Three times married to Yama

Chapter 4 Father's Disappearance

Fortunately, he didn't say anything, he just lay down on the bed and slowly closed his eyes.

There's only one bed in the room, but it's quite big. I think it'll be okay if he sleeps on one half and I sleep on the other half.

He didn't seem to have said I couldn't sleep in the bed. Thinking of this, I tiptoed closer to the bed, then lifted my skirt and carefully prepared to step over him, but he suddenly opened his eyes.

"What are you doing?" he asked coldly.

"Go to sleep."

He frowned slightly. "You dare to share a room with me?"

He seemed to mind, so I wisely withdrew the foot I had already stepped over. Anyway, my body was freezing cold, so I could just sleep on the floor.

Then I spent the night on the floor.

The next morning, the old woman who had led me there the night before reappeared, but the man in the bed was nowhere to be seen.

"Madam, you may leave now."

Can I go home now?

I hurried to the door, and the old woman handed me a wooden box. "This is from the Lord of the Prefecture. Please keep it safe and open it when you get home."

I took the wooden box and nodded gently. "Thank you."

Holding the wooden box, I followed the old woman out of the yard. A black car was parked outside.

This time I looked closely, and the car wasn't made of paper, nor was the driver inside a paper figure.

"Madam, please." The old woman opened the car door for me.

Without any hesitation, I got on the bus. I wanted to get home quickly and tell my dad the good news that I could survive. I had not let him down!

Although the car on the way back wasn't a paper replica, it still drove strangely, with the scenery outside the car being completely blurry, making it impossible to tell where we were.

The car stopped shortly afterward on the road behind the Qin family's house.

As soon as I got out of the car, I ran home, ignoring the shocked looks from the villagers around me.

"Dad! I'm back! We did it!"

My dad, who usually appears as soon as I call him, didn't show up this time, and the gate to our courtyard was also open.

My heart sank, and I quickly ran into the yard. The yard was in complete chaos. The herbs and dried goods that my dad had been drying were all overturned on the ground, and many of the chickens and ducks in the cages were dead.

The house was ransacked, as if it had been looted, and my father was nowhere to be seen.

I quickly found my phone to call him, but my dad's phone was found in the water tank.

Something must have happened to my dad.

Yes, call the police immediately. Just as I pressed the call button, I heard a surprised voice behind me.

"I was too late after all!"

I turned around abruptly and saw a middle-aged woman dressed as a nun standing at the entrance of the courtyard. She looked at the messy courtyard with a pained expression.

Her eyes lit up when she saw me, and she walked quickly towards me. "You must be my senior brother's daughter, right? Your name is Lan Yin, isn't it?"

I looked at her warily, without answering.

Seeing this, she stopped and continued, "I'm your father's junior sister. He called me a few days ago to come and help, but I just got here and..."

She looked around the messy room with regret in her eyes. "I'm still too late."

I stared intently at the Taoist nun in front of me. She said her name was Liu Hui and that I could just call her Aunt Hui.

From Aunt Hui, I learned many things about my father that were previously unknown to others.

The reason I became a living dead is all because of my father.

My dad was a Taoist priest. When he was young, he was ruthless and would kill anything that wasn't human within three seconds of falling into his hands. That's why he got the nickname "Lan San" (meaning "Three Lan").

Because of this, I made many enemies, including demons and monsters. They didn't dare to mess with my dad, so they set their sights on me.

Before I was born, my father wrapped the house in black cloth to block the ghosts that came to seek revenge on me, and also to prevent my soul from leaving my body.

"So my dad was targeted for revenge?" I asked.

Aunt Hui nodded with a stern face, "It's very possible, but since you were born, my senior brother has stopped working in this line of work. He has been hiding his tracks, and even we, his fellow disciples, don't know about him. How could those things have found him?"

My fingernails dug into my palm, but I felt no pain. I knew my father was found and sought revenge because of me.

I looked at Aunt Hui and calmly asked, "Aunt Hui, what do I need to do to find my father?"

Aunt Hui gave me an approving look, "You remain calm and composed in the face of adversity, just like your senior brother back in the day."

She paused for a moment, then tentatively asked me, "Didn't your senior brother leave you anything?"

Her words immediately made me more cautious.

Shouldn't my dad leave me something? I didn't even know my dad had a nickname, Lan San, until today.

I shook my head in confusion. "I don't know. My dad disappeared so suddenly. He didn't even have time to tell me anything."

"Sigh..." Aunt Hui sighed, "I'll use my senior brother's birth date and time to cast a divination tonight. Girl, don't worry, your father is very capable."

I nodded and silently tidied up the yard and the house. By the time Aunt Hui finished helping me tidy up, it was already late.

She came all the way here, and I invited her to stay at my house for a meal and a night, but she refused.

"I won't bother you any longer. You should get some rest. I'll come back to talk to you about my senior brother's matter tomorrow."

I didn't stay any longer. There was a hotel in the town not far from our village, and Aunt Hui stayed there that night.

As soon as she left, I received a message on my phone from my dad's number.

I looked at the phone I fished out of the water tank; it was completely frozen and there was no way I could send messages anymore.

After hesitating for a moment, I clicked on the message. It was a timed message that would disappear after being read.

Our secret base.

The message was very short, only a few words.

I was immediately jolted awake—that place only my dad and I knew about.

It's called a secret base, but it's actually just a naturally formed cave in the woods behind the mountain. The cave is surrounded by hemp, and even dogs have to go around it.

But I have no sense of pain and can't feel pain, so I couldn't be chosen, and this place became my and my dad's secret base.

As night fell, to be on the safe side, I waited until everyone in the village had turned off their lights before sneaking off to the back of the mountain.

As I passed by that patch of hemp, I expressionlessly pushed it aside and went inside.

The cave isn't very big, but it's a great place to cool off in the summer. When I was little, my dad often brought me here to cool off, and we would play treasure hunt games when we were bored.

My dad would hide things somewhere in the cave and make me find them. If I found them, he would reward me with a few dollars of pocket money.

Thinking of this, my expression hardened. My dad certainly wouldn't have called me here for no reason. I remembered Aunt Hui asking me during the day if my dad had left me anything...

Maybe my dad really did hide a 'treasure' for me here.

I started searching inside the cave. I've searched for treasure here countless times before, and I'm sure I'll find it this time too.

Sure enough, after I turned over an inconspicuous stone and cleared away the weeds behind it, I found the things my dad had left for me.

It was just an ordinary waterproof bag containing a book and a letter.

When I took out the book and saw the words on it clearly, I almost stopped breathing.

That is……
