Chapter 11 Rescuing People at the Crossroads: A Martial Arts Master?
Lin Ze left home around 9 a.m.
He had three gold ornaments in his pocket, wrapped in two layers of old cloth, and stuffed inside his canvas bag.
He plans to first find a reliable gold shop to cash in his gold, and then contact a real estate agent to look at houses.
The old alleyway connects to a main road, and even though the morning rush hour had just passed, the traffic was still quite heavy.
Breakfast carts were set up by the roadside, and the steam from soy milk and fried dough sticks wafted far and wide. Several office workers squatted by the roadside eating steamed buns.
Lin Ze had just reached the zebra crossing when he heard children laughing behind him.
He glanced at it sideways.
A little girl in a pink dress, about four or five years old, was chasing an orange ball towards the road.
Her mother called after her, still carrying her bag, chasing after her so fast that her high heels twisted and she slowed down by half a step.
Just then, a fully loaded van came rushing from the intersection.
The screech of the brakes was ear-piercing, and the tires left two black marks on the asphalt, emitting white smoke.
The driver leaned out and shouted, his face pale, but the truck was heavily loaded and the road was slippery in the rain, so he couldn't brake in time.
It only takes about a second.
The people around froze, some covered their mouths, and some gasped in surprise.
The little girl stood in the middle of the road, clutching her ball, terrified. She even forgot to cry, and watched as the truck was about to hit her.
Lin Ze moved almost instinctively.
Before he could even react, the wisp of fighting spirit in his dantian instantly circulated throughout his body, and the muscles in his legs tensed up abruptly.
The next second, he shot out like an arrow.
To onlookers, it was just a blur; a shadow flashed by, too fast to see clearly.
Lin Ze rushed to the little girl's side, put his arm around her waist, and pulled her back into his arms to protect her.
He instinctively reached forward with his other hand to block, and it hit the truck's protruding rearview mirror.
With a loud "clang".
The rearview mirror was knocked askew, and the metal pole was bent at an obtuse angle.
Lin Ze used the impact to take two steps back, his feet firmly planted on the ground, the rubber soles of his shoes leaving two black marks on the road. He didn't regain his balance until he reached the steps by the roadside.
The little girl in his arms was protected very well, not even a hair on her head was touched.
The truck slid another ten meters or so before finally coming to a stop.
The driver jumped out, his legs were weak, and he gasped for breath, leaning against the car door, his face as white as a sheet.
There was a deathly silence for two seconds.
Then it exploded.
"Holy crap! What's going on?"
"That speed just now...did someone fly there?"
"Holy crap, I filmed it! Look at that! Is this even humanly possible?"
"Is the child alright? My goodness, that scared me to death!"
Several passersby gathered around, chattering amongst themselves, their eyes fixed on Lin Ze as if he were some rare and precious thing.
Someone was holding up a phone, the camera pointed at him, and their fingers were rapidly pressing the record button.
Lin Ze ignored the others and looked down at the little girl in his arms.
The little girl opened her big, round eyes, didn't cry, but looked at him with admiration, her little hands clutching the hem of his T-shirt.
"Uncle," she said softly, with a touch of childishness, "are you a martial arts master?"
Lin Ze was stunned for a moment, then couldn't help but laugh.
He put the child down and reached out to touch the top of her head; her hair was soft.
"He's not some kind of martial arts master."
"You're lying!" the little girl wrinkled her nose, looking very serious.
"My grandma says martial arts masters can fly! You just flew! Do you know the Eighteen Subduing Dragon Palms? And the Nine Yang Divine Skill!"
The people around burst into laughter, and the atmosphere relaxed considerably.
Just as Lin Ze was about to say something, the child's mother stumbled over, her heels askew and her hair disheveled.
She hugged her daughter tightly, checked her all over to make sure she wasn't hurt, and tears immediately streamed down her face.
"Duoduo! You scared your mother to death!"
She held the child for a couple of seconds before turning around to face Lin Ze and bowing deeply.
The woman was very beautiful, with a gentle demeanor, tears welling in her eyes, and her voice was trembling.
"Sir, thank you so much. Thank you so much. If anything happens to Duoduo, I..."
As she spoke, she reached for her phone.
"Sir, please leave your contact information and I will transfer the money to you."
Don't worry, I'll cover all the medical and nutritional expenses, no matter how much. And...
"No need," Lin Ze interrupted her, waving his hand.
"As long as the child is alright, that's all that matters. No need for money."
His block just now looked dangerous, but he was actually protected by his battle aura. His arm only went numb for a moment, and the skin wasn't even broken.
My T-shirt sleeve was torn, but my skin is perfectly fine.
The woman wanted to say something more, but Lin Ze didn't give her a chance. He took out his phone from his pocket.
"You can leave your contact information so I can help you if your child feels unwell later. Don't mention money."
He's not some saint; it was just something he did on a whim. Taking money from others only makes him look bad.
After adding her on WeChat, Lin Ze learned that the woman's name was Su Ziqing, and her contact name was "Ms. Su".
"Sir, you must let me treat you to a meal, right?" Su Ziqing said sincerely, holding her child.
"Consider this my way of thanking you, otherwise I'd feel bad about it."
"No, thank you," Lin Ze smiled and pointed to the other side of the intersection.
"I have to go now. You take the child home and keep a close eye on her in the future, don't let her run into the road."
After saying that, he bent down and ruffled the little girl's hair. "Little girl, you can't chase a ball across the road anymore, it's dangerous."
Duoduo nodded vigorously, her little hands clutching the hem of his clothes. "Uncle, what's your name? Can I still play with you in the future?"
Just call me Lin Ze.
Lin Ze withdrew his hand, nodded to the mother and daughter, and turned to leave.
She could still hear Su Wanqing's voice behind her, telling Duoduo to thank her uncle.
People around him were still talking and marveling, taking pictures of his back with their phones.
Lin Ze didn't stop walking, but his heart wasn't as calm as it appeared.
He looked down at his arm.
The sleeve was torn, but the skin was perfectly fine.
That impact was quite strong; in the past, it would have at least resulted in a fracture.
I just felt a little numb, but I'm fine now.
The effect of enhancing his physical body with battle qi was even stronger than he had expected.
I used to practice by myself in my rented room, without any reference points.
Today, when something really happened, I truly realized that I am no longer an ordinary person.
He didn't take the video taken by a passerby seriously.
These days, people film everything that happens on the street, but in a couple of days, nobody remembers it.
It's nothing more than something circulating in local groups, with people discussing the "folk master" for a bit, and then forgetting about it.
Lin Ze, carrying his canvas bag, continued walking towards the jewelry store.
What he didn't know was that the ten-second video taken by the passerby had already been shared in local chat groups and short video platforms.
The titles are all incredibly sensational.

A real-life martial arts master? That reaction speed is incredible!
The comments section is already buzzing with arguments.
"Is this fake? Staged? Can a person run that fast?"
"Are you blind upstairs? Didn't you see the truck's brakes were smoking? Are you posing for a photo and risking your life?"
"Holy crap, I was there! Seriously! They were gone in the blink of an eye, I didn't even see how they moved!"
"Could this person be a trained martial artist? Like, someone who uses internal martial arts?"
"Hilarious! Internal martial arts? Why not just call it the Eighteen Subduing Dragon Palms? I think it's just a coincidence that he ran fast."
"Just a coincidence? You try being a coincidence yourself! The truck's side mirror was bent, and the person was completely unharmed. You try hitting one and see what happens!"
"Does anyone know this guy? Could I get his contact information? I want to learn martial arts!"
The video's popularity rose rapidly, and local traffic gradually increased.
Lin Ze, the person involved, had just entered the gold shop and was discussing the price of gold buyback with the owner.
