Huayu 2007: Starting with fleecing the "Fairy Sisters"

The call was answered quickly.

"Hello, who is this?"

"Hello Mr. Yu, my name is Wu Wei. I was introduced to you by Jackie Chan."

"Oh—Wu Wei! You're going to record a song, right? Jackie Chan told me about it."

The other person's voice was noticeably warmer: "You're back in Beijing?"

"Yes, I'm back. Mr. Yu, are you available lately?"

"Convenient, of course convenient. Let me check the time. How about you come to my company this Friday?"

"Okay, Mr. Yu."

"I'll send you the address later, and also..."

The two discussed the cost briefly before hanging up.

Wu Wei smiled.

Jackie Chan's influence is indeed very useful.

He looked up Yu Binhan's information online—he used to be the agent for big stars like Andy Lau, Jin Chengwu, and Han Hong, definitely a big shot in the industry.

Later, he went out on his own and founded Leling Culture at the beginning of last year, signing several artists including Zhou Bichang, Xiao Ke, and Wang Zheng.

Being able to collaborate with someone like that already puts him at a significant advantage over most people.

……

On Friday morning, Wu Wei changed into clean and comfortable clothes and took the subway to the building where Leling Culture Company was located.

While waiting for the elevator, he saw a familiar figure walking towards him.

With short hair, black-rimmed glasses, and a simple T-shirt and jeans, he looked cool.

Wu Wei recognized him at a glance—Zhou Bichang.

He liked her the most in the 05 Super Girl competition, and he even voted for her back then.

However, if he had to pick his favorite Super Girl, it would be Zhang Hanyun, the third runner-up from the first season.

The song "Sour and Sweet Is Me" became a hit across the country, mainly because the singer is good-looking and incredibly sweet.

She was in the poster on his room wall.

In his previous life, he had also showered her with a lot of his unreleased adolescent hormones.

Of course, he had painted almost all the female celebrities on that wall.

If we're talking about who has contributed the most... it's Liu Yifei.

The elevator doors opened, and the two of them stepped inside one after the other.

Wu Wei took the initiative to greet her: "Hello, Bibi."

Zhou Bichang turned her head and looked at him with some confusion: "Who are you?"

"My name is Wu Wei, and I'm here to record a song with Mr. Yu."

"Oh, hello." She nodded and didn't ask any further questions.

After the elevator arrived, Wu Wei went to the company's front desk and gave his name.

The receptionist made a phone call, and shortly after, Yu Binhan came out.

He looked to be in his forties, wearing glasses, and had a friendly smile. As soon as he saw Wu Wei, he warmly extended his hand: "Wu Wei, right? Jackie Chan has told me several times that you are a talented young man. I'm so glad to finally meet you today."

Wu Wei was taken aback; he hadn't expected him to be so nice.

It seems that Jackie Chan's influence is even greater than he imagined.

"Hello, Mr. Yu, thank you for your help today."

"No trouble at all."

Yu Binhan turned to look at Zhou Bichang, who was standing curiously to the side: "Bibi is here too, that's perfect, let's go to the recording studio together."

"Okay," Zhou Bichang replied.

Wu Wei looked at Zhou Bichang with some confusion: "Wasn't this recorded at the company?"

Zhou Bichang explained, "Our company is relatively small, with only one small recording studio, mainly used for auditioning, melody revisions, and recording demos. For formal recording, we need to rent a professional studio outside, which is also more cost-effective."

"Oh, I understand."

Wu Wei nodded and asked, "Are you going to record a new album?"

"right."

Zhou Bichang nodded: "We've been recording for over two months now. There are quite a few songs on the new album, and we still haven't finished recording them all."

Wu Wei remembered that Zhou Bichang's new album this year was a twin album.

They released two albums on the same day, each with ten songs, for a total of twenty songs.

No one in the Chinese music scene had ever done this before, so he remembered it quite well.

However, as far as I can remember, neither of these albums was very successful.

"By the way," Yu Binhan asked Wu Wei with a smile, "how many songs are you recording this time?"

Three poems.

"Did you write both the lyrics and the music yourself?"

"Yes, all of them. I also arranged the music."

Yu Binhan's eyes lit up: "Then I'll have to listen carefully later."

……

As they talked, they walked out, got into a car, and drove to the nearby Lejiaxuan Music Production Base.

Upon arriving at the destination, Wu Wei immediately spotted a familiar figure—Liang Qiaobo.

Anyone who has watched "I Am a Singer" should know him.

He was the main producer of Zhou Bichang's two albums.

Yu Binhan immediately stepped forward to greet him.

After exchanging pleasantries, Liang Qiaobo's gaze fell on Wu Wei: "And this is?"

"Oh, this is Wu Wei, introduced by Jackie Chan."

Yu Binhan explained, "He wrote two songs for my brother on the set of 'The Forbidden Kingdom,' and my brother liked them very much. He specifically asked me to help him produce a few songs."

When Liang Qiaobo heard that he could write songs, he immediately became interested: "You can write songs?"

"Yes." Wu Wei nodded without any hesitation.

"He wrote, composed, and arranged all three songs himself," Yu Binhan added from the side.

Liang Qiaobo raised an eyebrow: "Do you have the lyrics and music prepared? Can I take a look?"

"sure."

Wu Wei took out the printed lyrics and music from his bag and handed them over.

Liang Qiaobo reached out and took it, and Yu Binhan and Zhou Bichang curiously leaned over.

The three of them first watched "People Like Me".

"Someone as outstanding as me should have lived a brilliant life..."

Liang Qiaobo read a few lines aloud and nodded: "The lyrics are quite inspired."

Yu Binhan echoed, "Young people should really resonate with this."

Then he turned to "What's Wrong With It?"

"The sky longs for rain, I wish I could live next door to you..."

Zhou Bichang couldn't help but laugh: "This song is a bit sweet, it has the feel of a little love song."

Liang Qiaobo nodded in agreement: "The melody is catchy and easy to remember. If the arrangement is done well, it should be quite easy to become a hit."

Then they turned to the last song.

Mercury.

How much further must I go before I can enter your heart...?

"How much longer until I can get closer to you..."

Liang Qiaobo's expression gradually turned serious.

Yu Binhan fell silent, tapping his fingers lightly on his knees.

As Zhou Bichang watched, she hummed the tune in her mind. When she got to the chorus, she stopped in surprise.

This song is so delicate and sophisticated.

That sense of distance, of "wanting to get close but never being able to," is written with both precision and restraint.

The three people looked up at Wu Wei, and their expressions were all different.

"This song..."

Liang Qiaobo carefully considered his words: "Did you really write this yourself?"

"Um."

"Is there a demo?"

"some."

"Come on, go play it for me right away."

Leung Kiu-po has completely forgotten about recording a song for Zhou Bichang; his mind is filled with the song "Mercury".

Yu Binhan and Zhou Bichang felt similarly.

"We've rented booth number 7, let's go inside and listen together."

As Yu Binhan spoke, he led the group toward Shed No. 7.
