Double-Cut During the War of Resistance: My Wife Came from 1937

"Xia Xia!"

Commander Liu asked Xia Weiwei, "I wonder what kind of bullets these can stop?"

Having fought in numerous battles over the years, including against the Kuomintang and the Japanese, he was familiar with those steel helmets.

Whether it's the Kuomintang's helmet or the Japanese helmet, they can't stop a gun at close range.

Only at a very long distance can it protect against pistols and stray bullets.

In Commander Liu's mind, even if these could stop bullets, they would probably only be able to withstand the Type 38 rifles at best, and wouldn't be able to stop the Maxim machine gun.

Xia Weiwei then introduced: "Sir, among these three products, the GA5 helmet has the worst defense. It can only protect against bullets from pistols and submachine guns, that is, bullets from firearms, as well as stray bullets and shrapnel."

"really!"

Upon hearing Xia Weiwei's words, Commander Liu felt that his guess had been confirmed.

These can only protect against small-caliber, low-power bullets.

"Secondly, there's the GA6 grade boron carbide + PE bulletproof insert!"

Xia Weiwei pointed to the black power strip and said, "Comrade Hongwei and I have seen other people's test videos."

"In that video, this bulletproof plate stopped two 7.62x54mm armor-piercing incendiary rounds from a PKM general-purpose machine gun."

"This bullet is far more powerful than the regular R-type bullet; it can penetrate a 10mm homogeneous steel plate at a range of 300 meters!"

"What did you say?"

Upon hearing Xia Weiwei's words, both Division Commander Liu and Deputy Division Commander Xu were shocked.

According to their understanding, the Type 38 rifle can only penetrate 3-4 millimeters of steel plate.

However, those armor-piercing incendiary rounds are capable of penetrating 10 millimeters of steel plates.

Although it was the first time they had ever heard of this type of bullet, it didn't stop them from understanding how amazing it was.

Most importantly, this seemingly inconspicuous bulletproof plate actually blocked two armor-piercing incendiary rounds.

In other words, with these bulletproof plates, the mortality rate of the Eighth Route Army will decrease.

Since the Red Army period, the cadres of the Eighth Route Army have liked to take the lead in charging into battle, which has resulted in an extremely high casualty rate among grassroots cadres.

Take the 358th Brigade of the 120th Division as an example. In just six months, 16 company-level officers and 26 platoon-level officers were killed in action, and another 56 company and platoon-level officers were injured.

How many company and platoon-level officers are there in a brigade?

For these leaders, the loss of even one grassroots cadre would be heartbreaking.

It's not that they treated officers and ordinary soldiers differently.

The main reason is that the military needs these officers and veterans to have combat effectiveness.

New recruits often need to participate in several battles before they can become combat-ready veterans.

Xia Weiwei continued, "The most powerful one is this handheld bulletproof shield. It can stop more bullets than bulletproof plates, but it can still be damaged!"

Deputy Division Commander Xu said enthusiastically, "Let's go out and give it a try!"

Immediately, the three of them, wearing bulletproof helmets, bulletproof plates, and handheld bulletproof shields, came out of the house.

Stepping out of the courtyard, Commander Liu said to his bodyguard Zhang Xixuan, "Zhang, go find a Type 38 rifle and a Maxim heavy machine gun, and remember to bring the ammunition. Go to the village entrance and find us."

"yes!"

Zhang Xixuan responded and immediately jogged away.

The three of them, carrying bulletproof gear, headed towards the village entrance.

Although there were some guards protecting Xia Weiwei's courtyard.

But all of these guards were armed with flower-shaped weapons.

The bullets for this gun are too weak to be worth testing.

They planned to go straight for Type 38 rifles and Maxim heavy machine guns.

The three didn't wait long at the village entrance before Zhang Xixuan and several soldiers pushed over a Maxim heavy machine gun.

This is a Soviet-made aircraft, with two wheels and a shield.

If it is a domestically produced Maxim heavy machine gun, it only has a tripod and no wheels.

Unless it has been modified.

On Zhang Xixuan's shoulder hung a Type 38 rifle.

"Sir, we've brought it over!"

Zhang Xixuan stepped forward, took off the Type 38 rifle apron, and handed it to Deputy Division Commander Xu.

Deputy Division Commander Xu asked, "Did you bring ammunition?"

"I brought it!"

Zhang Xixuan nodded and handed over the bullets.

"good!"

Deputy Division Commander Xu took the bullets and installed them into the Type 38 rifle's rifle case.

Zhang Xixuan asked curiously, "Commander, what are you doing?"

At this moment, Commander Liu placed the bulletproof helmet there, moved a distance away, and aimed his pistol at the helmet.

"Bang! Bang!"

Commander Liu pulled the trigger, hitting the helmet.

Then, he quickly stepped forward to check.

One of the bullets hit the front of the helmet, denting it and only chipping off some paint.

Upon inspection, there was only a slight bulge inside; the helmet had not been pierced.

The other bullet landed next to the helmet, and its power was even weaker.

The bullet didn't even dent the helmet; it only grazed the skin.

"Wow, it really can stop handgun bullets!"

Commander Liu walked over with the helmet in his hand, muttering, "I wonder what material this is made of, it's so powerful."

According to his understanding, steel defense should be better.

But the bulletproof helmet that Xia Weiwei brought wasn't made of steel at all; it was even more effective at protecting against bullets than the Japanese helmet.

He was already looking forward to testing the bulletproof inserts.

"Can it really stop bullets?"

Deputy Division Commander Xu said with a smile, "How about we try out the Type 38 rifle?"

"Never mind!"

Commander Liu looked at the dented helmet in his hand and shook his head, saying, "Weiwei said this helmet can't stop a rifle. By testing it like this, aren't you going to damage it?"

"How can it be used if it's damaged? It's just dented now, not a big problem, it can still be used for now!"

"Alright!"

Deputy Division Commander Xu nodded and said, "In that case, I'll proceed directly to testing the bulletproof inserts!"

As he spoke, he ordered the guard, "Xiao Zhang, take this bulletproof plate and lean it upright against that big tree at the village entrance."

"Sir, are you going to use a Type 38 rifle and a Maxim machine gun to shoot this?"

Bodyguard Zhang Xixuan asked, "Can this withstand it?"

"hehe!"

Deputy Division Commander Xu chuckled and said, "Little Zhang, how about we make a bet?"

"What are we betting on?"

Zhang Xixuan asked.

"Let's bet on whether this thing can stop a bullet!"

Deputy Division Commander Xu said, "If I beat you, you'll give me a month's allowance; if you beat me, I'll give you a month's allowance."

"What do you think?"

Zhang Xixuan picked up the bulletproof plate and found that it wasn't particularly heavy. He tapped it and, judging from the sound, it was clearly not made of metal.

Zhang Xixuan thought for a moment, gritted his teeth, and replied, "Commander, I'll take the bet!"

If he wins, he will receive a subsidy of 5 yuan.
