Transmigrated into the cannon fodder younger sister of the uke in a BL novel
Chapter 72 Questioning
Wen Fan pushed open the door to her home, which was dimly lit.
He reached out and turned on the light in the entryway. The house was empty, with a sketch Wenqing had drawn before leaving home spread out on the coffee table, and a pencil lying next to it.
The room was eerily quiet.
He changed into slippers, walked into the living room, glanced at the clock on the wall: 5:55.
What time did she leave before going out? It seems to be around 2 PM. She said she was going to the Su family to visit her good friend and would be back around 5:30 PM.
But it's almost six o'clock now.
He took out his phone and found that there were no missed calls or unread messages.
Upon seeing this, Wen Fan's gaze darkened.
But he still sat down and waited for ten minutes.
When he still received no messages on his phone, he couldn't help but send one.
"Where are you? Why aren't you back yet?"
There was no reply.
Wen Fan's gaze darkened further upon seeing this.
……
On the other side, Wen Qing, sitting in the Su family's car, looked down at the long pants on her legs that showed no signs of bandaging, and let out a long sigh of relief.
These pants were found for her by Su Yilan at the last minute; they were two sizes looser than her own, just enough to cover the gauze on her calves.
Seeing her relieved expression, Su Yilan couldn't help but ask, "Why did you change your pants? Why did you hide the fact that you almost got hit by a car from your brother? Are you that afraid of him?"
Wenqing stuffed the blood-stained and dust-covered pants she had taken off into the bag and sighed.
"It's not that I'm afraid of him... I just don't want him to worry. Anyway, nothing serious happened in the end. If he knew I almost got hit by a car, he would definitely be overly nervous. You know, he usually worries even if I walk a few extra steps. Last time I was a little tired from cleaning, he felt guilty for days. I don't want him to have another thing that keeps him up at night."
Su Yilan smiled knowingly, recalling Wen Fan's nervous expression whenever he looked at Wen Qing, but then mischievously tilted her head.
"Have you thought about... what if your brother comes home early today?"
"Probably not," Wen Qing said confidently. "He's been extremely busy with work these past few days, coming home quite late every day. Today he'll probably be back around seven or eight o'clock."
"What if?" Su Yilan blinked. "What if he's not busy today and goes home early?"
Wen Qing frowned slightly, but quickly relaxed: "It can't be that much of a coincidence, can it?"
As it turns out, Su Yilan's jinx was indeed accurate.
When Wen Qing returned home and opened the door, the first thing she saw was Wen Fan sitting on the sofa.
He wasn't playing on his phone or watching TV; he was just sitting there upright, with a glass of water that had long since gone cold on the coffee table in front of him.
Hearing the door open, his gaze immediately swept over, from her face to her legs. His eyes were different from his usual gentle gaze, carrying a hint of scrutinizing coldness.
Wen Qing felt even more guilty after being looked at by him. She subconsciously stood up straight and held the bag containing her pants in front of her, like a primary school student being called to the teacher's office.
Wen Fan looked at her, his voice neither loud nor soft.
"Why are you so late? You said you'd be back by 5:30!"
Wen Qing immediately brought out the excuse she had prepared in advance, saying that Su Yilan insisted on taking her to an art supply store, and they lost track of time while shopping, and then her phone died.
Wen Fan listened without saying a word, tapping his fingers lightly on his knee twice, his dark eyes quietly fixed on her face.
Wenqing felt uneasy under his gaze. She took two steps forward, reached out and tugged at his sleeve, her voice soft and gentle.
"Brother, I really didn't mean to come back late. Next time I'm late, I'll definitely tell you in advance, okay?"
When Wen Fan saw her taking the initiative to come over and act coquettishly, his tense face finally showed signs of relaxing.
He looked away, his lips twitching slightly, but he still tried to maintain a serious expression.
Seeing that his attitude had softened, Wenqing immediately tugged at his sleeve twice, her almond-shaped eyes widening and her lips slightly pouting, taking her pitiful act to the extreme.
"Brother—I know I was wrong, please don't be angry with me."
Wen Fan's ears tingled at her drawn-out "brother," and his forced cold expression completely crumbled.
He sighed, the coldness in his eyes turning into helplessness: "I know, don't do it again next time."
Wen Qing thought she had gotten through this hurdle and was secretly relieved when Wen Fan suddenly changed the subject, his gaze fixed intently on her lower body: "You weren't wearing these pants when you left, so why did you change them when you came back?"
Wen Qing's heart skipped a beat, and she almost lost her smile.
Fortunately, this was within her plan. She scratched the back of her head and answered with a reason she had already prepared.
"I accidentally got paint on my pants at the art supply store, and Su Su lent me a pair of pants. My old pants were in the bag, so I could wash them and still wear them."
Wen Fan frowned slightly, his gaze lingering on her pants for a moment, then on her face for a second.
Warmth held its breath.
Fortunately, Wen Fan simply lowered his eyelashes, his tone returning to its usual gentleness, and did not press further.
Wen Qing breathed a sigh of relief and was about to slip back to her room when Wen Fan suddenly reached out and grabbed her wrist.
She turned to look at him, but he didn't look at her. He just looked down at the part of her wrist that he was holding, and gently rubbed his thumb on her wrist bone, as if confirming something.
"No matter where you go in the future, you must come back on time."
He said it in a low voice, with a lingering unease.
"If you really can't come back on time, tell me in advance. Don't leave me at home wondering if something happened to you."
As Wenqing listened to his deep voice, a bittersweet feeling welled up inside her, and she obediently nodded.
Wen Fan then released her hand, and as her fingers slid down her wrist, her fingertips inadvertently brushed against her palm, causing a very slight itch.
