Hermit in the Mountains

Chapter 39 Villagers Plant Trees on the Mountain

Gu Changsheng was unaware of the exciting events happening in the village, nor did he know that Li Anlan had not given up on the hair regrowth secret formula. His indifferent attitude even provoked Li Anlan's rebellious mentality.

Li Anlan, born with a silver spoon in her mouth and raised in luxury, has had most of her wishes fulfilled since childhood, and she herself is a top student.

Such people are more curious and desire things they can't have, in order to prove their own strength.

The next day, early in the morning, a truck loaded with plum blossom saplings slowly stopped in the playground of Xiahe Village, and Yang Dashan got out of the passenger seat.

As soon as the truck came to a stop, the villagers sitting on the stone steps by the playground got up and surrounded Yang Dashan to greet him.

"Dashan...Brother Dashan..."

Yang Dashan instructed everyone to load the saplings, "Everyone line up to load the saplings, take your belongings, and get ready to leave."

Half an hour later, the villagers entered the winding valley in a large group.

Each of them carried a bamboo basket on their back, and two people carried a wooden pole, one in front of the other, with a large bamboo basket hanging on the pole. The baskets and bamboo baskets were neatly filled with saplings.

Each villager wore a sun hat and had a patterned cloth bag slung across their neck, containing a lunchbox, a water bottle, and a small hoe.

On the mountain, after finishing his morning exercises, Gu Changsheng sat at the entrance waiting for everyone to arrive.

"Woof woof woof..." (Master, Master, someone's here!)

Before you see the dog, you hear its bark.

Dahuang was the one he sent out to pick up people. Hearing Dahuang's voice, he knew that Yang Dashan and the others had arrived. Gu Changsheng got up and walked to the entrance of the mountain road to greet everyone.

As soon as he reached the jade planting area, he saw Dahuang running towards him with vigorous strides.

He has also made some progress in physical cultivation. He has sharp hearing and eyesight, and can see the figures at the foot of the mountain without using his senses. He can also hear footsteps a hundred meters away.

"Woof woof woof..." Big Yellow wagged its tail and circled around Gu Changsheng once, then quietly squatted down at Gu Changsheng's feet, gazing at the mountain road.

Yang Dashan led the way, carrying a bamboo basket with saplings on his back, and a bamboo basket and a plastic bag in his hand.

As Yang Dashan walked out of the last bend, he saw Gu Changsheng, dressed in a dark blue training uniform, standing calmly a short distance in front of them with his hands tucked into his loose sleeves.

"Brother Gu, we're here."

The villagers following Yang Dashan walked out of the bend and greeted Gu Changsheng as they saw him.

"Hello, Boss Gu, hello..."

Gu Changsheng wore a faint smile, his body as still as a pine tree rooted to the ground, his hands still inside his sleeves, his expression calm and composed.

"Brother Yang, you've worked hard!"

He looked past Yang Dashan and towards the villagers behind him, saying, "Thank you for your hard work."

"It's not hard work, it's not hard work at all. We should thank Boss Gu for giving us this job opportunity," the villager replied, his face beaming with smiles and panting.

The villagers were physically tired, but they were happy. A thousand yuan a day, what was a little tiredness?

Gu Changsheng led everyone toward the wooden house. When they arrived at the kitchen, he said, "Everyone has had a long and tiring journey up the mountain. Put down your things, take a break, and start planting trees after a few minutes."

"Thank you, Boss Gu..." With Gu Changsheng speaking, the villagers took off their baskets, cloth bags, and bamboo crates.

After Gu Changsheng finished speaking, he pulled his right hand out of his sleeve and used it to help Yang Dashan unload the bamboo basket from his back.

Yang Dashan suddenly felt a lightness on his back. He turned around and saw Gu Changsheng holding the bamboo basket on his back with his right hand. His pupils widened in surprise.

The saplings in the basket on his back weighed a total of sixty or seventy pounds, which Gu Changsheng carried with ease in one hand. What was astonishing was that Gu Changsheng's right hand was level with his shoulder and suspended in the air while carrying the basket.

If he were to lift it with one hand while it's suspended in the air, he definitely wouldn't be able to lift it, and he wouldn't be able to hold it for more than a few seconds with both hands either.

With arms outstretched and suspended in the air, it's not comparable to lifting things with arms hanging down.

Shocked as he was, Yang Dashan was no longer burdened by the weight on his back. He half-squatted down and put down the bag and bamboo basket in his hands. He pulled his right hand out from the basket's strap, turned counterclockwise and grabbed the basket. His left hand then grabbed the other end of the basket and gently placed the basket, which weighed 60 or 70 pounds, on the ground.

No one else noticed Gu Changsheng's actions. Although Yang Dashan was shocked, he didn't ask Gu Changsheng how he had such strength. He thanked him, squatted down, and took out a bundle of plastic rope from the plastic bag.

"Thanks!"

He stood up and showed the plastic rope to Gu Changsheng, "Brother Gu, I made a 100-meter-long plastic rope;"

"There's a red plastic strap every two meters on the white rope. We just need to secure one end, stop the rope to fix the other end, and then adjust the rope."

"We dig holes under the red plastic strips to plant, which saves a lot of time."

Gu Changsheng glanced at the white plastic rope in Yang Dashan's hand, which was tied with a lot of red plastic strips. "Brother Yang, your method is good. Do it according to your idea."

The two chatted for a while about the planting plan. After the villagers had rested for a while, Gu Changsheng and Yang Dashan called a short meeting for everyone.

Gu Changsheng glanced at the thirty people in front of him and called out the five people who had helped plant trees last time. "You five will be group leaders. Each of you should select five people to form a group and teach them the requirements for planting trees."

"The five of you will follow Yang Dashan's instructions. If you have any problems, tell Yang Dashan and he will come to me."

After appointing the temporary group leader and team leader, Gu Changsheng looked at the villagers behind him and said, "If you have any questions, you can ask your temporary group leader. If you have any problems or suggestions, please give feedback to your temporary group leader."

"Yang Dashan is the team leader, managing five group leaders and responsible for planning the planting work."

He then changed the subject, saying, "Those who don't listen to the team leader and captain, and affect the planting progress, don't need to come next time."

"I don't care whether you accept them as team leaders or not. If anyone is dissatisfied and disobeys orders, affecting the planting progress, then it's your fault."

"I only care about results; the planting plans I set must be completed on time."

He paused, his cold gaze sweeping over the crowd. "Who among you is dissatisfied with their qualifications to be captains or team leaders?"

"If you disagree, you can stand up now. Don't cause trouble during the tree planting and affect the planting progress, or I will deduct your wages as lost work fees."

When the villagers heard that Yang Dashan had become the team leader, they were not dissatisfied. After all, they all knew that Yang Dashan and Gu Changsheng had the best relationship, and that Yang Dashan had given them this job.

Hearing that five people younger than them had been appointed as group leaders, some older villagers might feel embarrassed or resentful.

However, when they heard Gu Changsheng's warning, their resentment was shattered. What was face compared to a thousand yuan a day?

They all knew that more than 20,000 saplings needed to be planted. If they could come every time, that would be six times, three days each time, and they could get three thousand yuan each time. Six times would be eighteen thousand yuan.

Thinking about the 18,000 yuan wage, which they might not earn even after a year of hard work farming, what does it matter who is the team leader? Making the money is the important thing.

Seeing that no one spoke, Gu Changsheng looked at Yang Dashan and said, "Brother Yang, take them to the back of the mountain to start planting trees."
