Just as Wencai was getting drunk and his vision was blurred, the tavern's curtain was lifted.

A sleazy-looking figure walked in and went straight to sit down opposite Wencai.

Wen Cai raised his drunken eyes and glanced at him, then froze, "Ah...Ah Wei?"

Awei was wearing a navy blue short jacket and had a smile on his face, a stark contrast to his usual sycophantic demeanor.

Wen Cai hiccuped, frowned, and asked, "What...what are you doing here?"

Awei leisurely poured himself a glass of wine. "What's wrong? Drinking alone? I just happened to be passing by and saw you here, so I came in to have a couple of drinks with you."

Wen Cai snorted, "Don't give me that, we're not even acquainted!"

"Not familiar?" Awei smiled. "Things will be different from now on. I'll soon be your junior brother-in-law, and we'll be family."

"Who says we're family?!" Wen Cai slammed his hand on the table. "With your character, you think you're good enough for Tingting? I don't know what kind of magic you used on her, otherwise why would Tingting ignore me?!"

Awei glanced at Wencai with disdain. Even if he hadn't cast a spell on Ren Tingting, she wouldn't have given him a second glance!

"Evil magic?" Awei gave a strange smile, toying with the wine glass in his hand. "You're right, I did use some tricks, but these days, how can you achieve your goals without resorting to some methods?"

Wencai was taken aback by his words, staring at Awei, unsure how to respond.

Awei slowly took a sip of his drink, put down his glass, and lowered his voice, saying, "Wencai, I know you like Ren Tingting, and I know you're unhappy about it, but do you want to know... how exactly did she become like this?"

Wen Cai's drunken eyes suddenly cleared a bit: "What do you mean?"

Awei didn't answer, but instead took out a black talisman from his pocket, placed it on the table, and pushed it over.

The talisman exuded a faint, sinister aura. Wen Cai glanced at it and a sense of fear inexplicably arose in his heart.

"If you want to know the true purpose of this talisman, carry it with you and come to the dilapidated temple in the north of the town tomorrow night, and I will tell you the truth."

Wen Cai stared at the black talisman, the alcohol making his mind work slower than usual.

Logically, he should have been on guard, but the resentment and bitterness that had been building up in his heart for so many days suddenly surged up at this moment.

Coupled with Awei's temptation, he inexplicably reached out and put the talisman into his pocket.

Awei watched as he took the talisman, a flash of red light passing through the depths of his eyes, and a barely perceptible cold smile appeared on his lips.

Then he stood up and patted Wencai on the shoulder: "Then I'll wait for you, Wencai... Junior Brother!"

He turned and walked out of the tavern, disappearing into the night.

Wen Cai sat in his seat, touching the talisman in his arms, drunkenly staring at the door, his mind a jumbled mess.

Afterwards, Wencai staggered back to the mortuary.

Lin Bei and Shi Shaojian had returned to the mortuary as early as when it was dark. When they heard the door open, they came out and saw that it was Wen Cai.

"Junior Brother Wencai, where have you been these past few days?"

"Your martial uncle and Qiu Sheng are both very worried about you!"

Upon smelling the alcohol on Wen Cai, Lin Bei subconsciously frowned.

"Where I go is none of your business!" Wen Cai said coldly, heading straight back to his room.

"Hey, junior brother, what's with this guy's attitude?" Shi Shaojian immediately shouted, "I've disliked this guy for a long time. He has no skills whatsoever, yet he acts all arrogant!"

"Alright, alright, this is their territory after all!" Lin Bei didn't take these things to heart, but seeing Wen Cai like this, if things weren't handled properly, a big drama of a master-disciple split might unfold!

Not long after, Uncle Nine returned from the town. He had searched the entire town and asked some acquaintances, but none of them had seen Wencai.

No one expected that Wencai would actually go to the tavern to drink!

In his anxiety, Uncle Jiu thought of returning to the mortuary to set up an altar and perform a ritual to find Wencai!

Lin Bei told him that Wen Cai had already returned, and he reeked of alcohol.

When Uncle Nine found out, he secretly went to Wencai's room to take a look. He was relieved to see Wencai sleeping soundly on the bed.

"Don't worry about the child. Once he recovers in a few days, he'll be lively and energetic again!" Uncle Jiu said to everyone after returning to the main hall, and then everyone went back to their rooms to rest.

Late the next night, while everyone was asleep, Wencai secretly left the mortuary and went to the dilapidated temple in the north of the town.

As expected, Awei was already waiting there. He stood on the stone steps in front of the dilapidated temple, holding a dim lantern in his hand. Behind him, the temple door was open, and it was pitch black inside!

"Junior Brother Wencai, you've arrived." Awei greeted him with a smile.

Wen Cai stood three zhang away, not approaching: "What exactly do you want? What's wrong with Tingting?"

"Don't rush," Awei gestured behind him with his chin, "Let's go inside and talk."

Wen Cai hesitated for a moment, but still walked towards the dilapidated temple.

As soon as he reached the temple entrance, a strong, almost tangible aura of death rushed towards him.

Wen Cai froze, and before he could react, a hand had already grabbed the back of his neck and dragged him into the temple.

Inside the dilapidated temple, a purplish-black zombie stood before the offering table, its eyes glowing crimson, a cold smile playing on its lips.

Wen Cai was unable to move due to the terrifying corpse aura. His whole body trembled, and his mind went blank as he looked at the purple zombie in front of him.

"Zombie... zombie..."

"Wen Cai, isn't he?" the purple zombie spoke slowly, its voice chilling. "We meet again."

"You...you can actually talk?" Wen Cai stared at Liu Santong in horror. He had never heard of a talking zombie before!

"Hmph, how ignorant!"

Liu Santong raised his withered claws, and a wisp of black energy shot out from his fingertips, disappearing straight into Wencai's brow.

Wen Cai shuddered violently, his eyes widened, and then his eyes turned an eerie blood red!

Liu Santong withdrew his claws and nodded in satisfaction: "Not bad, you harbor resentment and hatred in your heart, making you much easier to control than those who are without desires."

"From today onwards, you will stay obediently in the mortuary. Answer whatever they ask, do whatever you are supposed to do, and no one is allowed to doubt you."

"You'll know what I need you to do when Ren Tingting gets married."

Wen Cai stood in the dilapidated temple, his eyes red, and slowly nodded: "Yes, Master."

"Lin Jiu, Lin Jiu... You can protect your disciple, but can you protect him from still clinging to you?"

"If you have someone to blame... blame their prejudice against you!"

Liu Santong let out a low laugh, and his figure swayed as he disappeared into the night.
