Police Chief's Anti-Organized Crime Storm

"Ma Guoliang, what are you doing?" The person on the other end of the phone was very impatient.

Ma Guoliang was stunned. He didn't know what he had done wrong. Why was his old boss so annoyed with him?

"Old boss, I..." This time, he was really dumbfounded and at a loss. What had he done?

"Don't you know what you've done? I even said something for your Gaoshan County last time, and now I'm caught in the middle. Do you know what Secretary Hua said about me today? Ma Guoliang, what heinous thing have you done? Do you know how angry Secretary Hua was today? Huh? He scolded all five of us standing committee members first thing this morning."

Qi Fengqi was furious. In the three years he'd been on the Dongjiang Provincial Party Committee leadership team, Hua Yunfeng had almost never argued with him. This morning, however, he was practically ready to slap him across the face. If the other standing committee members weren't there, they would have given him a thorough dressing-down. He couldn't understand what had gone wrong.

"Ma Guoliang, what exactly did you do? What exactly did Gaoshan County do?" Qi Fengqi's words left Ma Guoliang bewildered. What did he do? He didn't do anything. It's just that three county magistrates of Gaoshan County died. But this wasn't entirely his fault. Who told those three county magistrates to be so ungrateful? Besides, he wasn't the one who took the job. It had nothing to do with him.

No, if it were because of the deaths of three county magistrates, it wouldn't have taken so long to erupt. No, no, absolutely not.

What is that?

Suddenly, he thought of something. When Gao Lan died... could it be that incident?

Ma Guoliang felt uneasy when Qi Fengqi abruptly hung up the phone. Ma Guoliang's face was grim; he didn't understand what had gone wrong, but the matter was far from over.

The relevant departments in Gaoshan County received a notice that all funding for projects funded by the province and city would be suspended. The highest auditing department issued a notice to conduct a full audit of Gaoshan County. The State Administration of Taxation issued a notice to thoroughly investigate Gaoshan County's tax returns for the past few years, so that Gaoshan County should prepare accordingly.

Suddenly, there was a sense of impending storm in Gaoshan County.

Ma Guoliang received a call from the director of the tax bureau, as well as calls from various audit and finance officials in Gaoshan County. Almost without exception, they had all received notices that people from the province were coming to audit and inspect the accounts.

Ma Guoliang's heart was pounding. Had Gaoshan County stirred up a hornet's nest? He still couldn't understand what the problem was. Why would the province suddenly target Gaoshan? This was extremely detrimental to Gaoshan's economic development and political environment. What exactly was going on?

Without funding from the province, relying solely on local finances, it's impossible to complete those large projects. What can we do?

Ma Guoliang instantly realized the seriousness of the problem, but he didn't know exactly where the problem lay.

Secretary Ma completely lost his temper.

He ran his hands through his hair, completely bewildered, unable to figure out what the problem was. Could it really be that incident? Did the higher-ups know about Gao Lan's death? Did they know she was assaulted before she died?

That shouldn't be the case. Didn't Liu Yixiong handle everything? The news shouldn't be able to get out.

Could it be that something went wrong with Liu Yixiong?

Ma Guoliang was startled and quickly picked up his phone to make a call. His voice was distorted: "Liu Yixiong, I'm asking you, what about that forensic doctor we talked about before, the female forensic doctor who performed the autopsy on Gao Lan? Has the case been resolved?"

Liu Yixiong was startled, his heart skipped a beat, and he quickly smiled apologetically, "Secretary Ma, don't worry, it will be taken care of right away."

"What does that mean?" A bad feeling welled up in Ma Guoliang's heart.

"Um... um..." Liu Yixiong hesitated. If Ma Guoliang found out that the junior forensic doctor had escaped, he would probably be scolded to death.

"Tell me, what exactly happened?" Ma Guoliang's voice suddenly turned stern.

After hesitating for a moment, Liu Yixiong saw that Ma Guoliang was getting anxious, so he had no choice but to tell the truth about what had happened. When Ma Guoliang heard this, his head exploded. The forensic doctor had run away!

He felt dizzy; it seemed his guess was right—Gao Lan's affair was about to be exposed. Most likely, it already had.

Could it be that incident? The fact that Gao Lan was raped before her death, and someone reported it to the higher authorities? For a moment, despite his inner rage, Ma Guoliang was unsure whether it was because of that incident, so he could only order Liu Yixiong to deal with Lu Xiujuan's matter as soon as possible.

Liu Yixiong nodded repeatedly, his forehead covered in sweat.

Gaoshan County was still receiving notices from the province or city for inspections or audits. The entire county seemed to have become a focus of attention overnight. Ma Guoliang felt numb and thought that his term as county party secretary was coming to an end.

What exactly happened to Gaoshan County?

At the Friendship Hotel, Fatty Xu deciphered the contents of the USB drive. Lin Ying opened the data on the USB drive, and what she saw made her feel terrible. The numbers in front of her were shocking. She never imagined that such a small mountain county could harbor so much corruption, that even the country's money could openly end up in personal pockets.

These scumbags take the hard-earned money of ordinary people and line their own pockets.

"These figures are terrifying. So much money! Gaoshan County has been a poverty-stricken county for so many years. This is no poverty-stricken county at all. All this money has been wasted." Fatty Xu glanced at the data and sighed.

Lin Ying nodded, feeling that things were far from simple, and that the burden on her shoulders had become much heavier.

Why did Gao Lan get into trouble? Was it because she obtained these documents? Sun Ping asked him to give these documents to Liu Yang, the secretary in the municipal government office. Could Liu Yang help Sun Ping? Or does Liu Yang have some connection with Gao Lan?

Lin Ying felt heavy-hearted. Gao Lan's death was definitely related to this USB drive. However, the records showed that Gao Lan was found dead in her bed, having committed suicide. Moreover, her home had been robbed that night. The reason for her suicide was that she had accepted a million-yuan bribe and died from guilt and remorse. What about those robbers?

It seems that to find out the real cause of Gao Lan's death, we must find those guys who broke into the house and robbed us; they are very likely the murderers.

I need to go and see the scene of Gao Lan's murder.

"How's it going? Are you all ready?" Lin Ying glanced around at the three of them. Fatty Xu, Duan Fei, and Xie Zhijun all nodded.

"I inspected the high point set up by the county government office; someone used to live there." Xie Zhijun looked at Lin Ying with a serious expression.

"So, someone is spying on the county government office?"

Xie Zhijun nodded slowly.

This was pretty much what she expected. Gao Lan's death was too suspicious; it couldn't be that simple. There must be many hidden stories behind it. Gao Lan died only three months after taking office; the other party acted too quickly!

Lin Ying's eyes narrowed slightly: "Let's go back to the police station."
