Zombie World: Starting as an apprentice of the Thunder King
Chapter 124 A Peculiar Literary Talent
Uncle Nine was so angry he had a headache: "That's not magic! That's a storage artifact! Your two senior brothers carry spatial artifacts bestowed by the Maoshan Sect Master; they can store things! You're making a fuss over nothing!"
"A storage artifact?" Wen Cai's eyes widened even more as he leaned closer to take a better look, but Uncle Jiu grabbed him by the back of his collar and pulled him aside.
"Don't get in the way! Go cut up the roast chicken you bought; we'll have it for lunch!"
Wencai responded and reluctantly ran to the kitchen.
Lin Bei looked at Wen Cai's curious expression and couldn't help but laugh. His words had clearly made Uncle Jiu lose face.
However, to be fair, Wencai's cooking skills are quite good. He might even become a chef when he goes out into the world!
Qiu Sheng was kind enough not to go up and touch Lin Bei like Wen Cai did, but he couldn't help but glance at Lin Bei a few more times, a hint of curiosity and envy flashing in his eyes, but he quickly suppressed it and went to the kitchen to help with the yellow wine.
During lunch, Wencai finally couldn't hold back any longer and asked, "Senior Brother Linbei, how much can that storage artifact you mentioned actually hold? Can it hold a whole pig?"
Lin Bei almost spat out his rice: "A pig? It could probably fit, but I've never tried."
"Could that fit a cow in it?"
"Wencai!" Uncle Jiu, provoked again by Wencai's outburst, slammed his chopsticks on the table. "Just eat! Why all the questions!"
Wen Cai shrank back, lowered his head to eat, and muttered to himself, "I was just curious..."
Seeing his expression, Qiu Sheng couldn't help but laugh out loud, but was glared at by Uncle Jiu and quickly stopped laughing and started eating quietly.
Shi Shaojian sat next to Lin Bei, his shoulders shaking from trying to suppress his laughter. Lin Bei kicked him under the table, signaling him to tone it down.
The meal was finished in this awkward atmosphere.
After the meal, Wencai was dragged into the main room by Uncle Jiu to draw talismans. Qiusheng followed along, and the two of them, each with dozens of sheets of yellow paper, hurriedly copied the templates drawn by Uncle Jiu.
Lin Bei and Shi Shaojian sat opposite each other, each drawing their own pictures, occasionally glancing up at the two lively characters opposite them.
Wencai ruined five drawings in a row, and in his anger, he slammed his fist on the table: "Why is this damn thing so hard to draw! Master, are you deliberately making things difficult for me?"
Uncle Nine glanced at him expressionlessly: "If you can draw one, I'll eat this table."
After saying that, he walked towards the courtyard to mix cinnabar and blood ink!
Wen Cai's face turned red as he buried his head and continued drawing. The sixth drawing was finally barely complete. Although it was crooked and looked like a ghost's scribbles, at least a faint glimmer of light could be seen. Even so, it exhausted the last bit of magic power in his body.
Qiu Sheng, on the other hand, was proceeding steadily and had already drawn two Explosive Flame Talismans. Although their power was average, at least they weren't useless.
Shi Shaojian watched for a while, then leaned close to Lin Bei's ear and whispered, "I've never understood why Uncle Jiu would accept Wen Cai as his disciple?"
"Are you feeling a little down?"
Lin Bei's pen didn't stop: "Don't talk nonsense."
I'm serious.
Shi Shaojian glanced at Uncle Nine's retreating figure and continued, "Look, Wencai has been studying literature for at least a few years now, hasn't he?"
"He's only at the early stage of a Taoist novice, and he can't even draw an exorcism talisman properly. If he had this kind of talent in Maoshan, he probably wouldn't even be able to become a menial disciple."
"Everyone has their own destiny."
Lin Bei put down his pen, glanced at him, and said, "My uncle has his reasons for taking Wen Cai as his disciple. We are both juniors, so let's not talk about our elders."
After saying that, he winked at Shi Shaojian. Shi Shaojian followed his gaze and saw Wen Cai grinning foolishly at his crooked and distorted Explosive Flame Talisman, as if he had found money.
Shi Shaojian's lips twitched, and he glanced at Uncle Jiu in the courtyard again, but didn't say anything more.
Although Lin Bei said that, he actually knew in his heart that Wen Cai's aptitude was indeed somewhat lacking.
However, spiritual practice does not always rely entirely on talent; temperament, perseverance, and opportunity are all indispensable.
Although Wencai is not very talented, the fact that he has been able to stay under Uncle Jiu's command for so many years is itself a skill.
After practicing with talismans for an entire afternoon, Qiu Sheng drew five Explosive Flame Talismans, and Wen Cai drew two. Although they were all low-grade talismans with pitifully low power, at least they were usable.
After checking the two men's work, Uncle Nine announced on the spot that they would continue tomorrow.
"Huh? I have to draw again tomorrow?"
Qiu Sheng's face fell, and Wen Cai let out a wail. The two looked at each other and saw two words in each other's eyes: It's over.
Lin Bei watched from the sidelines, amused. He also wanted to ask Uncle Jiu about the space stone. After everyone left, he stayed alone in the main room.
"Uncle-Master, I have something I'd like to ask you."
Uncle Nine was tidying up the leftover yellow paper and ink on the table. Upon hearing this, he didn't stop what he was doing: "Go on, tell me."
"The spatial artifact I possess is a spatial stone bestowed upon me by my grandmaster. It is said to be able to refine treasures with spatial attributes to continuously grow stronger."
"This disciple would like to ask my martial uncle if he knows where there are any treasures with spatial attributes?"
Uncle Nine abruptly stopped what he was doing. He turned around, his gaze towards Lin Bei filled with a complex mix of emotions and surprise: "Your grandmaster gave you the space stone?"
He had thought that his master, True Person Qingwei, had only given him other spatial artifacts, but he never expected it to be this treasure!
Lin Bei nodded: "Yes, the Grandmaster said that this space stone has the potential to grow into a grotto-heaven world in the future."
Uncle Nine remained silent for a long time before slowly sighing, "As expected, the Master still favors you... This spatial stone, your master wanted it back then, your Uncle Four Eyes asked for it, and even your Uncle Xuanji asked for it, but the Master didn't give it to any of them."
Lin Bei was taken aback: "Is this thing that valuable?"
"Valuable?" Uncle Nine shook his head. "Valuable is an understatement. This spatial stone is one of the most precious treasures passed down from the Three Mao Ancestors. It has been personally refined and carried by successive sect leaders. It can continuously grow by fusing natural treasures with spatial attributes. If the opportunity is right, it may really grow into a blessed land."
"The fact that the Master gave you this shows how high his expectations are for you."
Lin Bei touched the shimmering white gem hidden beneath his skin in his right palm and suddenly felt that it had become much heavier.
After thinking for a moment, Uncle Nine said in a deep voice, "Treasures with spatial attributes are extremely rare. I know of two places that have them."
"One place is the Celestial Master's Mansion on Longhu Mountain, which houses a jade stone with spatial attributes. It is said that the Celestial Master Zhang obtained it from the body of a void monster when he was slaying demons."
"Another place is Mount Wutai. They have a string of prayer beads, and each bead contains a trace of spatial power."
"Longhu Mountain and Wutai Mountain?" Lin Bei frowned.
Both of these are prominent sects of their time, with the Celestial Master's Mansion of Longhu Mountain holding a dominant position in the Taoist world. As a junior disciple of Maoshan, he couldn't very well just go up to them and ask for their sect's most prized treasure.
Uncle Nine saw his predicament: "Don't worry, cultivation is about fate. What's meant to be yours will come to you, and what's not meant to be yours can't be forced."
"Just focus on your cultivation. Once your cultivation level improves, opportunities will naturally arise."
Lin Bei nodded, stopped thinking about it, and continued to draw talismans.
Uncle Nine looked at his composed demeanor and a hint of approval flashed in his eyes.
