When Jiang Yi woke up from his nightmare, his T-shirt was soaked with cold sweat.

He was panting heavily, his chest aching as if he had been stabbed.

The spot where Su Xiaoyue stabbed him in the dream was now throbbing, as if his heart was about to burst out of his ribs.

The interrogation room was still brightly lit, and the red indicator light of the camera in the corner was flashing like a tireless eye.

He was still in that fixed plastic chair, his hands resting on his knees, his knuckles white from the effort.

This nightmare was completely different from the last one.

For a period of time before this dream, I was experiencing my own summer sleep.

In the dream, there was absolutely no such thing as him having an affair with Su Xiaoyue.

After graduating from university, he married Xia Anmian and had a wonderful family.

The couple also has a daughter.

When I got home from work, Anmian was staring at me with her eyes crinkled in a smile.

He helped himself take off his clothes, and then his daughter ran over, hugged him, and called him "Daddy."

She sat down at the dining table with her daughter in her arms, and the table was filled with her favorite dishes.

The couple looked at each other and then smiled at the same time.

Seeing that she was tired, Xia Anmian deliberately started talking about her school days.

"Honey, do you remember our junior year of college? That was the first time we met in person!"

Upon hearing this, Jiang Yi in his dream was stunned.

She stiffly turned her head away; her daughter had already disappeared from her sight.

The woman still looked at herself with her eyes crinkled in a smile.

only.

Xia Anmian, who should have been next to him, turned out to be Su Xiaoyue.

"Honey, why are you looking at me like that?"

"Honey, eat up!"

Su Xiaoyue picked up some food for Jiang Yi with some confusion.

Jiang Yi swallowed hard.

Looking at that piece of braised pork.

I've already eaten half of it, but now I have absolutely no appetite.

"Honey, why aren't you eating?"

Suddenly, Jiang Yi felt a darkness before his eyes as the light was blocked.

Before anyone knew it, Su Xiaoyue had already stepped in front of him, laughing maniacally.

"I understand, I understand."

"Honey, are you still thinking about that woman?"

"Husband, she's dead, she's dead!"

"It's me who's with you!"

"It's me!"

Su Xiaoyue roared as she grabbed Jiang Yi's hand.

With that force, Jiang Yi and the chair both fell over.

He felt a sudden darkness before his eyes, and then he woke up from the dream.

……

Jiang Yi buried his face in his hands and rubbed them together vigorously.

My skin was as dry as sandpaper, and my eyes felt sore as if they were filled with two hot pebbles.

He had lost track of what time it was.

Early morning? Late at night? Or has he been sitting here all day?

The sound of the door hinges turning.

Jiang Yi looked up and saw Zhao Hanting walk in carrying two glasses of water, his posture as casual as if he were strolling in his own living room.

He placed one of the glasses of water on the table in front of Jiang Yi. The glass made a crisp sound as it hit the metal table, echoing twice in the quiet interrogation room.

Then Zhao Hanting pulled over the chair opposite him, sat down backwards, put his arms on the back of the chair, rested his chin on his arms, and looked at Jiang Yi with the eyes of someone looking at a rare animal in a zoo.

"Awake?" His tone carried a subtle undertone, as if he was suppressing a laugh. "Had a nightmare? You were screaming so loudly, I could hear you in the hallway."

Jiang Yi did not respond.

He picked up the glass of water and took a sip.

The water was cold, with a faint bleach smell from tap water, but it did relieve the burning dryness in my throat.

Zhao Hanting wasn't in a hurry. He just leaned on the back of the chair and watched Jiang Yi drink water, his gaze sweeping over Jiang Yi's face several times.

"Jiang Yi."

He finally spoke, his tone still casual, but beneath that casualness lay a subtle sharpness.

"Tsinghua or Peking University, Computer Science Department, third year. Ranked in the top 30% of the department."

"You said that before."

Jiang Yi's voice was hoarse, like sandpaper scraping against glass.

"Did I say that?" Zhao Hanting tilted his head. "Oh, right, I did. But the more I thought about it after I said it, the more interesting it seemed. Do you know why?"

Jiang Yi remained silent.

"Because you, from any angle, don't seem like the kind of person who would do something like this."

Zhao Hanting stretched out his fingers and counted them one by one.

"Good grades, good school, not bad looking, and also—"

He paused for a moment, then a meaningful smile curved his lips. "Well, and I also have a formidable girlfriend."

Jiang Yi's fingers tightened slightly on the cup.

"Logically speaking, with your qualifications, if you study diligently, graduate, and find a job, your life shouldn't be too bad."

Zhao Hanting pulled his arm back from the chair back, leaned back, and crossed his legs.

"But you insist on doing things the unconventional way, getting involved in online dating, and with several at once. What are you after? The thrill?"

"I didn't have an online relationship."

Jiang Yi's voice was very flat, so flat that it showed almost no emotional fluctuation.

"I've already said it, I didn't do those things."

Zhao Hanting raised an eyebrow, his expression clearly saying, "Go on, I'm listening."

"The account is mine, the photos are mine, but the person chatting with those people isn't me, and the person receiving the money isn't me either. It's my sister, Jiang Miaomiao."

Jiang Yi's voice remained calm as he spoke, but his hands were trembling.

That trembling wasn't from fear, but from a deeper, bone-deep weariness and powerlessness.

Zhao Hanting did not show that expression.

He simply looked at Jiang Yi, silently for two seconds.

Those eyes were filled with disdain.

"Your sister?" Zhao Hanting repeated the word, as if savoring its weight, "Jiang Miaomiao?"

"right."

"Kyoto Women's University, third-year student, born on the same day, month, and year as you?"

"Have you investigated her?"

Zhao Hanting did not answer the question. Instead, he changed his posture, leaned forward, and placed his hands on the table, his gaze fixed on Jiang Yi's face.

"You just said you didn't do those things. Okay, I'll ask you a few questions."

Jiang Yi looked at him and waited.

"First, did you know that your sister was using your photos to find a boyfriend online?"

"I didn't know at first, but I found out later."

"When did it happen next?"

Jiang Yi was silent for two seconds. "When all the money is gone."

Zhao Hanting's eyebrows twitched. "One million three hundred thousand, and you only realized it was all gone?"

"Yes."

Don't you think this statement is a bit unreasonable?

"I know it's unreasonable," Jiang Yi's voice finally cracked slightly, "but it's the truth. There's nothing I can do if you don't believe me."

Zhao Hanting stared at him for a few seconds, then looked away and leaned back in his chair.

"Second question," he said calmly, "You picked up Su Xiaoyue from the airport, hugged her, and said a few words to her. Did you do that?"

Jiang Yi closed his eyes briefly. "Yes."

Why?

"My sister begged me. She said Su Xiaoyue was coming to meet her, and if she didn't see her, the other party would become suspicious and investigate, and she wouldn't be able to go to jail."

"So you went and lied for her?"

"I didn't mean to lie to her."

"Even if you didn't do it, you knew about it, yet you still insisted on helping her. What kind of behavior is that?"

Zhao Hanting spoke slowly, but he enunciated each word clearly.

Jiang Yi opened his mouth as if to say something, but in the end he said nothing.

He knew that they were accomplices.

This is also something he doesn't know how to explain to Xia Anmian.
