Tehran Grocery Store: My Intelligence is Priced Clearly

Chapter 48 Langley is dead, so let's make up for it with numbers.

The meeting lasted a long time and ultimately ended with the radicals winning.

soon.

The heavy door to the conference room was roughly pulled open from the inside.

Farooq strode out, his face ashen.

Behind him were the other conservative high-ranking officials.

Al-Khalid leaned against the wall in the corridor.

Farouk stopped and turned to stare intently at him.

"General Al-Khalid, you've really squandered a winning hand."

"Such good chips, such a great opportunity, and you've ruined it all!"

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to."

Farouk, too lazy to say anything more to him, snorted heavily and left down the corridor with his men without looking back.

Aiharid watched their retreating figures, his face expressionless.

"Akhalid! Get in here!"

Dariush's roar echoed from the conference room.

Aiharid straightened the hem of his military uniform, pushed open the door, and went inside.

The air inside the room was already murky, and smoke filled the entire meeting room.

Darius sat in the chair, completely different from before.

"Sir."

Aiharid walked to the table and stood at attention.

"Bang!"

Darius slammed his hand on the table and pointed at Aihad's nose, cursing loudly.

"Akhalid, what promises did you make to me before?"

"Do you know how much frozen overseas assets Langley could get in return for being alive? How many sanctions waivers could he get?"

"What can a dead Langley do?"

"Besides causing trouble, it's utterly useless!"

Darius grew angrier as he spoke, and suddenly stood up, placing his hands on the table.

"Is your brain filled with sand? You think you can trap a sniper by sealing off the area?"

Aiharid lowered his head, letting the spittle fly onto his face.

"It was my dereliction of duty."

Ahrid did not offer any explanation.

"The shantytown has a complex terrain, and there were loopholes in the perimeter security, which allowed the other party to take advantage of the situation. I am willing to accept any punishment."

He knew very well that someone had to take the blame today.

Rather than humiliating the entire military in front of conservatives, it was the safest course of action for him to take the blame for dereliction of duty alone.

"Alright, Darius, what's the point of getting angry at him?"

Salihi, who was sitting to the side, stubbed out his cigarette in the ashtray and stood up, interrupting Darius's reprimand.

Salehi turned his head and looked at President Masood, who had been sitting silently in the main seat.

"This matter cannot be entirely blamed on Aiharid."

"I investigated this matter before coming here."

"The commando team's encirclement was not yet complete when Langley appeared."

"Under those circumstances, the assault team had no choice but to abandon the encirclement and launch a frontal assault."

"This gave Langley an opportunity to almost escape by climbing over the wall."

"What this means, I think everyone knows."

Salish looked around at everyone in the conference room.

"Ahlid bears undeniable responsibility for Langley's death."

"But the more fatal problem is that our internal sieves are leaking way too much!"

"The fact that Langley was able to obtain the intelligence in advance means that the person who leaked the information was definitely not of a low rank."

"If we don't dig this hand out, no matter what actions we take in the future, the result will only be the same as today!"

The meeting room fell silent.

The mole...

These two words are like a guillotine hanging over everyone's heads.

The mole, represented by "The Watchers," was just removed by the General Staff, and now, things are not peaceful on the Holy City Brigade side either.

Aiharid stood there, Zhang Jian's face flashing through his mind.

He had a strong intuition that Langley's death was definitely related to that Chinese man.

It's even highly possible that the sniper hiding in the shadows was arranged by Zhang Jian!

But he couldn't say.

Firstly, there is no direct evidence to prove that Langley's death was related to him.

Secondly, Zhang Jian possesses a great deal of top-secret intelligence from the US military, which is exactly what the Iranian military urgently needs right now.

Once Zhang Jian is implicated, the military will lose an extremely important source of intelligence.

In comparison, a dead Langley isn't worth doing this for.

Massoud sat in a large leather chair, his hands clasped on the table, listening attentively to Salehi's words.

He slowly sat up straight, gestured with his hand, indicating that Darius should sit down.

"alright."

"In any case, the path to peace talks is now completely blocked."

Massoud looked at Ahkhalid.

"Since the person is already dead, pursuing the responsibility will not bring them back to life."

"Aikhard, besides Langley, are there any other living, valuable targets on the scene?"

Ahrid's spirits lifted, and he quickly reported back.

"have!"

"We apprehended Langley's deputy on site, Smith, the CIA's second-in-command in the Middle East!"

"He is Langley's confidant, and he is actually in charge of most of the intelligence about Tehran."

"If he speaks, we can quickly remove all of Tehran's eyes and the CIA spies hidden within us."

"We can also uproot Robert Hall, the head of Iran's CIA intelligence service."

Masoud nodded slightly.

"Smith..."

He repeated the name over and over.

He then stood up, walked to the map in the conference room, and looked at the dense markings on it.

"Since things have come to this point, let's go all the way."

Masoud turned around and looked at the several high-ranking military officials in the room.

"Those who live will be traded for chips, and those who die will be used as sacrifices."

"Don't the Americans think we're easy to bully? Don't they think they can plant spies here whenever they want?"

"Akhalid!"

"exist!"

Ahried suddenly straightened his back.

"Expedite the interrogation of Smith!"

Massoud issued the instructions word by word.

"I want you to uproot the CIA's intelligence network in Tehran, and even throughout Iran, in the shortest possible time!"

"Find out everyone involved, whoever they may be!"

"Since Langley is gone, let's make up for it with numbers."

"yes!"

Ahrid responded loudly.

"Go and do it."

Masoud waved his hand.

Aiharid turned and strode out of the conference room.

Half an hour later.

An unmarked underground military facility on the outskirts of Tehran.

Al-Khalid strode down the dark, damp corridor, his military boots echoing dully on the concrete floor.

His adjutant followed closely beside him, holding a freshly printed interrogation record.

"General, Smith is very stubborn."

The adjutant opened the folder and quickly reported the situation.

"Ordinary interrogation methods are completely useless."

"Aside from repeatedly emphasizing his diplomatic immunity, he refused to provide any substantive details."

"What do you think... should we use truth serum on him?"

"Diplomatic immunity?"

Aiharid sneered.

"Does he think this is Washington, D.C."

The two walked to an iron gate at the end of the corridor.

Two armed Revolutionary Guard soldiers immediately stood at attention, saluted, and turned to pull open the heavy iron door.

Inside the interrogation room.

A glaringly bright, high-wattage incandescent light bulb hangs high overhead.

In the center of the room, Smith was tightly bound to a chair.

His suit had long been stripped off, leaving him only in a white shirt soaked with sweat.

Although he hasn't been tortured yet, he looks extremely listless.

Hearing the door open, Smith looked up and squinted at the doorway.

Aharila pulled over a chair and sat directly opposite Smith.

She glanced at him calmly, then reached into her pocket and pulled out a pack of cigarettes.

He took out a cigarette, lit it, and slowly exhaled a smoke ring.

The smoke slowly diffused and rose under the light.

"Mr. Smith."

Al-Khalid flicked his cigarette ash.

"The environment here might not be suitable for your status."

"But I assure you, if you continue to remain silent, what follows will be an experience you'll never forget."
