Reborn as a high school freshman with an awakened system, a fat boy transforms into a male god.
Chapter 100 The porridge is so delicious!
It was already past 8 p.m. when I got back from 502.
Lin Bei sat at his desk and finished writing his two chapters for the day.
Then I did dozens of push-ups and took a shower.
He dried himself off and put on his pajamas.
Standing in front of the mirror, he glanced at himself. His belly had shrunk again. His cheeks were less fleshy, and his features were starting to show; his skin wasn't as dull either.
He tilted his head, then glanced at it from the side. A slight smile unconsciously curved his lips.
[Host's current appearance... 7 out of 10.]
Lin Bei paused for a moment, then looked closer in the mirror: Wasn't it still a 6 last time?
[My acne has decreased significantly, my face shape has changed from perfectly round to slightly oval, and my skin has evolved from the surface of the moon to barely smooth. Overall rating: 7 out of 10. It's still far from "not unpleasant to the eyes," but it's improved from "a little unpleasant to the eyes" to "a little unpleasant but tolerable"... well, that's progress, I guess.]
Wait a minute, if your looks have improved, what about your physique, emotional intelligence, and charm?
Lin Bei brought up the attribute panel.
[The host finally remembered to check the attribute panel? The system thought you only cared about your looks.]
A semi-transparent interface suddenly unfolded before my eyes.
Host: Lin Bei
Age: 16 years old
Height: 178cm
Weight: XNUM X kg
Appearance: 7/100
Body type rating: 19/100
IQ score: 77/100
Emotional Intelligence Score: 39/100
Charm rating: 18/100
Lin Bei stared at the numbers, a slight smile playing on his lips. Last Friday, when he checked his IQ, his appearance was 6, physique 18, EQ 38, and charm 17—these four attributes hadn't increased naturally for a while. Except for IQ, which wouldn't change unless actively added, all the other attributes had increased by 1 point naturally, albeit slowly, but consistently.
He closed the attribute panel, went into the bedroom, and lay down on the bed.
The image of Su Wantang smiling tonight flashed through his mind again; her eyes were narrowed into slits, and her whole being seemed to be glowing.
The light in apartment 502 across the street is still on.
[An abnormal heart rate has been detected in the host. Counting sheep is recommended.]
Lin Bei rolled over: "I counted, they're all her faces."
How many houses do you own?
Lin Bei: "Six sets. Counted them all, and it's still her face."
[Host, the system suggests you see a doctor. A doctor specializing in love-related neurosis, the incurable kind.]
Lin Bei: "..."
At six o'clock on Sunday morning, Lin Bei woke up before the alarm clock even went off.
After running six kilometers, I took a shower and stood at the entrance of room 502 at seven o'clock.
The door opened. Su Wantang was wearing that familiar light pink loungewear, her hair tied in a low ponytail, and she looked radiant.
"morning."
"morning."
Lin Bei changed his shoes, walked into the living room, and sat down at the dining table.
Two bowls of pumpkin porridge, a plate of cucumber salad, and two poached eggs. It looked no different from usual.
He picked up the bowl and took a sip.
Then the movement stopped.
Not right.
The porridge was still golden, and the pumpkin was cooked until very soft, but the taste was completely wrong. It wasn't that it tasted bad, it was just... so different. The sweetness of the pumpkin was almost completely masked by some kind of grain flavor, and the texture was much coarser, with noticeable grain particles, like drinking a bowl of mixed grain porridge.
He took another sip, and his brows furrowed involuntarily.
Su Wantang, who was sitting opposite him, kept looking at him.
The moment she saw him frown, she couldn't help but smile. The smile spread from her lips to her eyes, and finally her whole body trembled slightly. She was trying to hold back her laughter, but she couldn't.
"You can taste the difference?" Her voice was tinged with laughter, and her eyes crinkled into a smile.
Lin Bei looked up at her expression and instantly understood what was going on.
"You didn't do this."
"I knew you'd react like that." Su Wantang nodded and finally smiled.
"My dad made it," she said softly. "He got up around five o'clock. When I got up, I was going to go into the kitchen to make breakfast, but I found that he had already prepared it."
She paused, lowered her head, and gently stroked the rim of the bowl with her fingers.
"Then he went out to work."
Lin Bei looked down at the porridge in his bowl and took another sip. This time he drank even more slowly, savoring it carefully. Although the taste was quite different, the pumpkin was chopped very finely, the millet had been soaked, and it had been cooked for more than an hour.
A middle-aged man who had never cooked before got up at five o'clock and clumsily chopped pumpkin, soaked millet, and cooked porridge for more than an hour.
Su Wantang looked at him and smiled again, this time a softer smile, but the light in her eyes was even brighter.
"Is it good?" she asked.
Lin Bei took another sip and nodded seriously.
"It tastes good."
He was telling the truth. Although the taste was different, there was something else in this bowl of porridge.
Su Wantang looked at him, said nothing more, and lowered her head to start eating her porridge. But the smile on her lips never faded.
"So, about me coming here every day for breakfast..." Lin Bei said, "Your dad doesn't know, does he?"
"He doesn't know, I didn't tell him," Su Wantang said.
Lin Bei subconsciously sat up straighter, feeling his heart rate rapidly, and a sense of apprehension that he might be discovered.
Just then, the sound of a key turning came from the doorway.
Click.
The door opened.
Su Yuan stood at the door, one hand still gripping the doorknob, the other holding a briefcase. He was wearing a dark blue work jacket, and his hair was a little messier than when he left in the morning, as if he had been rushing all the way.
He was stunned when he saw the two people at the dining table.
Lin Bei was also stunned. He was holding the porridge bowl, with a mouthful of pumpkin porridge still in his mouth, his movements frozen in mid-air.
Su Wantang was also stunned. Her chopsticks hovered above the rim of the bowl.
Three people, six eyes, looking at each other in bewilderment.
The living room was so quiet that you could hear the ticking of the quartz clock on the wall.
[Host, Su Yuan is probably thinking right now: Did I come back at the wrong time?]
Lin Bei's lips twitched.
"Dad, why are you back?" Su Wantang was the first to react, putting down her chopsticks, her voice carrying a slightly unnatural lightness.
Su Yuan paused for a moment, then nodded, his gaze shifting from his daughter to Lin Bei, and then back to his daughter.
"I forgot my phone," he said, his voice lower than usual. "I'm coming back to get it."
He stood in the entryway, not changing his shoes, his briefcase still in his hand.
"You guys keep eating." He glanced at Lin Bei. "Lin Bei, is Uncle Su's pumpkin porridge... alright?"
Lin Bei was taken aback.
When Su Yuan asked the question, his tone was flat, but his fingers lightly clenched the handle of his briefcase. The movement was subtle, but Lin Bei noticed it.
"It's delicious," Lin Bei said.
Su Yuan's lips twitched slightly. It wasn't a smile, but it wasn't a complete lack of a smile either.
"Then you eat."
After saying that, he bent down and started changing his shoes. He moved quickly, pulling his feet out before the shoelaces were even fully untied, and shuffled into the house in his slippers.
"I came back, grabbed my phone, and left."
He went into his bedroom; the door was open.
Less than a minute before and after.
When Su Yuan came out of the bedroom, he was holding a cell phone. He had changed back into leather shoes and was standing in the entryway.
"Dad," Su Wantang called out.
Su Yuan raised his head.
"Have you...eaten?" Su Wantang asked.
Su Yuan was taken aback. He glanced at the bowl of porridge on the table, then at his daughter.
"I ate, I ate before I went out."
He spoke in a more natural tone than before. Then he opened the door and went out.
Click.
The door closed.
The footsteps in the corridor grew fainter and fainter until they finally disappeared.
The living room fell silent again. Lin Bei and Su Wantang were still sitting at the dining table, the steam rising from their bowls of porridge, but neither of them picked up their chopsticks.
[Host, from now on, your breakfasts might not all be made by Su Wantang; they might be made by her father. You never know what awaits you after you push open that door.]
Lin Bei's lips twitched.
"What's wrong?" Su Wantang asked, noticing his strange expression.
"It's nothing." Lin Bei picked up the bowl of porridge and drank more than half of it in one gulp. "The porridge is so delicious."
