Chen Chu stared at the hysterical woman before him, utterly speechless. He gave a ridiculous smirk and sneered, "According to your robber's logic, you abandoned your husband and children for vanity, and in the end, it's all my fault?"

"Don't you bear any responsibility?!" Chu Qiuyue stared at Chen Chu with red eyes, as if grasping at the last straw.

"What responsibility do I have?" Chen Chu retorted, his tone calm and undisturbed.

"I have a bad relationship with my child! My daughter looks at me like a stranger now, and Ziran hates me to the core. Isn't this your responsibility?!" Chu Qiuyue questioned sharply.

Chen Chu took a deep breath, his eyes filled with a knowing pity and mockery: "Chu Qiuyue, why do you always habitually find a plausible excuse for the sins you've committed? Why do you always try to drag others down with you when you cause trouble?"

"What do you mean? Are you saying you have absolutely no responsibility in this already dysfunctional marriage?!"

"The divorce was a decision you made after careful consideration. Did I hold a knife to your throat? Did I force you to sign the divorce papers?" Chen Chu's gaze was like a sharp scalpel, ruthlessly cutting through Chu Qiuyue's disguise. "And why do you treat the fact that 'the child doesn't acknowledge you' as a 'problem' caused by someone else?"

Chu Qiuyue was stunned, a look of confusion flashing in her eyes.

Chen Chu took a step closer, her words piercingly scathing: "In the end, this isn't a mistake; it's simply the inevitable 'consequence' you had to bear after making that selfish decision! Since you made that choice, you should have clearly anticipated this outcome! What, now that you've suffered injustice outside, you want to play the role of a loving mother, and when you find your child uncooperative, you think it's someone else's fault?"

Chu Qiuyue bit her lower lip hard, her face pale, unable to utter a single word, only looking at Chen Chu with eyes full of resentment and unwillingness.

Seeing her half-dead, as if the whole world owed her something, a faint pang of pity flickered deep in Chen Chu's heart. After all, they had been husband and wife. Seeing the proud woman of yesteryear transformed into this obsessive figure, he sighed.

"You were right about something you said earlier." Chen Chu's tone softened a bit, carrying a sense of resignation to fate. "I really don't have much ability. If I had been more capable back then, and could have taken out tens of millions to fill the hole in your family's finances, perhaps things could have been changed, and you wouldn't have ended up on this path."

Chu Qiuyue didn't speak; she just gritted her teeth and stared intently at Chen Chu. After a long while, she finally squeezed out a cold sentence through gritted teeth: "Chen Chu, you really haven't changed at all. You're always this lukewarm, pretentious, and aloof guy."

Chen Chu shook his head and laughed self-deprecatingly: "I haven't changed. But Chu Qiuyue, you've changed too much. I think if it were the old you, no matter how angry you were, you would never have acted like an irrational shrew, shouting and yelling in the hallway, abandoning even the most basic sense of decorum."

She didn't argue further, nor did she say another word. She suddenly turned around, grabbed Chen Xiayu who was standing silently to the side like a soulless rag doll, and, in her high heels, strode quickly into the elevator that had just opened without looking back.

As the elevator doors slowly closed, the mother and daughter disappeared from sight.

The hallway fell silent once more. Chen Chu stood there, silently taking out a cigarette and lighting it. For a moment, he didn't know what words to use to describe his feelings.

Chu Qiuyue's changes were indeed too great, so great that she seemed like a stranger to him. He had a vague guess in his heart that perhaps she was not doing well, or rather, the pressure of life and the distorted environment had completely warped her mind.

He could understand Chu Qiuyue's desperate desire to grasp onto something, but he absolutely could not tolerate her behavior of coming home to throw a tantrum and seek revenge after being wronged outside. This home no longer belonged to her, and he and the children were not her punching bags.

Now that they're divorced, Chen Chu has to consider Chen Ziran and Chen Xiayu's situation and absolutely cannot let this woman, who's on the verge of collapse, disrupt their hard-won peaceful life again.

After finishing his last puff of cigarette, Chen Chu stubbed it out on the trash can and turned to go home.

As soon as he turned around, he saw Chen Ziran standing at the corner of the stairs.

Chen Chu was taken aback: "What are you doing here?"

Chen Ziran put his hands in his pockets and pouted, "I just went downstairs with you guys and listened upstairs."

Chen Chu was speechless and was about to reprimand the kid when he caught a glimpse of Liu Yue peeking out from behind Chen Ziran.

"No..." Chen Chu was completely speechless now, pointing at Liu Yue, "What are you doing here? When did you get here?"

Liu Yue coughed awkwardly twice and said matter-of-factly, "I just happened to be passing by... and then I saw you two arguing in the hallway, so I just wanted to watch the show."

Chen Ziran ignored Liu Yue's banter. Recalling Chu Qiuyue's behavior earlier, his eyes were filled with disdain and coldness: "Dad, you didn't actually believe what she said just now, did you? She thinks it's all because you're poor?"

Liu Yue chimed in, trying to ease the tension: "Actually, I think Qiu Yue probably just wants to make it up to you. After all, blood is thicker than water. Now that she's better off, she probably just wants to take her sister out for a nice weekend and make up for what she owed you in the past."

"Compensation?" Chen Ziran snorted coldly, turning to look at Liu Yue with a sharp gaze that was completely unlike that of a high school student. "Sister Liu Yue, this isn't how you compensate! Do you really think she took her sister out for her sister's sake? She's not trying to compensate at all; she's just unhappy with herself and is using us as her 'atonement'!"

Liu Yue was stunned: "Indulgence vouchers?"

"Yes!" Chen Ziran said through gritted teeth, "She feels she wronged us back then, that's her own psychological problem! But why should she use us as a tool to wash away her guilt? My only request of her now is that she stay far away from us and never bother us again!"

Liu Yue expressed her utter incomprehension of this resolute decision. She frowned and advised, "Why think so badly of her? Perhaps she has truly realized her mistakes and genuinely wants to fulfill her responsibilities as a mother, and wants what's best for you?"

Chen Ziran gave Liu Yue a look as if she were an idiot, mercilessly puncturing the facade of peace: "Sister Liu Yue, you didn't see it, but I saw it clearly. She's not stupid! I don't believe she's completely unaware of how much I hate her, and she knows perfectly well how afraid her sister is of her. My idea is for her to leave our lives completely!"

Chen Ziran took a deep breath, her tone icy: "Since she clearly knows I resist her, knows my sister is afraid of her, she still insists on forcing herself on us under the guise of 'I'm your mother, I have to be good to you,' ignoring our pain and trying to force her so-called 'love' on us... What is this if not treating us as atonement to satisfy her sense of moral superiority?!"

Liu Yue opened her mouth, completely stumped by Chen Ziran's tight logic. For a moment, she felt her mind was blank and couldn't refute him, but something felt off, so she was too embarrassed to press him further.

Chen Ziran rolled her eyes at her, then waved her hand dismissively: "Sister Liu Yue, stop spreading your overflowing sympathy here. In short, you only need to know one thing: we're not stupid! We've all lived under the same roof for years, we know exactly who's what and what's on everyone's mind, there's no need for acting."

"The person who treats others like fools is the biggest fool himself."

"I'm just young, my body hasn't fully developed yet, not my brain!"

After saying that, Chen Ziran put his hands in his pockets, walked past Chen Chu, and went straight upstairs to go home.

Liu Yue stood there blankly, looking at Chen Chu, nodded, and followed him upstairs.

After taking several steps, Liu Yue suddenly stopped, her eyes widening in shock. She had realized what was happening.

"Wait a minute..." Liu Yue stared incredulously at Chen Chu's retreating figure, screaming internally, "Chen Ziran's comment just now, 'Nobody's an idiot... was he indirectly calling me an idiot?!"

"That's not right. People who treat others like fools are fools themselves. Doesn't that mean Chen Ziran is a fool too? But he says he's not a fool..."

"What exactly does he mean?"

……

Time flew by and it was already the afternoon of the second day.

According to the agreed time, Chu Qiuyue should have brought Chen Xiayu back before evening. However, as the clock on the wall slowly pointed to five o'clock, there was still no movement outside the gate.

In the living room, Chen Ziran paced back and forth between the sofa and the window like a trapped beast, glancing at his phone every few minutes, his face visibly growing anxious.

"Dad!" Chen Ziran suddenly stopped and turned to look at Chen Chu, who was sitting in front of the computer typing. "What time is it? Why hasn't she brought my sister back yet! You should call her right away, or just go and pick her up!"

Chen Chu pressed the Enter key, picked up the teacup next to him, took a sip, and said in a relatively calm tone, "It's only five o'clock, it's not evening yet, right? No rush, let's wait a little longer."

"Not in a hurry?!" Chen Ziran's voice instantly rose, filled with barely suppressed anger. "Can't you take some responsibility for your sister?! She's your own daughter!"

Chen Chu was taken aback by his son's sudden outburst of temper, his brows furrowed, and he put down his teacup.

Chen Ziran strode to the desk, placed his hands on the surface, and stared intently at Chen Chu, his eyes filled with anxiety and warning: "Dad, I'm not joking! Didn't you notice yesterday? Mom's emotions are extremely unstable right now. She's paranoid, extreme, and completely abnormal! Don't let your overflowing kindness and so-called 'reason' lead you to ruin my sister!"

Chen Ziran gritted his teeth and said, word by word, "Let me tell you, if anything happens to my sister in her hands, if she uses any extreme methods to provoke her... at that time, I will never forgive you for the rest of my life!"

Seeing his son's anger, Chen Chu's composure finally vanished.

Chen Chu remained silent for a moment, then quickly closed his laptop, stood up, and picked up his coat hanging on the chair.

"Okay," Chen Chu said in a deep voice, taking out his phone and starting to scroll through his contacts. "You stay home, I'll go pick them up now."

……

Meanwhile, at a high-end private mental health clinic on the other side of the city.

A faint scent of disinfectant and aromatherapy filled the air. Chen Xiayu sat quietly on a large leather sofa like a lifeless puppet, her eyes staring blankly at a potted plant on the coffee table in front of her, as if everything around her was irrelevant.

Chu Qiuyue sat next to her, looking nervously at the attending physician across from her.

"Doctor, how serious is my daughter's condition?" Chu Qiuyue clutched her designer handbag tightly, her tone filled with urgency. "She didn't say a single word to me last night, not even a smile. This is absolutely not normal! You must find a way to cure her!"

The doctor adjusted his gold-rimmed glasses, looked at the assessment report in his hand, and frowned slightly: "Ms. Chu, the child's psychological trauma is quite severe; she is currently in a state of extreme self-isolation. Such a severe psychological defense mechanism is unlikely to be effective in a short time with simple psychological counseling alone. If conditions permit, I suggest that the child stay in the hospital for observation for a period of time and undergo systematic intervention treatment."

"Hospital observation?" Chu Qiuyue was taken aback. "Does she need to be hospitalized? But she still has to go to school..."

"Mental health is more important than academic performance." The doctor said seriously, "It's true that being in the hospital, under our professional monitoring and guidance, will be better for her recovery."

Upon hearing this, Chu Qiuyue disregarded the child's wishes and instead turned to look at Chen Xiayu, who had remained silent. She reached out and gripped Chen Xiayu's thin shoulder tightly, trying to see a hint of response on her blank face.

"Darling, did you hear that?" Chu Qiuyue's voice carried an undeniable sense of coercion, as if she were dealing with a sick burden. "The doctor said you need to be hospitalized. Do you want to get better? Do you want to become the lively little girl you used to be? As long as you behave and go to the hospital obediently, Mommy promises..."

"Ding ding ding!"

The sudden ringing of a cell phone interrupted Chu Qiuyue's spellcasting in the quiet clinic.

Chu Qiuyue took out her phone with some irritation, glanced at the caller ID on the screen, and frowned deeply. She took a deep breath and pressed the answer button.

Before she could even speak, Chen Chu's deep and cold voice came from the other end of the phone.

"Where are you? It's almost time, I'm here to pick up the kids."

Chu Qiuyue glanced at the doctor opposite her and the lifeless Chen Xiayu beside her, swallowed hard, and said calmly, "I'm in the hospital."

"What?!"

On the other end of the phone, Chen Chu's voice instantly exploded with rage, his barely suppressed roar echoing throughout the entire consultation room: "What are you doing at the hospital?! Didn't you say you were taking Nannan to the amusement park?! What the hell are you doing?!"

Chu Qiuyue's ears ached from Chen Chu's roar. She gritted her teeth and remained silent, unsure how to explain her actions of taking the child to a mental health clinic without permission and attempting to force hospitalization.

Not hearing Chu Qiuyue's reply, Chen Chu on the other end of the phone started breathing heavily.

"Chu Qiuyue." Chen Chu's voice brooked no argument, "Which hospital are you in right now?! Tell me the address immediately! I'm coming right away!"
