Zombie World: Starting as an apprentice of the Thunder King
Chapter 109 What a good disciple he is!
After all this was done, the sky was already beginning to lighten.
Lin Bei stood up, looked at the village where the resentment had dissipated, and let out a long breath.
"Next, we still need to bury these people."
"More than a hundred people, how long will it take for the two of us to finish?" Shi Shaojian asked with a pained expression.
"We have to finish this job no matter when we're busy." Lin Bei glanced at him. "We can't just let them lie there like that, can we?"
"Burial of them is also an act of good karma!"
The two began collecting the bodies from house to house, moving them one by one to an open space outside the village.
Lin Bei used the Demon-Slaying Sword to dig a large pit in the ground, then went to the village to find some wooden planks and nailed together a simple thin coffin.
After working for a full day and night, the two finally managed to bury all the remains of more than a hundred people in the village.
Finally, Lin Bei erected a wooden tablet in front of the new graves and carved a line of words with his sword: "This is the joint burial site of the innocent people of this village. May you all be well in your next life."
Shi Shaojian stood to the side, looking at the brand-new burial mound, and sighed.
"Those damned evil cultivators have harmed so many people... and they've caused me so much suffering too!"
"I destroyed the Ten Thousand Souls Banner, and I've imprisoned the black-robed man's soul in the Soul-Capturing Mirror." Lin Bei patted the bronze mirror at his waist. "When I find a suitable opportunity, I'll send him to the underworld and let the Yin court give him a good interrogation."
Shi Shaojian nodded, then suddenly remembered something: "By the way, junior brother, are there any other vengeful ghosts in that Ten Thousand Souls Banner?"
"Gone, all destroyed by the thunderstorm talisman."
"That's good." Shi Shaojian breathed a sigh of relief. "If a few more had escaped, we would have had to put in a lot of effort to deal with them."
Lin Bei took one last look at the new graves, then turned and walked out of the village.
"Let's go, let's find a place to rest. You should also get your shoulder injury treated."
The two walked along the official road for dozens of miles until they finally found a town and a clinic where Shi Shaojian's wounds were bandaged.
Shi Shaojian sat on the steps outside the clinic, letting the doctor wrap his bandages, muttering to himself, "Junior brother, don't you think we've encountered a bit too many things along the way?"
"The more the better." Lin Bei leaned against the wall next to him, arms crossed. "The more we encounter, the more likely we are to be on the right path."
"Someone has to do the work of slaying demons and monsters. If we don't do it, who will?"
Shi Shaojian thought for a moment, then suddenly smiled and said, "That makes sense."
After bandaging their wounds, the two rested in the town for the night and continued their journey early the next morning, heading towards Master Simu's dojo.
Two days later, it was another scorching midday sun.
The two brothers squatted under a large camphor tree by the official road to enjoy the shade. Lin Bei held a foxtail grass in his hand and idly flicked at an ant nest on the ground.
"Senior brother, how many days have we been walking? Isn't there something wrong with this road?"
Lin Bei finally understood, tossed the foxtail grass aside, and said, "No matter what, Uncle-Master Four Eyes is a highly accomplished master. Shouldn't his dojo be located in a beautiful, secluded place?"
"This official road is flanked by farmland, without even a decent hill. How could he possibly build a temple in a rice paddy?"
Shi Shaojian was filling his water pouch when he heard this and spat out a mouthful of water, coughing and choking: "Cough cough...you...you're only realizing it now? I've been thinking about this for two days!"
"Why didn't you say so sooner?" Lin Bei's eyes widened.
"I figured you knew what you were doing!" Shi Shaojian said innocently. "You were so confident the whole way, and didn't you say we could get there by following the official road?"
Lin Bei's lips twitched, and he snatched the water pouch away: "I... I trusted Master! Master wouldn't betray us, would he?"
"Perhaps Master Four Eyes's dojo is nearby. Let's walk around and see!"
The two walked for another hour, and then it got completely dark. The official road turned into a dirt road that could only accommodate one person at a time.
On both sides were dense, dark forests, the leaves rustling in the wind, and the occasional calls of unknown birds and beasts.
Shi Shaojian felt a chill run down his spine: "Junior brother, why is this place getting more and more creepy? Could another zombie jump out?"
"What are you afraid of? I'm here." Lin Bei took out the Demon-Slaying Sword and walked ahead to clear the way.
After walking for a while, the two finally stopped in an open space.
Lin Bei looked around and saw no sign of any Taoist temple nearby, only an endless dense forest and an increasingly dark sky.
"Um... what do we do now?"
Shi Shaojian plopped down on the ground and patted the grass beside him: "What else can we do? Let's rest for the night and talk about it tomorrow."
The two had no choice but to camp in the wild. Lin Bei gathered some dry firewood to start a fire, and then took out two pieces of dry food from his spatial stone, and each of them ate one.
The flickering firelight cast long shadows of the two men.
"Junior brother," Shi Shaojian suddenly spoke.
"Um?"
"Honestly, I envy your lightning technique. That man in black robes was completely helpless against it."
"I wish I could cultivate thunder magic!" Shi Shaojian's words were full of envy.
"That's right, don't you know who I am?" Lin Bei chewed his dry rations smugly. "But you've also made great progress. Your wooden stake technique is getting more and more proficient, and you're cooperating with me quite well."
"As for lightning magic, you don't need to worry about it. There are plenty of advanced spells from Maoshan, why get hung up on this one?"
"You're right!" Shi Shaojian nodded in agreement. "Next time we return to Maoshan, we must learn some powerful spells to make our master proud!"
Upon hearing this, Lin Beiren couldn't help but give Shi Shaojian a thumbs up. He truly is a good disciple of his master!
"Since we're just killing time anyway, why don't we have a little sparring?" Lin Bei suddenly put down his dry rations and stood up.
Shi Shaojian's eyes lit up: "Great! I was just thinking of trying out those new moves I learned."
The two stood on the open ground beside the fire, about three zhang apart.
Lin Bei drew the Demon-Slaying Sword, its blade gleaming coldly in the firelight. Shi Shaojian also took out the Demon-Slaying Sword from his storage bag, and then took out the Bagua Mirror.
"Come on!" Lin Bei shouted, stepping on the Yu Step, and rushed towards Shi Shaojian in a flash.
"Breaking evil!"
The sword tip, carrying a sharp sword aura, pierced straight at Shi Shaojian. Shi Shaojian was prepared and dodged to the side, simultaneously swinging his sword to block.
"Eight Trigrams Swordplay, First Form: Opening the Heavenly Gate!"
The two swords clashed together with a crisp sound, sparks flying everywhere. Shi Shaojian was jolted back two steps, but Lin Bei took advantage of the momentum to step forward, unleashing a continuous barrage of sword moves.
"Senior brother, keep your lower body steady, try again!"
With a horizontal slash, Shi Shaojian had no choice but to raise the Demon-Slaying Sword again to block. There was another crisp sound, and this time he took three steps back.
"level off hilltops!"
Seeing the Demon-Slaying Sword hurtling towards him, Shi Shaojian rolled to the side, barely dodging the sword. He then quickly stood up and took out a talisman from his pocket.
"Lord Laozi, by your command, dispel the evil spirits!"
