After the family split up, my stepmother and scumbag father begged me to come home.
Chapter 18 Looking down on people
The waiter looked disdainful, thinking that he was different from others because he was a waiter at Tianfu Restaurant, and he didn't even bother to lift his eyelids.
"I won't accept it," he said gloatingly.
"I wouldn't sell you even if I wanted to, you're so ugly." After saying that, Lin Qianqian didn't forget to stomp on his foot hard.
"Ah—you brat, don't let me catch you, or you'll be sorry!" The waiter clutched his leg, his face contorted in pain.
Lin Qianqian and Lin Yulong made a face at him and disappeared in a flash.
They ran quite a distance before stopping to catch their breath.
"Sister, he didn't chase after us, did he?" Lin Yulong turned around and looked around.
"Don't worry, he won't be able to run today." Lin Qianqian laughed so hard she couldn't straighten up.
"Sister, what do we do if Fu Restaurant refuses to accept us that day?" Lin Yulong asked anxiously.
"There's more than one restaurant in town. Let's go to Tianxiang Restaurant." Lin Qianqian waved her hand.
The waiters at Tianxiang Restaurant are much friendlier now, always smiling and quick-witted.
"Please come in, gentlemen." The waiter greeted them.
"Brother, we're not eating. We wanted to ask if you buy wild game here? We just hunted a rabbit, it's really plump," Lin Qianqian asked with a smile.
"Alright, I'll ask. Our restaurant usually has its own suppliers, but whether we accept them or not depends on the manager's decision." The waiter said, lifting the curtain and going into the back.
A short while later, he came out with a smile on his face: "What a coincidence! It's our old lady's birthday, and she just happened to want a dish of braised rabbit. The shopkeeper said, 'Okay!'"
"That's great!" Lin Qianqian's eyes lit up.
"Come with me, let's go to the backyard, weigh the items, and settle the bill. We'll get it all done in one go." The waiter led the siblings through the lobby to a quiet backyard.
Lin Qianqian took out three fat rabbits from the basket, their fur glossy.
"Wow, it's really plump!" the waiter exclaimed.
At this moment, an old man walked in. He was neatly dressed and had a calm gaze. He was Manager Su of Tianxiang Restaurant.
He flipped the rabbit over and nodded.
"Little girl, are you the one who wants to sell wild game?" the shopkeeper asked.
The waiter quickly replied, "This is our Manager Su."
"Manager Su, what price would you be willing to offer for this rabbit?" Lin Qianqian asked cautiously.
"The rabbits are fifty coins each, according to market price." Shopkeeper Su paused, then looked at the fur again. "Your fur is of good quality. Selling it with the fur on, I'll give you an extra twenty coins each."
"Okay," Lin Qianqian replied readily.
"Oh, by the way, shopkeeper, I have another rabbit skin here. Would you like to buy it?" She pulled a skin out from the bottom of the basket.
Shopkeeper Su took it and looked at it: "Freshly peeled, intact, here's twenty coins for you."
Lin Qianqian nodded, secretly calculating the costs in her mind.
"Three rabbits, skin and all, cost two hundred and ten coins. Add this skin, and it's two hundred and thirty coins." Manager Su, fiddling with the abacus, glanced at the bunch of wild vegetables in the basket. "These vegetables are very tender. Want to sell?"
"It's for sale." Lin Qianqian nodded hurriedly.
"Two coins a pound, I'll weigh them all for you," said Manager Su.
The wild vegetables weighed a full fifteen jin (7.5 catties) and cost thirty wen (30 coins).
Shopkeeper Su strung the money together and handed it over: "It's two hundred and sixty coins in total, please count it."
Lin Qianqian took it, then smiled and pushed it back: "No need to order, shopkeeper, I trust you."
Shopkeeper Su was taken aback for a moment, then laughed, "You sure know how to talk, girl." After a moment's thought, he asked, "Will you still be able to have wild game regularly in the future?"
Lin Qianqian's heart skipped a beat, and she quickly asked, "What does the shopkeeper mean?"
"Wild game has always been a good seller at my restaurant. Rabbits, pheasants, wild pigeons—as long as they look good, I'll take as many as I want."
Manager Su paused for a moment, then said, "The price is negotiable, and it will be higher than today's price, not lower."
"Okay, Manager Su, my surname is Lin, and my name is Qianqian. I will need your help in the future," Lin Qianqian said politely.
Lin Qianqian carefully put the copper coin into her pocket, patted it, and felt much more at ease knowing it was heavy.
"Sister, that's a lot of money!" Lin Yulong's eyes widened, and he muttered to himself, "It's much better than that snobbish Tianfu Restaurant."
"Alright, stop nagging." Lin Qianqian pulled him along. "Let's go, don't delay Manager Su's business."
