At the 4S store, Qiao Wan took a fancy to a new energy electric vehicle. It was from the brand her son liked, which had a very stylish design. She immediately paid the deposit and planned to pick up the car next week.

Then, she and Shen Yingtang picked up their son from school and happily went out for hot pot.

Today is the 21st day of the twelfth lunar month, and the New Year is just around the corner. There is a festive atmosphere everywhere. Qiao Wan is with her son and best friend, eating hot food and discussing how to buy some New Year's goods so that they can have a reunion this year.

The closer it got to this point, the more Qiao Wan missed home, not her adoptive parents' home in Hong Kong, but her biological parents' home.

She was adopted by a welfare home in Beijing. When she went to college, she went to visit the welfare home, but was told that the day after she was adopted, an arson attack occurred in the archives and all the children's records were burned. The only person who knew her background, the old director, also passed away seven years ago.

Qiao Wan was unwilling to accept it. Even though she had been abandoned, she wanted to see the couple and ask them why they didn't want her.

Later, Yi Yanzhi helped her find a caregiver named Tan Rong who had worked at the welfare home back then. She visited her with gifts, but the neighbors said that the family had moved away overnight.

She couldn't understand whether all these things were coincidences or a deliberate conspiracy.

After finishing the hot pot, Qiao Wan also packed a bowl of beef noodles. Passing by the hospital, she wanted to visit Zhang Manman, so she asked Shen Yingtang to take the child home first.

As soon as I reached the ward door, I heard a commotion inside.

"Manman, I beg you, please listen to Miss Jiang and get Qiao Wan's body dirty. If you get her dirty, Miss Jiang will send you abroad for treatment. Your illness will cost a lot of money, and I really can't do anything about it."

"What do you mean by 'dirtying Qiao Wan's body'? I really don't understand."

"How did you get all these illnesses? Just tell her to get them too, like you did last time, cut yourself with a knife to draw some blood, isn't that easy?"

"My illness was caused by Jiang Chunzhi sending me to a man's bed! You told me to go abroad with Jiang Chunzhi, saying she would sponsor my piano studies, but she only treated me as a tool. How many more bad things will you do for that woman? She made you switch Sister Qiao Wan's depression medication, and she made you monitor and intimidate her. Now she wants to use you to kill someone!"

"Qiao Wan deserved it. Who told her to become a mistress and take her place? Even her husband bullied her. What kind of good person could she be?"

Qiao Wan took a step back.

She placed the beef noodles on the nurses' station and said, "Please give this to Zhang Manman, thank you."

She walked out of the hospital, filled with anger. She recalled the shadow of her illness, a time when she lived in darkness. How could there be such a bad person in this world? Utterly wicked.

With a thud, a dark figure fell freely from upstairs, landing right in front of her. Brain matter splattered onto Qiao Wan's trouser leg, and blood spread across the ground.

Qiao Wan's eyes were filled with terror. Zhang Manman's face was turned to the side, staring at Qiao Wan with her eyes wide open, her eyes full of resentment.

"Sister... I'm sorry... I couldn't help you..."

A tear slid down the corner of the girl's eye, and Zhang Manman breathed her last.

Qiao Wan was completely stunned, her mind went blank, and she fainted to the ground...

Ward.

"Mr. Pei, your wife has already taken the post-exposure prophylaxis medication. I suggest you take proper isolation measures, as it is still uncertain whether she is infected with HIV."

Pei Hansheng stood guard by Qiao Wan's bedside, his expression cold and stern.

He didn't respond to what the doctor said, and wouldn't leave even when told to.

Qiao Wan suddenly woke up, sat up in bed, and reached out to catch it.

Pei Hansheng handed her his hand, and Qiao Wan looked around blankly.

She wished it was all just a dream, but when she woke up she was still in the hospital, and the image of Zhang Manman's tragic death was still vivid in her mind.

Pei Hansheng reached out and hugged Qiao Wan, kissing her eyelids: "It's alright, it's all over, don't be afraid, Qiao Wan."

Qiao Wan's eyes were lifeless. Leaning on the man's shoulder, she stared out the window. The image of Zhang Manman jumping off the building kept flashing back to her. She was on the verge of a breakdown and suddenly burst into tears, pounding her fist on Pei Hansheng.

"I hate you so much! I hate all of you! That was a human life, a precious human life! Why did you condone Jiang Chunzhi's actions? You are a murderer too!"

Pei Hansheng let her rant, his face tense, waiting for her to calm down: "Qiao Wan, Zhang Manman committed suicide, it has nothing to do with anyone else."

Qiao Wan shoved Pei Hansheng away abruptly, her voice filled with hatred.

"Zhang Manman was killed by Jiang Chunzhi, and I'm next, Pei Hansheng. I really regret marrying you. If I had agreed to Ye Jizhou's proposal in college, even if I had stayed with Yi Yanzhi in Hong Kong, marrying any other man would have been better than you. I'm willing to risk my life to be your wife. Why did I have to meet you? Why didn't you divorce your wife and marry Jiang Chunzhi!"

Pei Hansheng's arm veins bulged as he controlled his emotions: "Did you forget to take your medicine again? I'll have someone prescribe some for you."

Qiao Wan got off the bed, grabbed Pei Hansheng by the collar, and kicked and hit him.

"Keep those drugs for yourself. You fed me poison for two years, driving me insane. You're such a good-for-nothing of yours, keeping me under surveillance and spying on me every day. No wonder I went crazy!"

Pei Hansheng frowned more and more deeply, raised an arm to pat Qiao Wan's back, but she pushed him away in resistance.

"Why are you overthinking again?"

"Don't touch me! I've slept with countless women outside, I'm filthy!"

"Qiao Wan!"

"Get out! Get out!"

The doctor walked in from outside: "Mr. Pei, your wife may be experiencing some post-traumatic stress. She doesn't want to see you. You'd better leave this room and not continue to agitate her."

Pei Hansheng roared at the doctor, "I'm her legal husband!"

"Yes, I know, but..."

Pei Hansheng said in a deep voice, glancing at Qiao Wan, who was curled up in a ball, looking helpless, like a little hedgehog whose quills had been plucked.

He wanted to hug her, but she stared at him warily, her eyes filled with hatred and hostility.

"I'll be right outside, call me anytime."

Pei Hansheng walked out of the ward and called Goldman Sachs, asking him to bring Qiao Wan's medicine from the drawer in Tan Shu's bedroom for testing.

Upon receiving the reports, he carefully read them one by one.

Just as Qiao Wan said, the medicine had been switched.

Pei Hansheng's mood plummeted; he was restless and anxious, yet powerless to do anything about it.

He punched the wall and called his men: "Where is Zhang Xiu? Take her to the hospital."

"After Zhang Manman jumped off the building, Zhang Xiu rushed out of the hospital and was hit by a car on the way. She was rushed to the hospital but is still unconscious."

Pei Hansheng stood outside the ward door, looking at the woman inside through the glass. Qiao Wan was still very scared, hugging herself and trembling all over, tears streaming down her face. The man felt as if his heart was being ripped out, and a sinister glint flashed in his eyes.

"There's no need for resuscitation."

The subordinate replied, "Understood."

After hanging up the phone, Pei Hansheng pushed open the door and walked in, scooping the person up with one arm.

"Come home with me. Staying here will only give you psychological trauma."

Qiao Wan resisted and struggled.

"Put me down! That's not home, it's hell on earth! You've tortured me so badly, I've paid back everything I owed you, and I want to live my own life!"

Pei Hansheng slung the woman over his shoulder and strode out of the hospital. He listened to her sobbing accusations, her expression dejected, her heart breaking, like a stray dog.
