After the family split up, my stepmother and scumbag father begged me to come home.
Chapter 21 Nobody Suspects Me
The battle was raging in the courtyard.
Ding Yuxiang was indeed a ruthless character. The old lady grabbed her hair, and she retaliated by pinching the old lady's soft flesh at the waist. The two of them were like two fighting hens, circling and pulling at each other.
Lin Xiaohua stood anxiously by, reaching out to pull him away but not daring to, only able to call out, "Mother, Second Sister-in-law, stop hitting him."
Lin Yuanyuan hid under the eaves, covering her mouth, her shoulders shaking, it was hard to tell whether she was crying or laughing.
"What are you doing?" It was only when Old Man Lin returned that they pulled them apart.
"Stop it, all of you!" Old Man Lin roared, his face flushed red. "What kind of talk is this? If the villagers see this, where will the Lin family put their faces?"
The old woman, panting heavily, her hair disheveled like a bird's nest, pointed at Ding Yuxiang: "Ask her what she's done! Stealing my chicken! That old hen, I raised it for two years, it laid eggs for me every day, and she just ruined it!"
"I didn't steal it!" Ding Yuxiang's clothes were askew, revealing half of her arm. Without bothering to straighten them, she stood with her hands on her hips and retorted, "With so many people at home, ask them. I was sleeping in the house all afternoon. When did I steal your chicken?"
"I won't ask anyone else, you're the one who stole it. You had a problem with what happened this morning, so you killed my chicken, and you and your daughter ate it," Old Mrs. Lin roared.
The old woman persisted: "Then how come my chicken can fly by itself? There's blood on the ground, you must have stolen it!"
"Which eye of yours saw me eat it?" Ding Yuxiang sneered. "If you're so capable, search my house. If you find it, I'll admit it; if you don't, you're a liar!"
"Fine, I'll flip it!" the old lady said, and rushed toward the west wing.
Old Man Lin stopped her abruptly: "Nonsense! Making such a fuss over a chicken, what about the Lin family's reputation?"
"A chicken?" the old woman's voice rose, so shrill it could pierce eardrums. "I'm counting on selling the eggs for money! Damn it, I couldn't even bear to eat it."
Lin Qianqian, hiding in the woodshed, shook her head as she watched.
This old lady's fighting ability is so-so. When she encounters someone as reckless as Ding Yuxiang, she can't get the better of her at all. She can't win an argument, and she can't win a fight either, so all she can do is throw a tantrum, but Ding Yuxiang can throw a tantrum even more than she can.
"Sister, shall we go out?" Lin Yulong asked softly.
"Wait a little longer," Lin Qianqian said, pressing down on his arm.
She wanted to see how this would end.
The argument ended with Old Man Lin saying, "Let's talk about it when the second son comes back."
Not long after, Lin Xiaohua brought Lin Lao Er back. As soon as he entered the door, he saw two people who were at each other's throats—one was his wife, and the other was his mother.
Lin Lao Er inwardly groaned, his brows furrowing deeply. Neither of these two was easy to deal with.
"Second son, open your eyes and look at what kind of woman you married! She's not even as good as that sickly Su!" Old Mrs. Lin pointed at Ding Yuxiang, her voice shrill.
Ding Yuxiang sneered, refusing to back down: "The Su family is good? But she's dead! How dare that short-lived woman compare to me? She didn't have my life, but I'm still alive!" These words were deliberately meant to provoke the old lady.
But what angered them were Lin Qianqian and her brother.
She didn't even spare the dead; she had long disliked the Ding family.
She rushed forward and slapped Ding across the face hard: "You're not allowed to insult my mother!"
"You little slut, are you looking for a beating?" Ding Yuxiang covered her face, her eyes wide with rage. "I'm your mother! Your other mother died a long time ago!"
"You're not!" Lin Yulong rushed forward, his face flushed red. "My mother is gentle and kind, not a vicious witch like you!"
"You two little bastards, you've got a hard time, haven't you!" Ding Yuxiang was furious and kicked Lin Yulong.
Lin Qianqian reacted quickly, shielding her younger brother behind her and taking the kick herself.
Her small body was kicked and sent flying, crashing heavily to the ground, a trickle of blood escaping from the corner of her mouth.
"Sister!" Lin Yulong was so frightened that his face turned pale, and he rushed over to hug her.
Lin Qianqian endured the pain and secretly gave her younger brother a look—to cry.
Lin Yulong understood, and immediately sat on the ground, bursting into tears: "Sister, don't leave me! My stepmother is going to kill me!"
The shrill cries quickly attracted the attention of the neighbors, and a crowd gathered at the gate of the courtyard.
