Wen Fan pushed open the car door, and the sound of rain rushed into his ears.

He strode towards the figure holding an umbrella at the entrance of the building.

Wenqing stood under the umbrella, her trouser legs already wet. She looked around, standing on tiptoe, like a fledgling waiting for its parent birds to return to their nest.

Upon seeing him, her round, almond-shaped eyes immediately lit up.

"Why did you come down?" Wen Fan walked up to her in a few steps, grabbed her wrist holding the umbrella, and pushed the umbrella towards her, exposing half of his shoulder to the rain. "It's raining so hard, and it's so cold outside, what are you doing out here?"

"I sent you a message but you didn't reply, and my phone was off when I called," Wen Qing looked up at him, raising her umbrella to shield him from the rain. "I was a little worried, so I came down to check on you."

Wen Fan touched her cheek, his fingertips feeling a cool, damp sensation.

His heart clenched, and his tone immediately changed from anxious to distressed as he explained.

"My phone died, so I didn't receive the message. How long have you been waiting? Your face is getting cold. Hurry up and go upstairs."

He reached out and put his arm around her shoulder, trying to lead her into the building.

Wen Qing didn't move. She reached past Wen Fan's arm and looked at the car behind him that was still parked in the rain. She could vaguely see the outline of a man behind the glass, and his calm black eyes behind his glasses were looking at her.

Wen Qing tugged at Wen Fan's sleeve.

Wen Fan then remembered the car and people behind him. A faint hint of embarrassment flashed in his eyes. For a moment, all he could think about was his sister, and he forgot everything else.

"I'm sorry, boss," he walked back to the car window, bowing slightly, "I was so worried about my sister that I forgot for a moment..."

"It's nothing," Lin Zhiyan interrupted his apology, his tone gentle. His gaze passed over Wen Fan and landed on the girl who had walked over with him. He asked, "Is this your sister?"

"Yes," Wen Fan nodded, his eyes gentle, "my sister, Wen Qing."

Wen Qing stood there looking at Lin Zhiyan, her gaze as direct and unwavering as it had been at the hospital last time.

Lin Zhiyan met those almond-shaped eyes, and her lips curved slightly into a very faint, friendly smile.

Then he looked away and turned his gaze back to Wen Fan.

"You two siblings have a good relationship."

"Yes," Wen Fan turned to look at Wen Qing, his gaze unadorned and tender, almost overflowing with affection. "My sister is the most important person to me in this world."

Wen Qing was taken aback and then gripped Wen Fan's hand tightly.

Lin Zhiyan looked at this scene and suddenly said.

"Your relationship is quite enviable."

"Because we only have each other left."

Wen Fan's smile was genuine.

Lin Zhiyan was taken aback for a moment, then smiled and sighed.

Finally, Wen Fan thanked him for driving him back today. Lin Zhiyan said "It was nothing" and then drove away after saying a few polite words.

Once the car had completely disappeared around the street corner, Wen Qing turned to Wen Fan and asked, "Brother, why was he the one who brought you home today?"

Wen Fan explained that it suddenly started raining heavily when he was leaving get off work. He wanted to take a taxi home, but his phone was dead. So he met Lin Zhiyan while taking shelter from the rain on the side of the road.

He spoke very briefly, omitting the part where Lin Zhiyan apologized on behalf of Gu Qin.

"He offered to help?" Wen Qing frowned slightly, puzzled. "You've only met twice, right? Why is he being so kind?"

"...I don't know," Wen Fan lowered his eyes, "maybe the boss meant well."

He didn't want to continue the topic, and Wenqing could tell.

She didn't press him further, but instead took his arm and went upstairs, though she couldn't easily let go of the past.

So, is Lin Zhiyan now paying attention to her brother?

……

Wenqing's birthday was fast approaching, and Wen Fan took a day off to celebrate with her.

On my birthday morning, I was awakened by the aroma of fried eggs and toast.

The coffee table in the living room was moved to the wall to make room for more space.

Two bowls of steaming longevity noodles were placed on the table, with a poached egg on top, the yolk runny and the edges slightly crispy.

There was a cake box on the corner of the table. The lid was not open yet, but Wenqing knew that there must be a round cake inside, covered with white cream and topped with strawberries—because it was the one she had said she wanted to eat last time.

"Happy birthday, Qingqing," Wen Fan peeked out from the kitchen, smiling gently. "Let's eat noodles first, we'll cut the cake this afternoon."

"Afternoon?" Wen Qing sat down at the dining table, picked up a noodle with her chopsticks, and blew on it.

"I'll take you to Disneyland after we finish eating," Wen Fan said, sitting down opposite her and pulling his bowl of noodles over. He didn't start eating right away, but watched her eat instead. "Haven't you always wanted to go? The guy who saw that castle on TV last time has been talking about it for days."

Wenqing paused for a moment while biting into the noodles.

She did mention it; it happened a month ago. She was curled up on the sofa changing channels when she saw a Disney character and casually remarked, "So pretty."

She said it casually and didn't take it to heart, but her brother remembered it.

Wen Qing felt a tingling sensation in her heart and her eyes welled up with tears, but she lowered her head and just kept eating noodles.

She didn't want her brother to see her cry.

After finishing their noodles, Wen Fan washed the dishes in the kitchen, while Wen Qing packed her things to take with her when she went out in the living room.

After getting ready, the two changed their shoes and went out; the sun was shining brightly.

Disneyland is very crowded.

Wenqing's body couldn't handle roller coasters or rides with violent shaking, so Wenfan did her homework beforehand, making a clear list of the rides she could and couldn't ride.

A carousel is fine, Dumbo is fine, Winnie the Pooh's Honey Pot is fine, but Pirates of the Caribbean's Sunken Treasure is too thrilling, no way.

When he took the handwritten list out of his pocket to look at it, Wen Qing tiptoed and glanced at it, discovering that the back of the list also indicated the location of the nearest medical room for each item.

She didn't say anything, but simply took his arm and nuzzled her head against his shoulder.

In the afternoon, the two left Disneyland satisfied.

Wenqing had a great time, chattering away the whole way, while Wenfan listened to her gently.

In Wen Fan's eyes, he hadn't seen his sister so happy in a long time.

So today's trip was well worth it.

However, when Wen Fan reached the subway station, he subconsciously touched his pocket and suddenly realized that his keys were missing.

"Brother, what's wrong?"

She looked at him with a mixture of tenderness and doubt.

"Qingqing, the keys are missing..."

"ah……"

The two people stood at the subway station entrance, looking at each other in bewilderment.

"It must have fallen inside Disneyland," Wen Fan turned his backpack upside down, finally accepting the fact. "I remember it was still in my pocket during the last ride, it probably slipped out when I was riding Winnie the Pooh's Honey Pot."

Wenqing leaned against the wall, her heels a little sore from the chafing, and her calves ached.

She walked quite a distance today, and although she rested several times, it still took a lot of physical exertion for her.

Wen Fan glanced at her; her complexion was fairly normal, except her eyelids were drooping slightly.

"Don't stand there," he said, pulling her to a chair on the side path. "Sit here and wait for me. I'll go back and look for it. There's a lost and found at Disneyland. I'll go ask."

"I'll go with you."

"No, you've walked too much today. Your legs won't be able to take another walk," he said, squatting down and pressing her ankle. He was relieved when he didn't see any obvious swelling. "I'll be back soon. Just sit still and keep your phone on. Call me if anything happens."

Warmth is indeed tiring.

She sat in the chair, watching him jog towards Disneyland, his figure getting further and further away.

She held her phone in her hand, leaned back in her chair, and closed her eyes to rest.

Wen Qing closed her eyes, wondering how long it would take for Wen Fan to return.

After an unknown amount of time, a dark and oppressive shadow suddenly enveloped her.

Wen Qing felt a chill on her body and opened her eyes in confusion, only to find several people standing abruptly in front of her.

The leader was tall and backlit, so his face was obscured; only a black outline above his shoulders was visible.

But she noticed that the man was wearing a thin silver chain around his collarbone.

Her pupils contracted sharply.
