Lu Jingxiu took a shower and threw himself into the soft bed.

I picked up my phone, sent my parents a short message: "Safe and sound, arrived home, don't worry," then put the phone on silent and tossed it onto the bedside table.

The screen lit up briefly, displaying dozens of unread messages.

Some were classmates, some were friends, and some might have even come to inquire after seeing the news. He glanced at it, too lazy to click, turned over, and closed his eyes.

go to bed.

The next morning, Lu Jingxiu was woken up by his phone alarm. After washing up, he ordered two KFC breakfast sets using a mobile app, then, carrying the still-warm paper bags, went to the door next door and rang the doorbell.

After a few seconds, the door opened.

Lin Yutang stood behind the door.

She didn't wear the dirty white dress from yesterday; instead, she wore a cream-colored casual dress that she had just bought yesterday and that had already been washed and dried.

The fabric is soft and drapey, and the cut is perfect, accentuating a slender waistline and curves. The hem falls just to the knee, revealing a glimpse of long, shapely calves.

Lin Yutang's long hair was not tied up like yesterday, but was instead softly draped over her shoulders, with a natural curve at the ends.

Her skin was clean and radiant, her eyelashes were long, and her cheeks had a faint blush.

She's so beautiful even without makeup, Lu Jingxiu is actually looking forward to seeing what she'll look like with makeup on.

Upon seeing Lu Jingxiu, she smiled faintly, her eyes crinkling.

"Good morning, how did you sleep last night?" Lu Jingxiu walked in carrying a paper bag.

Lin Yutang stepped aside, a faint smile playing on her lips: "Actually... I didn't sleep well."

She closed the door and followed Lu Jingxiu to the restaurant: "It just feels unreal. Lying in bed, looking at the ceiling, I always feel like I'll be back in that place when I open my eyes."

"The feeling of freedom feels a little unreal," she added softly, her tone tinged with self-deprecation.

Lu Jingxiu took the breakfast out of the paper bag, smiled upon hearing this, and said nothing.

The two sat down at the dining table.

Lin Yutang ate her breakfast in small bites, hesitated for a moment, then looked up at him: "Are you... going to school today?"

"Yes," Lu Jingxiu nodded, "I have class this morning."

Lin Yutang said "Oh," lowered her head, and stirred the soy milk in her cup with a straw.

She hesitated, wanting to speak but stopping herself, then paused to think, organizing her thoughts...

Lu Jingxiu glanced at her: "What's wrong? Speak your mind."

Lin Yutang's face flushed slightly.

She lowered her eyes, looking at the cup of soy milk in front of her, her voice much softer than before: "I was just thinking... maybe you shouldn't move out."

Before Lu Jingxiu could ask why, she continued, speaking rather quickly, as if afraid of being interrupted:

"I'm just a little scared, afraid that Trish's people will come back, afraid that someone will knock on the door in the middle of the night. I live here alone, and I still... I start to overthink things... I know it sounds dramatic, but..."

She didn't finish speaking, but instead rubbed the hem of her skirt back and forth with her hand.

Lu Jingxiu's gaze inadvertently swept across the other side. Lin Yutang's movement caused her skirt to rise slightly, revealing glimpses of her thighs, so beautiful that it was hard to look away.

He was silent for a moment, then said to himself:

It's absolutely not because I want to live with such a beautiful woman, absolutely not. It's to make her feel safe. After all, she just escaped from danger and needs a psychological adjustment period. Yes, that's it.

"Alright," he said, sounding a little reluctant, "then I won't move for now. We'll talk about it again when you feel safe."

Lin Yutang visibly breathed a sigh of relief when she heard him agree.

She did feel insecure. In this unfamiliar city, the only person she trusted was the boy in front of her who had been helping her from the very beginning.

However, the thought of living under the same roof as a boy made her cheeks flush slightly.

Lu Jingxiu didn't notice the subtle change in her expression. He continued eating while picking up his phone and starting to look through the messages that had piled up from last night.

Most of the messages were trivial chatter or gossip, which he quickly scrolled through until he saw a message his father had sent that morning.

He glanced at the contents, raised an eyebrow, then looked up and casually said to Lin Yutang:

"Oh, by the way, I just saw the news. Trissie doesn't have diplomatic immunity, and he's been ordered to leave the country today and is banned from re-entering for five years."

"So, starting today, you can begin your life anew," he said, putting down his phone, looking at Lin Yutang, and smiling. "I'll treat you to dinner tonight to celebrate."

Lin Yutang paused for two seconds, then a happy smile bloomed on her face, her eyes crinkling into crescents: "Thank you, Lu Jingxiu."

Surprisingly, she actually escaped Trish's clutches!

And everything has stabilized...

All of this is because of Lu Jingxiu in front of us.

Lu Jingxiu took a bank card out of his pocket, placed it on the table, and pushed it in front of her: "You can use this card for now. The password is my birthday. I'll send it to you later."

Seeing Lin Yutang's eyes widen instantly and her expression of wanting to refuse, he didn't give her a chance to speak and continued, "Buy some books for the civil service exam, enroll in a class, and buy some daily necessities. Same as always, put it on the tab, and pay me back slowly later."

"You already owe me a ton of money, so this little bit won't make a difference."

Lin Yutang looked at him, her lips moved, but she swallowed back the refusal that was on the tip of her tongue.

She wanted to refuse, but she knew she really needed it. She had almost nothing on her; even the clothes she wore yesterday were bought for her by Lu Jingxiu.

She needs this initial funding.

She carefully put the bank card away, silently telling herself: I won't spend it recklessly, I'll keep a record of every single transaction, and I'll pay it back slowly after I start working.

Lu Jingxiu finished his breakfast in a few bites, stood up, and wiped his hands with a tissue: "The trash can is in the middle of the corridor, with a designated drop-off slot. You can just throw it in directly. Someone comes to clean it every day."

He walked to the door and glanced at Lin Yutang: "Wait for my call tonight."

Before he could finish speaking, a soft "beep" sounded from outside the door, and then the door was pushed open from the outside.

Lu Jingxiu turned around.

There was a girl standing at the door, around twenty years old, about 1.7 meters tall, with good proportions, especially long legs.

She was wearing a simple white short-sleeved T-shirt and light blue denim shorts. The hem of the T-shirt was loosely tucked into the waistband, and the shorts were very short, showing off her long, straight, and well-proportioned legs, exuding youthful energy.

She was also beautiful, with delicate features, big eyes, a high nose, full lips, and long, slightly wavy hair.

In terms of looks alone, she is definitely a beautiful girl who would turn heads.

However, compared to Lin Yutang, she is still a bit lacking.

She was carrying a small backpack and a carry-on suitcase in her hand.

Lu Jingxiu was stunned for a moment.

It wasn't her looks and legs that stunned me, but rather the memories belonging to the original owner of my mind that surfaced.
