned you to me a long time ago, and I trust her judgment in choosing people. Besides, that's not taking a kickback; it's your deserved compensation for your hard work. Aren't I going to learn baking from you?"

He transferred 30,000 yuan, which was already quite a lot more than he should have given. After starting his internship at the police station, he would eat breakfast and lunch at the station and only come back for dinner. On weekends, he might even go out to eat alone with Jiang Ni, so his living expenses wouldn't be that high.

Aunt Zhou understood what he meant, but she was even happier that he said such nice things.

"Then Auntie will accept it." Aunt Zhou happily tapped the payment button.

She thought to herself that this younger brother was meticulous in everything he did. He seemed like a cold kid at first glance, but in reality, he had a very likable personality—much more likable than his older brother.

So far, Aunt Zhou still doesn't know the reason why Jiang Ni and Tan Yan broke up, and she hasn't asked. But she doesn't feel sorry about it.

When Jiang Ni came out of the bath, Tan Wen had already finished showering and washing his hair and was waiting for her in the living room.

"It's still early, want to watch some TV?" he asked, patting the sofa.

He was wearing a black vest and loose white shorts. His hair, which had probably just been dried with a towel after washing, was no longer dripping wet, but the roots were still damp.

The Public Security University has strict requirements regarding hairstyles. His hair was short, and his smooth forehead was fully exposed. However, his sharp and rugged handsome face was softened by the warm lighting in the living room.

Only his exposed arms and long legs, muscular and still fierce.

Jiang Ni walked over. She wasn't wearing the silk slip dress anymore; instead, she had changed into a light pink cotton nightgown. Her long hair was loose, and as soon as she got close, her fragrance wafted into Tan Wen's nose.

He couldn't help but bite down on the soft flesh of his cheek, using the slight stinging pain to keep himself awake.

"Why aren't you drying your hair?" Jiang Ni casually ran her fingers through his hair and touched it. "It's very wet. Be careful not to catch a cold. Go dry it."

Terrible.

Tan Wen gently grasped her wrist and removed her hand from his head: "Don't lecture me yet. Why don't you take care of your own injury?"

The red marks that Tan Yan had left on her today hadn't completely faded yet. Tan Wen stood up and pressed her down to sit on the sofa: "I brought the spray you bought me the other day, try spraying some on."

He returned quickly, half-squatting on the ground, holding her wrist and spraying medicine on her: "Don't take what my brother said today to heart. If it weren't for my new sister-in-law, I would definitely have beaten him up."

Jiang Ni didn't mention Tan Yan, but instead asked, "Are you... familiar with Shen Yunqing?"

Tan looked up at her and said, "We're not close. We've only met twice. Why are you asking?"

Jiang Ni frankly expressed her thoughts: "Because you've been so good to all your sisters-in-law, you even consider Shen Yunqing's feelings."

Tan Wen curled the corners of his lips, held her wrist and blew on it, but his eyes were fixed on her with a smile.

"What my sister said sounds like she's jealous."
