Sun Miaomiao almost choked on the half-chewed crumb of biscuit in her mouth. It was stuck in her throat and she instinctively stretched her neck to swallow it, choking and patting her chest.

"Cough cough—cough! What did you say? Brother-in-law's here? Here to see the boss?"

She suddenly leaned forward halfway, her gaze passing over Zhao Hanting's shoulder, through the automatic glass door, and landing on the two figures at the entrance.

She saw it.

Jiang Yi stood next to the gray stone tablet at the entrance of the science park, the morning light shining from behind him, casting a long shadow.

A woman stood next to him, wearing a light beige trench coat, with a low ponytail and a slender figure, and was turning her head to talk to him.

Sun Miaomiao's gaze lingered on Jiang Yi's face for a moment, then quickly shifted to the woman next to him. With just one glance, her pupils contracted.

She had seen this face before.

I've seen her in the system, on the boss's computer screen, and in that "traffic accident simulation" program that was almost executed—Su Xiaoyue.

Sun Miaomiao's breathing suddenly stopped.

Why is she here?

How dare she come?

How dare she show her face?

She recalled the boss's state that night, the bone-chilling silence of Xia Anmian sitting in her office staring at the surveillance footage, and the "destruction program" that almost made her pull the power switch on the entire floor.

Everything is because of the woman in front of me.

Zhao Hanting squatted down next to the guardhouse, looking at her expression. He took out the piece of chewing gum that Sun Miaomiao had just thrown to him from his pocket, slowly unwrapped it, popped it into his mouth, and mumbled something indistinctly:

"Tsk, this is going to be interesting."

Sun Miaomiao ignored him, shoved the cup of coffee in her hand into Zhao Hanting's hand with such force that it was like stuffing a bag of garbage in, and then quickly went out to greet him.

As she pushed open the glass door and walked out, Jiang Yi happened to be standing at the bottom of the steps in front of the building.

He saw her, paused slightly, and then nodded to her: "Good morning, Sun Miaomiao."

Sun Miaomiao stood on the steps, her hands in her hoodie pockets, her gaze sweeping from Jiang Yi's face to Su Xiaoyue's face next to him, and then back to Jiang Yi's face, her cheeks slightly puffed out.

"What are you doing here?" Her tone was curt, carrying the grumpiness of someone who hadn't had enough sleep and the annoyance of having their good mood ruined.

Jiang Yi didn't beat around the bush: "I'm looking for Xia Anmian."

Sun Miaomiao's eyelids twitched: "Why are you looking for the boss?"

"There are some things I want to clarify."

Sun Miaomiao's gaze lingered on his face for two seconds before shifting to Su Xiaoyue beside him, her tone now tinged with wariness: "She's going too?"

Standing next to Jiang Yi, Su Xiaoyue heard this and slightly curved the corners of her mouth, a very faint smile carrying just the right amount of politeness: "Hello, classmate. I came with him, and I mean no harm."

Sun Miaomiao stared at her for about two seconds, her mind racing.

No malicious intent?

The person who said that last time is already at the police station.

Sun Miaomiao thought to herself, but didn't say it aloud.

She glanced at Su Xiaoyue's face, which looked exceptionally gentle in the morning light, then at Jiang Yi standing beside her, and recalled the light in the boss's office that had been on until 2 a.m. last night. She had already made up her mind.

She cleared her throat, her tone hardening as if cement had been poured into it:

"Sorry, Su Xiaoyue, we only accept staff and employees of our studio; we don't accept family members. Officer, see them out."

As she spoke, she turned her head slightly and called out in the direction of the guardhouse.

When Zhao Hanting was called out, he peeked out from the shadows next to the guardhouse, a semi-transparent bubble popping out of his chewing gum and sticking to his lips.

He paused for a moment, then slowly stood up, fiddled with the brim of his hat, and gave a "I was forced into this" look: "Um...why don't you go back first?"

Su Xiaoyue stood still, her gaze passing over Sun Miaomiao's shoulder and looking at the top floor of the gray building.

She didn't say anything, but she also showed no intention of leaving.

Jiang Yi took half a step forward, slightly turning to block Su Xiaoyue, and looked at Sun Miaomiao:

"Sun Miaomiao, I know this is a bit presumptuous. But this matter is very important to me, and I must see her."

Sun Miaomiao looked at him, her lips pressed into a thin line, her fingers unconsciously clenching in her hoodie pocket.

She recalled Xia Anmian's absent-minded state every day.

This man was, after all, her boss's first man, and she figured her boss would want to see her too.

In truth, she wanted her boss and Jiang Yi to reconcile, so that she wouldn't have to prepare for the company's IPO.

Then you won't have to work so hard.

Sun Miaomiao was silent for several seconds, then, as if she had made a decision, she took her hand out of her pocket and beckoned to Jiang Yi with her finger: "You, come in with me. She—" She gestured with her chin towards Su Xiaoyue, "wait outside."

Su Xiaoyue's eyelashes twitched.

Jiang Yi turned his head to look at her.

Su Xiaoyue's gaze lingered on his face for a moment, then she nodded, her voice soft: "Go ahead. I'll wait for you here."

Jiang Yi didn't say much. He lifted his foot and took two steps toward Sun Miaomiao, then stopped and looked back at her.

Su Xiaoyue stood there, the hem of her trench coat fluttering gently in the morning breeze, and smiled at him.

She had already made her stance clear by standing downstairs; forcing her to go in would be pushing her luck.

She didn't believe that giving Jiang Yi and Xia Anmian a chance to chat would allow them to get back together.

Do you really think this is a novel?

Jiang Yi turned his head and followed Sun Miaomiao through the automatic glass door.

As the door closed behind him, the morning light refracted into a thin, white ray on the glass surface, separating the outside and inside of the door into two worlds.

Su Xiaoyue stood outside, watching the door close, remained silent for a while, then turned around and sat down on the bench by the door.

Zhao Hanting squatted next to the guardhouse, watching Jiang Yi follow Sun Miaomiao into the building. He then looked at Su Xiaoyue sitting on the bench, chewing on a piece of bubble gum he had been chewing for a while, and muttered to himself indistinctly, "This plot... is even more outrageous than the novel I read."

He didn't dare say the second half of his sentence.
