Zombie World: Starting as an apprentice of the Thunder King

Chapter 13 Shi Shaojian's Breakthrough

On the way back to Qingzhu Mountain, Lin Bei kept reliving the battle he had just fought.

When the black zombie pounced, he was actually terrified, but once the fight started, he forgot all about being panicked.

He still remembers clearly the icy sensation that came up from the hilt when the sword pierced the zombie's chest.

"Senior brother, what if my sword strike misses?" Lin Bei suddenly asked.

Shi Shaojian rolled his eyes at him: "So what if you missed? Do you think your master would just watch you get eaten by zombies?"

Lin Bei thought about it and agreed. Although Shi Jian was tough on the outside, he never hesitated to take action when necessary. With this big shot protecting him, he could go all out!

The three of them rushed as fast as they could and finally returned to Qingzhu Mountain in the early hours of the morning.

Lin Bei wiped the Demon-Slaying Sword clean, put it back in his room, and then went to the kitchen to boil a pot of water to wash away the corpse aura that clung to his body.

If the corpse aura of a black zombie clings to your body for a long time, it will cause rashes.

After taking a shower, Shi Shaojian actually started practicing in the courtyard. A beam of golden light from the mirror shone out and struck the wooden dummy, leaving a charred mark.

"Senior brother, what time is it? Aren't you going to sleep tonight?" Lin Bei leaned against the door frame.

Shi Shaojian ignored him and continued practicing.

This guy was clearly provoked. Lin Bei shook his head, went back to his room, and began to meditate and cultivate.

Most of the magical power in my dantian has been used up and needs to be replenished.

As the cultivation technique is practiced, the spiritual energy of heaven and earth slowly flows into the body, along the meridians into the dantian, and transforms into strands of new magical power.

Ten strands of magical power make up one strand. You need to cultivate three hundred strands of magical power in your dantian to break through to the mid-stage of the Taoist realm!

After a night of cultivation, Lin Bei opened his eyes and found that he had only cultivated a dozen or so strands of magical power in his dantian!

"You can't rush it! Master said that cultivation requires a steady and methodical approach; you can't be too hasty!"

He stood up, stretched his limbs, and his stomach started rumbling.

I was busy all day yesterday, and I only had a bowl of porridge for breakfast. I'm starving now.

Lin Bei ran to the kitchen, lifted the pot lid, and found two multigrain steamed buns and some pickled vegetables left in the pot.

He grabbed the steamed bun and started eating it, along with some pickled vegetables, finishing it in just a few bites.

After eating and drinking his fill, Lin Bei returned to the courtyard.

Shi Shaojian was still practicing, his forehead covered in sweat, but he was full of energy.

"Holy crap, senior, you didn't sleep at all last night, did you? Aren't you hungry?"

"I'm not hungry." Shi Shaojian didn't even turn his head, and once again unleashed a golden beam of Bagua light. Lin Bei stopped trying to persuade him and simply picked up the Ghost-Slaying Sword to begin practicing the Maoshan Ghost-Slaying Sword Technique.

I practiced all nine sword techniques from beginning to end, from the first move, "Breaking Evil," to the ninth move, "Slaying Soul."

The two practiced their own moves in the courtyard, neither of them speaking.

Shi Jian came out of the room, stood under the eaves for a while, and then turned back without saying a word.

In the following days, Shi Shaojian seemed like a completely different person.

I get up before dawn to run in the mountains, then practice using the Bagua mirror afterward. In the afternoon, I draw talismans, and in the evening, I meditate.

Lin Bei sometimes gets up to use the bathroom in the middle of the night and sees the light on in Shi Shaojian's room.

"Is Senior Brother trying to reach for the heavens? Why is he going this far?" Lin Bei muttered, not thinking much of it, and went back to sleep.

On the morning of the fifth day, Lin Bei got up as usual to run in the mountains. After running four times, he returned to find Shi Shaojian already meditating in the main hall.

Lin Bei didn't disturb him. She went to the kitchen, filled a bowl with porridge, and squatted in the courtyard to drink it.

Shi Jian sat under the eaves drinking tea, glancing occasionally toward the main hall.

After finishing his porridge, Lin Bei wiped his mouth and was about to stand up to practice his sword when he suddenly sensed a faint fluctuation of spiritual energy coming from the direction of the main hall.

He paused for a moment, then turned to look at the main hall.

Shi Jian had already stood up, placed his teacup on the armrest, and stared at the main hall.

"Is Senior Brother about to break through?" Lin Bei asked in a low voice.

Shi Jian didn't speak, he just nodded.

The fluctuations of spiritual energy became increasingly apparent, spreading outwards from the main hall like ripples on water, in concentric circles.

Lin Bei could sense the spiritual energy in the courtyard flowing towards the main hall. The flow was not fast, but it was very steady.

Shi Jian walked to the entrance of the main hall, pushed the door open, and glanced inside.

Shi Shaojian sat cross-legged on the futon, his eyes closed, his forehead covered in sweat, and his Taoist robe fluttering even without wind.

Shi Jian didn't go in; he just stood guard at the door!

Lin Bei also came over and peered inside, clinging to the door frame.

"Don't make a sound," Shi Jian said in a low voice.

Lin Bei quickly covered his mouth. When a cultivator is breaking through, it is most taboo to be disturbed. At best, all previous efforts will be wasted, and at worst, one will suffer a qi deviation!

Shi Shaojian's breathing became more and more rapid, and the fluctuations of spiritual energy around his body became more and more intense.

Shi Jian stood at the door, seemingly expressionless, but a hint of expectation lingered deep in his eyes.

As time passed, the spiritual energy fluctuations in the main hall grew stronger and stronger.

Shi Shaojian's Taoist robe was puffed up like a balloon, and his hair stood on end.

Suddenly he opened his eyes and let out a low growl.

"break!"

The fluctuations of spiritual energy reached their peak at this moment, and the aura of a Taoist master emanated from Shi Shaojian's body. Then, the fluctuations of spiritual energy slowly receded and quickly subsided.

Silence returned to the main hall. Shi Shaojian sat on the futon, consolidating his newly broken-through cultivation level!

"Hahaha! I've broken through!"

Half an hour later, Shi Shaojian jumped up from the futon and ran towards the door.

He pushed open the door and saw Shi Jian and Lin Bei standing there. He paused for a moment, then laughed even harder.

"Master! I've broken through to the Taoist realm!" Shi Shaojian patted his chest, beaming with pride.

Shi Jian looked him up and down, a rare smile appearing on his usually expressionless face.

"Hmm, it's alright."

Shi Shaojian chuckled, "Master, is one alright? I broke through only half a month later than my junior brother!"

Lin Bei rolled his eyes: "You started learning the basics half a year earlier than me, but broke through to the next level half a month later. You still have the nerve to say that?"

"Look at how smug you are!"

"So what? You have a pure Yang body, how dare you compare yourself to me!" Shi Shaojian retorted, sticking his neck out.

"The fact that I broke through half a month later than you already proves that my aptitude isn't bad!"

Shi Jian raised his hand and slapped one of the men on the back of the head.

"Stop making noise, all of you, get inside."

The three entered the main hall. Shi Jian asked Shi Shaojian to sit down, then reached out and placed his hand on Shi Shaojian's wrist to probe the magical power in his dantian.

"One hundred and three strands, just reached the early stage of Daoist cultivation, the realm is not very stable yet." Shi Jian released his hand, "Don't rush to practice new spells these few days, first solidify your realm."

Shi Shaojian nodded: "Understood, Master."

Shih Kin rarely spoke more than once: "Your talent isn't top-notch, but you're good at putting in the effort. On the path of cultivation, talent is important, but perseverance is even more important."

"Lin Bei has a pure Yang Dao body and his talent is far superior to yours, but as long as you don't slack off, you may not be worse than him in the future."

Upon hearing this, Lin Bei felt that Shi Jian was being too polite.

If your talent is far behind, then there's a huge gap, and no matter how hard you try, you can't catch up.
