New Three Kingdoms Tales: Starting as the expressionless Liu Bei

Chapter 53 Liu Bei uses tactics on the battlefield, while Lü Bu feigns defeat and flees from the cit

On the city wall of Chenliu, a group of feudal lords looked down from afar and saw Liu Bei and Lü Bu whispering to each other, discussing something.

They were too far away to hear a word, they could only see the two men's lips moving, and their expressions did not resemble those of enemies fighting to the death.

Yuan Shao was filled with doubts. Without making a sound, he slowly channeled the strange power within his body into his ear, trying to catch any words carried on the wind.

However, since Liu Bei and Lü Bu's conspiracy had automatically relegated Guan Yu and Zhang Fei to eavesdropping roles, no one else could intervene under the rules. Yuan Shao could only hear a hollow buzzing in his ears; he couldn't hear anything at all.

Although he could not find any substantial evidence, an uneasy intuition gripped his mind.

What these two were discussing in private was definitely not anything good.

If it only harms the coalition of warlords, Yuan Shao would be happy to see it happen, since he originally wanted to use Dong Zhuo to weaken the various forces.

But if this fire were to burn him, Yuan Benchu, then he would be extremely unwilling.

Lacking any evidence, he could only suppress these thoughts in his heart and grit his teeth in secret.

Liu Bei was a treacherous man who appeared loyal, and a hypocrite who appeared genuine; he was truly a hypocrite rarely seen in a century!

When they joined the alliance, they repeatedly claimed to be supporting the Han Dynasty. Not long ago, they even righteously told Cao Cao that they, the warlords, only knew how to drink celebratory wine.

The words were still ringing in our ears when Liu Bei, who had always vowed to restore the Han Dynasty, was now openly colluding with Lü Bu, Dong Zhuo's adopted son, and committing this despicable act!

What does this tell us? It couldn't be clearer.

Liu Bei clearly saw this alliance of lords as a springboard to rapid advancement, accumulating his current strength and status. Now he was about to use this momentum to collude with that usurper!

It's a pity, a lament, and a hateful thing!

Yuan Shao sighed softly, a hint of regret welling up in his heart.

If Yuan Shao hadn't been soft-hearted and hadn't agreed to let Liu Bei join the alliance, but instead had simply driven him out of the city, he wouldn't be in this predicament today.

Now that things had come to this, he was helpless and could only watch as everything continued to unfold. The sense of powerlessness almost suffocated him.

Unexpectedly, at that moment, something completely out of the ordinary happened.

Liu Bei, who had been whispering with Lü Bu, suddenly stepped back, drew his twin swords, and swung them fiercely at Lü Bu.

Lu Bu was unable to dodge in time and was struck on the shoulder by a sword.

On the city wall, Han Fu, standing beside Yuan Shao, suddenly leaned halfway out, pointing below and shouting, "Alliance Leader Yuan! Alliance Leader Yuan! Lü Bu has been struck by Liu Bei! It turns out Liu Bei was just using delaying tactics; his real killing move was a sneak attack on Lü Bu!"

Yuan Shao turned his head and glared at him coldly. He thought to himself, "I'm not blind, I don't need you to yell at me."

On the battlefield, swords flashed. Liu Bei wielded two double-edged swords, pressing forward step by step, striking Lü Bu with each blow, becoming more and more adept with each strike, as if the pent-up energy within him had finally found an outlet.

Lu Bu was forced to retreat repeatedly by his fierce attack, and the blow to his shoulder made him wince in pain.

While parrying, he said urgently in a low voice, "Father Liu! Didn't we agree to fight a few real moves and then switch to a fake fight? Your swordsmanship is too ruthless; I can't withstand it without using my strange powers!"

Liu Bei kept wielding his sword, but inwardly he chuckled to himself. That flurry of hacking and slashing earlier had indeed been exhilarating.

Since transmigrating to this new Three Worlds, he has discovered that this body has a very solid foundation, superb swordsmanship, top-level martial arts, and can throw a hundred-step flying sword with ease. In terms of skill, he is no less than any general.

But this is a world where strange rules and superstitions abound, and having martial prowess alone is simply not enough.

It's fine to bully ordinary people and generals who haven't been corrupted by the supernatural, but if they really run into the supernatural, they might not even be able to defeat a single guard like Sun Qian.

He had suffered a great loss at Gongsun Zan's hands before. His proud Hundred-Step Flying Sword was easily blocked by the strangely transformed Gongsun Zan.

Today, I finally ran into Lu Bu, who doesn't use any strange powers and is top-notch in martial arts. I'm determined to give him a good beating.

Fearing that Lü Bu would be driven away in terror by his flurry of swords, he immediately spoke up to reassure him:

"My son, Fengxian, I'm testing you. Think about it, if you can't even beat me, how will you protect Diaochan in the future?"

"If one day, the strange forces in this world suddenly disappear, will you regret your retreat today?"

The moment Lü Bu heard the name "Diao Chan," his expression changed.

Just moments ago he was grimacing and blocking, but now, with a sudden jerk of his arms, his aura has surged.

"Father, then I won't hold back?" He gripped the halberd tightly and asked in a deep voice.

Liu Bei slashed his sword at the halberd shaft, sneering, "Come! Let me see just how capable Lü Bu, the man among men, and Red Hare, the horse among horses, truly are!"

Without further hesitation, Lü Bu swung his halberd and slashed at Liu Bei.

Liu Bei thought to himself, "Good timing!" After attacking for so long, it was a good opportunity to test the defensive capabilities of this body. He gripped his double-edged sword tightly and parried the attack head-on.

The sword and halberd clashed, sparks flying. A terrifying force surged down the blade, causing Liu Bei's arms to sag and the scabbard at his waist to creak under the pressure.

Lu Bu was also not unscathed; the force of the impact made his hands go numb, and he almost lost his grip on the halberd. He was secretly surprised; his new father's strength was even greater than his own.

He dared not hold out any longer, and with a sudden burst of strength from his arms, he forced Liu Bei back half a step, and shifted his horse to a different position.

The two fought for more than thirty rounds, exchanging blows with swords and halberds, neither able to gain the upper hand.

Just as the battle was at its most intense and evenly matched, a rapid sound of horses' hooves came from behind, and Zhang Fei's booming voice, like a broken gong, rang out from afar:

"Big brother! Stop fighting! My second brother and I are watching with envy. Let us go up and have some fun too!"

Liu Bei frowned slightly and glanced back. He saw Guan Yu and Zhang Fei riding towards him. Zhang Fei's eyes were shining, and Guan Yu, though silent, had his hand on his sword hilt, ready to strike.

Liu Bei sighed inwardly. He hadn't even had his fill of fighting yet, and these two drunkards had already jumped out to snatch him away.

Seeing this, Lü Bu lowered his voice and said to Liu Bei:

"Father, I'll take my leave now. Let's have a good fight next time we meet."

Without waiting for Liu Bei's reply, he turned his horse and rode off. Red Hare's four hooves were off the ground, and in the blink of an eye, it had already galloped several feet away.

Liu Bei watched the departing red figure, his face expressionless, but he sighed slightly in his heart.

That flurry of hacking and slashing just now was indeed exhilarating.

But this pleasure ultimately comes at a price. He knew better than anyone that everything he had just said was fabricated.

When Lü Bu returns to Luoyang, whether he seeks confirmation from Diao Chan or figures it out on his own, this adopted son will eventually realize that he has been tricked by him.

At that point, father and son will become enemies.

He reined in the reins, slowly sheathed the double-edged sword at his waist, and looked in the direction where Lü Bu had gone, feeling a sense of melancholy.

Such a hero, yet he couldn't be used by him. What a pity, what a pity.

Guan Yu and Zhang Fei rode swiftly to Liu Bei's side. Seeing his expression, Guan Yu narrowed his phoenix eyes slightly, a smile appearing on his red face: "Brother, you've taken pity on me again. This man is beyond redemption."

Zhang Fei nodded in agreement, "Brother, have you forgotten how Ding Yuan died? You want to be Lü Bu's father? Be careful, he might turn on you!"

As he spoke, he grinned and added half-jokingly, "Big brother, it's fine if you die, but don't drag me and second brother down with you."

Liu Bei glanced at Zhang Fei. He knew that these words were no joke, but a heartfelt truth.

He didn't respond to those words, but instead turned his gaze from the distance and said in a deep voice to his two younger brothers:

"Second brother, third brother, now is the time to press our advantage. Dong Zhuo's army must be hiding behind the mountains. We can go and take that traitor Dong's head." With that, he spurred his horse and charged ahead.

The three riders kicked up clouds of dust and chased after Lü Bu in the direction he had fled. On the city wall, the assembled lords looked at each other, unsure of what to do next.

Yuan Shao was overjoyed to see that his three brothers were willing to go to their deaths.

Knowing that Dong Zhuo's army was hiding behind the mountains, he was about to order the city gates closed and send his three brothers to their deaths when Cao Cao spoke up first: "Alliance Leader Yuan, the enemy army is exhausted, and this is a golden opportunity! Please issue the order to advance immediately!"

Yuan Shao's face darkened. He turned his head and stared intently at Cao Cao's smiling face, his teeth grinding together. Forced by the rules, he could only nod reluctantly.

"All generals, heed my command! Open the city gates wide and charge out to fight Dong Zhuo!"

After all the feudal lords had descended the city walls and led their troops out of the city, Cao Cao turned around and asked Cao Ren beside him, "Where is my general?"

Cao Ren clasped his hands in a fist salute and reported back: "The entire force has been assembled and is awaiting orders in the east of the city."

Cao Cao gazed ahead, watching the various warlords march in a mighty, dusty mass towards the back of the mountain, a strange smile playing on his lips.

"Alright. Follow me straight to Hulao Pass and we'll take Luoyang."

"Here you are."

The troops of various warlords followed closely behind Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei, heading towards the ambush position of Dong Zhuo's army.

The original version of the new Three Kingdoms series ended abruptly here, skipped by Tianyi Ye with a single click, so the author could not know what exactly happened at that time.

In order to avoid the story ending here, the author will tentatively speculate on what will happen next. If there are any inaccuracies, please point them out.

Lü Bu returned to his army, having successfully completed his mission of luring the enemy, and earned praise from Dong Zhuo.

The Xiliang army and the allied forces of the warlords engaged in fierce battle. The allied forces had countless strange and powerful figures, and with the help of divine intervention, they routed Dong Zhuo's army.

Dong Zhuo led his remaining troops back to Luoyang, which led to the burning of Luoyang and the relocation of the capital to Chang'an. Cao Cao then went to Sun Jian to borrow cavalry to pursue and kill Dong Zhuo.

As for the outcome of this battle, it is indeed a mess.

The new three timelines are already chaotic. According to the original film, Dong Zhuo claimed to have won the battle, but Wang Yun said that Dong Zhuo was defeated and was killed by the three brothers Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei.

Dong Zhuo's Xiliang cavalry were clearly skilled in field battles, and Lü Bu was the only one to challenge them. The main force of the army was not exhausted, yet they were inexplicably defeated.

Since this part of the plot was skipped by fate, after much deliberation, the author could only work backward from the subsequent plot to conclude that Dong Zhuo's battle was a defeat.

If Dong Zhuo had not been defeated, there would have been no relocation of the capital or burning of Luoyang. He could have directly used his power as Grand Tutor to quell the rebellion and wipe out the coalition of warlords in one fell swoop.

That's about it for now. See you in the next chapter!

Oh, right, there's one more thing.

(P.S.: The author plans to follow the example of Zhebangye and launch an event to encourage readers to increase the word count of each chapter. For example, if the previous chapter had 100 requests for more words, then this chapter will have a minimum of 2 + 1 words.)
