Zombie World: Starting as an apprentice of the Thunder King
Chapter 113 Night Talk
As night deepened, the group returned to the mortuary late at night.
The mortuary was small. Several coffins were placed in the front yard, supported by long benches and covered with white cloth. Several tables were set up in the yard, with incense burners and offerings. The air was filled with a faint sandalwood scent.
Uncle Jiu arranged for Ren Tingting to stay in a side room in the backyard, and gave her a few more instructions on not to wander around at night before returning to the front yard.
Lin Bei and Shi Shaojian lived in a room on the east side of the front yard. The room was small, with two wooden beds, a table, and the windows covered with a layer of white paper. It was unclear whether this thing could keep out the wind and rain!
"Junior brother, are you alright?" Shi Shaojian sat on the edge of the bed, looking at the bruise on Lin Bei's chest.
"I'm fine!" Lin Bei stretched his shoulders. "Luckily, my physical body has broken through to the mid-stage of the Iron Bone Realm, so it's not easy to injure my bones and muscles. Otherwise, I would have been bedridden for at least half a month."
"That purple zombie is a bit strange; it's much stronger than the monsters I encountered in the secret realm before!"
"That's a Purple Zombie! Even a True Person Realm expert would have a headache dealing with it!"
Shi Shaojian shook his head. "It's already quite good that the two of us managed to beat it so badly. If it hadn't suddenly unleashed its power, we might have been able to take care of it tonight."
"Yes, but that feng shui master is more troublesome." Lin Bei leaned against the headboard, his hands behind his head, staring at the ceiling. "My uncle is right, that person is not simple."
"You're saying he's at the level of a true immortal?"
"At least at the mid-stage of the True Person realm." Lin Bei said confidently, "That Yin energy is very pure, unlike that of an ordinary unorthodox cultivator."
Just as Shi Shaojian was about to speak, there was a knock on the door.
"Brothers, Master invites you to the main room to speak," Qiu Sheng's voice came from outside the door.
Lin Bei and Shi Shaojian exchanged a glance, stood up, left the room, crossed the courtyard, and arrived at the main hall of the mortuary.
An oil lamp was lit in the main room. Uncle Jiu sat in a grand chair with a teapot and several rough porcelain bowls in front of him. Wen Cai stood next to him, looking somewhat uneasy.
"Sit down." Uncle Nine gestured to the two of them.
Lin Bei and Shi Shaojian sat down opposite each other. Qiu Sheng poured a bowl of tea for each of them. The tea had a clear and refreshing aroma, and Lin Bei knew at a glance that it was top-quality Longjing tea.
"Tell me," Uncle Nine said, taking a sip of his tea. "How did you end up here?"
Lin Bei picked up his teacup, took a sip, and then recounted the whole story.
Uncle Nine's expression didn't change much after hearing this, but the corner of his mouth twitched slightly.
These two silly roe deer were clearly outsmarted by their senior brother.
Four Eyes's dojo is deep in the mountains and forests of Guangdong. How could you possibly get there by following the official road?
This road clearly leads to Renjia Town. The eldest brother's idea is for these two to come to him first, and then he will direct them to Simu's dojo.
Uncle Nine understood, but didn't say anything.
He put down his teacup and looked at the two of them: "Since you're here, why don't you stay here for now? Old Master Ren's matter hasn't been resolved yet, so you two can lend a hand."
Lin Bei had this intention. He had long heard that Uncle Jiu's mastery of talismans was extremely high and that he was very famous in the cultivation world. Being able to stay by Uncle Jiu's side for a while would be of great benefit to his learning of talismans.
"Thank you, Martial Uncle." Lin Bei stood up and cupped his hands in greeting. "This disciple will gladly accept your offer."
Shi Shaojian quickly stood up to express his gratitude.
Uncle Nine waved his hand: "No need for formalities. You are the eldest brother's disciples. You should make yourselves at home here."
He then looked at Wencai: "Wencai, go and prepare those two rooms in the west wing for your two senior brothers to stay in."
"Oh!" Wen Cai responded, and as he walked out, he secretly glanced at Lin Bei, his mouth moved as if he wanted to say something but then swallowed it back.
Qiu Sheng was very enthusiastic and took the initiative to lead the two to see the rooms: "Senior brothers, this way. The west wing is a bit bigger than the east wing. There's a bamboo forest right outside the window, and the air is wonderful in the morning."
Lin Bei followed behind him, chatting casually: "Junior Brother Qiusheng, how many years have you been cultivating with your martial uncle?"
"It's been four or five years." Qiu Sheng scratched his head. "But my aptitude is average. I'm only at the late stage of Taoist cultivation now, which is far behind my two senior brothers."
"Take your time, cultivation can't be rushed." Lin Bei patted his shoulder.
Qiu Sheng chuckled and pushed open the door to the west wing. The room was indeed more spacious than the east wing, with two beds neatly made and a pot of orchids on the windowsill.
"Please make do with these two accommodations for now. If you need anything, just let me know."
"Thank you, Junior Brother Qiusheng." Lin Bei smiled.
After Qiu Sheng left, Lin Bei closed the door and sat down on the edge of the bed. Shi Shaojian also sat down on the bed opposite him and stretched.
"Finally, I can get a good night's rest." Shi Shaojian yawned.
Lin Bei did not answer. He sat on the edge of the bed, made hand seals, and began to circulate the Shangqing Great Cave True Scripture.
The purple zombie slapped him on the chest. Although it didn't injure his bones, the bruise was still there and he needed to use his internal energy to dispel it.
As the cultivation technique was activated, a warm surge of magical power emerged from the fake elixir, flowing throughout the body's meridians. The bruises on the chest faded visibly, and the muscles that had been numb from being pounded gradually recovered.
The next morning, Lin Bei woke up after the rooster crowed three times. He stretched his muscles and found that most of the bruises on his chest had disappeared, leaving only a slight soreness.
Pushing open the door, the morning mist in the courtyard had not yet dissipated, and a light mist lingered in the bamboo forest!
Just then, Uncle Nine's voice came from the main room: "You're up? Come in and have a bowl of porridge."
Lin Bei walked into the main room, where Uncle Jiu was already sitting at the table with a bowl of white porridge, a dish of pickled vegetables, and two steamed buns in front of him. Lin Bei didn't stand on ceremony, sat down, picked up the bowl, and started drinking.
Not long after, Shi Shaojian came in rubbing his eyes, and Qiu Sheng and Wen Cai also came out of their rooms and sat around the table.
The breakfast was eaten quietly and peacefully. After finishing, Uncle Jiu put down his chopsticks and looked at Lin Bei and Shi Shaojian.
"As you all saw last night, that purple zombie has been injured and shouldn't cause trouble again for a while, but it's not that simple."
"The feng shui master..." Lin Bei frowned. If this person is not eliminated, trouble will surely follow!
Uncle Nine nodded: "I've already had someone investigate. Master Ren mentioned before that the feng shui master claimed his surname was Liu and his name was Liu Santong."
"I asked a friend to investigate this person's background, and we should have news soon."
"Until then, none of you should make any rash moves. During the day, you can go out and search for traces of the zombies, and at night you should all return to the mortuary."
Everyone nodded in agreement.
At that moment, footsteps could be heard outside the mortuary.
The gate was pushed open, and Awei strode in with two security guards.
"Uncle Nine! Uncle Nine!" Ah Wei looked around as soon as he entered the door, and only breathed a sigh of relief when he saw Uncle Nine.
Uncle Nine frowned slightly: "Ah Wei? What are you doing here so early in the morning?"
Uncle Nine didn't have much affection for Ah Wei!
He bullies men and women, cheats and swindles, and has no bottom line in his actions. The only reason that Uncle Nine didn't take action against him is that this guy doesn't harbor much resentment!
