New Three Kingdoms Tales: Starting as the expressionless Liu Bei

Chapter 23 Yuan Gonglu's Last-Minute Rescue; Liu Xuande and the Three Armies Obey Orders

The moment that sound pierced his ears, Liu Bei felt a surge of joy. He knew his plan had succeeded.

He deliberately whispered to Tang Xiaohu just now to trigger that rule. Their secret plot was bound to be overheard.

Cao Cao had already become strange before he even spoke, and the thatched hut was now a perfect setting for two people and one strange person.

He calculated the time; Yuan Shu's reinforcements should have arrived by now. However, Cao Cao had tampered with the place, making it difficult to find the entrance. A brilliant idea struck him: he would simply use that rule to have Yuan Shu and his men enter as eavesdroppers.

He had only tried it as a last resort, and unexpectedly, it actually succeeded. But why was it Zhang Fei who arrived instead of Yuan Shu? This thought flashed through his mind, but he didn't have time to think about it further.

Before he could figure it out, Zhang Fei had already appeared out of nowhere, his eighteen-foot spear carrying a strong gust of wind, heading straight for Cao Cao.

Behind him followed Guan Yu, Yuan Shu, and countless armored soldiers, quickly filling the small thatched hut to the brim.

Liu Bei was slightly taken aback. It all happened so fast, like a dream, that it felt somewhat unreal to him.

The battle situation changed rapidly. Cao Cao suddenly swooped down, his five fingers like hooks, aiming straight for Liu Bei's throat.

The souls of Liu Bei, Guan Yu, and Zhang Fei were linked; if Liu Bei died, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei would surely perish. Seeing their elder brother's life hanging by a thread, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei roared simultaneously, their bodies suddenly swelling, their robes tearing apart inch by inch, and they entered a bizarre state.

The two men combined their strength and clashed violently with Cao Cao, the shockwave sending everything in the room flying. They actually withstood the attack and fought Cao Cao to a draw.

Before the dust had settled, Yuan Shu had already rushed to Liu Bei's side and said in a low voice.

"Xuande, we've arrived."

Liu Bei, still harboring doubts, asked in a low voice.

"Hey Highway Bro, how did you guys find this place?"

Yuan Shu smiled slightly and quickly recounted the events.

Upon receiving the plea for help, he immediately mustered his troops and rushed over. When he found Guan Yu and Zhang Fei, they were still drunkenly boasting and playing drinking games with Cao Ren, completely unaware that they had fallen into a trap to lure the tiger away from the mountain.

Enraged, Yuan Shu grabbed Zhang Fei by the collar and hurled the truth at him. The two men, realizing their mistake, smashed their wine bowls and stamped their feet in remorse.

Seeing that things were not going well, Cao Ren quietly retreated, trying to slip away in the chaos. Zhang Fei suddenly turned around, grabbed him by the back of the neck, lifted him up, and pointed the tip of his eighteen-foot spear straight at his heart.

Just as the spear tip was about to pierce through, Yuan Shu grabbed the spear shaft and shouted to stop him.

He stared into Zhang Fei's bloodshot eyes and explained, word by word: "Keep Cao Ren alive, we can use him as a hostage to exchange for Liu Bei."

Upon hearing the words "can save my brother," Zhang Fei's hand froze in mid-air. He panted heavily, barely suppressing his murderous intent.

Normally, even if Liu Bei himself came to persuade him, let alone Yuan Shu, he might not be able to stop. But at this moment, his elder brother's safety was more important than his temper.

Without a word, Guan Yu grabbed a rope and quickly bound Cao Ren tightly. The group then took the hostage and headed straight for the thatched hut.

When they arrived, the thatched hut was empty; only the faint sounds of Liu Bei and Tang Xiaohu talking could be heard from the void.

Everyone looked at each other in bewilderment. Just then, the ordinary wooden door suddenly emitted a layer of eerie blue light, slowly rotating and transforming into a bottomless vortex.

A faint suction force emanated from the vortex, seemingly connecting it to another space.

Yuan Shu frowned, about to speak, when Zhang Fei, spear in hand, plunged into the darkness. There was no time to dissuade him; Yuan Shu gritted his teeth, waved for the others to follow, and together they stepped into the eerie blue light.

The group rushed into the thatched hut, where Guan Yu and Zhang Fei were already locked in a fierce battle with the bizarrely transformed Cao Cao.

Liu Bei glanced at Yuan Shu beside him, and the intuition that something was wrong grew stronger in his heart.

Just now, Yuan Shu recounted the entire rescue operation at an incredibly fast pace, explaining every detail clearly. It was so clear, so fluent, as if he had memorized the entire sequence of events beforehand.

And then there was that teleportation portal. According to Yuan Shu, it appeared just as they arrived at the entrance, allowing them to overhear the plot, and then it respawned right in front of them.

One coincidence is a coincidence, but three coincidences stacked together are no longer coincidences.

strangeness.......

Liu Bei's mind was in complete chaos. Just as he was about to sort out these fragments and the rules at hand, Yuan Shu's exclamation suddenly rang in his ears.

"Not good! Xuande, we must run! General Guan and General Zhang can't hold out any longer, or it will be too late!"

Liu Bei instinctively looked up. He saw a huge, scarlet eyeball suddenly pop out from Cao Cao's face, accompanied by a piercing whistling sound, and slam into Guan Yu and Zhang Fei.

The two were blasted dozens of meters away, crashing heavily to the ground, where they fell silent amidst the rising dust.

Cao Cao grinned, revealing a gaping maw. His numerous eyes darted around, locking onto Liu Bei. He raised his thick, deformed arm and slowly spread his five fingers towards Liu Bei.

"Xuande, stop running! Join us now!" His voice was hoarse and manic, carrying an undeniable pressure. "I'm going to gouge your eyes out, one by one, and build them into my body!"

Liu Bei felt as if his heart had been gripped tightly by an icy hand. He staggered back two steps, his back drenched in cold sweat.

Tang Xiaohu suddenly appeared out of nowhere, blocking Liu Bei's path. His face was full of anxiety, and he urged him in a low voice.

"My lord, let's go quickly! I'll cover your retreat!"

Ok?

Liu Bei suddenly stopped in his tracks.

His face remained expressionless, as if he were wearing a mask that would never break. But his mind suddenly cleared at that moment.

He didn't look at Tang Xiaohu, nor did he respond. He just stood there quietly, like a frozen stone statue.

A crazy and audacious idea suddenly took shape in my dead mind.

Rule 1: Seeing is not believing. Do not trust what you see, and whatever happens, always keep a blank expression.

Seeing that Liu Bei had not moved for a long time, and glancing at Cao Cao who was approaching step by step, Yuan Shu was so anxious that he was covered in sweat and almost rushed up to grab Liu Bei and drag him out.

"Xuande, hurry! If we don't leave now, it will be too late!"

Liu Bei slowly turned his head, his face still bearing that unchanging expressionless face, without even a furrowed brow.

"Brother Highway, do you believe me or not?"

Yuan Shu paused for a moment, then nodded vigorously.

"Very well. I have a way to defeat Cao Cao, even kill him." Liu Bei's voice was calm as still water, as if stating a simple fact. "Brother Gonglu, would you be willing to try with me?"

Yuan Shu was taken aback again, a hint of undisguised surprise flashing across his face.

"Impossible! Cao Cao is invincible in his current state; we are no match for him!"

Before he finished speaking, Yuan Shu's expression suddenly froze for a moment, as if he realized that his tone just now was different from his usual tone.

He quickly added another sentence, speaking very fast, as if trying to cut off any gaps in Liu Bei's questioning.

"Xuande, let's run! As long as Cao Cao has a breath left, he's invincible!"

In the distance, Zhang Fei struggled to his feet, a trace of blood still clinging to the corner of his mouth. He roared hoarsely at Liu Bei.

"Big brother, run! Otherwise, I, Old Zhang, won't recognize you as my big brother anymore!"

Liu Bei was speechless. When did you ever truly consider me your elder brother? If I didn't put a sword to my own neck, you probably wouldn't even bother to listen to a single word.

Cao Cao's countless eyes simultaneously curved into a hideous arc. He was less than ten paces away from Liu Bei.

At this critical moment, Liu Bei suddenly drew his double-edged sword from his waist, the blade flashing coldly in the dim room.

He scanned the entire room, taking in every face. Yuan Shu's anxiety, Zhang Fei's struggle, Tang Xiaohu's astonishment, and Cao Cao's countless darting eyes.

Then he spoke.

The sound wasn't loud, but it pierced everyone's ears like an iron nail.

"Brothers, follow me into battle! Fight to the very last moment, then commit suicide!"
