The door was open, and Qiao Wan went into the room first.

Pei Hansheng followed her in and watched as she placed the food she had saved for him on the table, along with a bowl of steaming dumplings.

His heart warmed, and he wrapped his arms around Qiao Wan's waist from behind, pulling her into his embrace.

"I'm sorry for my tone of voice today."

His warm breath brushed against Qiao Wan's ear, causing her to involuntarily shrink back.

She lowered her eyes, her gaze calm and undisturbed, and asked him indifferently, "Did you eat at the hospital?"

"I just took a look and left." Pei Hansheng buried his face in Qiao Wan's neck, absorbing her soft warmth.

Qiao Wan felt ticklish and couldn't resist his teasing. She turned around, put her hand on his shoulder, and pushed him away.

"Then eat quickly."

Pei Hansheng lowered his eyes and stared at her intently, a glint of light appearing in his dark eyes.

"You're not angry anymore?"

Qiao Wan turned her face away, not wanting to answer the question.

If she were still angry about this, she would have died of anger long ago. But things are different now; she doesn't want to argue with him anymore.

She remained calm throughout: "Today is New Year's Eve, we should be happy."

Pei Hansheng pinched her cheek: "Jiang Chunzhi and I really don't have anything going on."

Qiao Wan remained unmoved.

What does this have to do with her? He's a single man now, so it doesn't matter if he marries someone else.

Pei Hansheng pulled out a dining chair and sat down. He was freezing outside, but at least there was a place to shelter him and someone had left him a warm meal.

He took her hand, sat down next to her, and asked her to eat with him.

Qiao Wan pursed her lips, wanting to find a suitable opportunity to bring up Ye Jizhou's matter.

But I just couldn't bring myself to speak.

Firstly, she was used to solving problems on her own; secondly, Pei Hansheng harbored deep hatred for Ye Jizhou, and she worried that this was not the right time.

She glanced at the man beside her. Pei Hansheng seemed very hungry. The dumplings she had made were also big, and he was eating them one by one with great relish.

She said in a low voice, "You eat first, I'm going to watch TV."

Pei Hansheng put down his chopsticks, took out a tissue, and slowly wiped his mouth: "I'm done eating, let's watch together."

He followed Qiao Wan closely, clinging to her like a big wolfhound.

He pulled her into his arms again in no time.

"You agreed to let me stay overnight, which means you agree that I can do whatever I want, right?"

Qiao Wan did not resist, feeling unbearably hot as he enveloped her burning body.

Pei Hansheng pushed her onto the sofa and turned on the TV, which was showing a variety show.

Qiao Wan nestled in his arms, her mind preoccupied with something.

Neither of them paid any attention to what was on TV.

"When I was a child, the happiest thing about Chinese New Year was that I didn't have to study and could play with my relatives' children all day long. Back then, we would set off fireworks, play the piano, and dance together."

Pei Hansheng leaned lazily against the sofa, his thin lips brushing against Qiao Wan's ear.

As they talked about their childhood, the atmosphere became warm and affectionate.

Qiao Wan recalled her childhood at her adoptive parents' home in Gangcheng. During the Lunar New Year, she was responsible for cooking and washing dishes, and she also washed all the family's underwear. She also had to endure Qiao Jiadong's malicious gaze and sexual harassment.

She and Pei Hansheng lived in completely different worlds, to the point that she felt it was unreal.

Pei Hansheng's fingertips twirled a strand of her hair, his eyes brimming with laughter as he gazed at her face: "Do you have any New Year's wishes?"

Qiao Wan said, "I hope that the people I care about are safe and sound and that everything goes well for them."

Pei Hansheng automatically put himself in her shoes, pressing his forehead against hers: "I will."

Qiao Wan forced a smile.

For some reason, she could only feel Pei Hansheng's love after the divorce, but this love was like a chicken rib to her, tasteless and unappealing.

Pei Hansheng lowered his head and kissed her lips.

The TV was showing a countdown to the New Year, and the two were kissing passionately, crossing over from the old year to the new.

Like dropping a spark, once ignited, it becomes unstoppable.

They left many marks in the living room and in front of the window.

The world before Qiao Wan's eyes kept shaking. Her hand was held tightly against the window by Pei Hansheng. Along with the fireworks, she herself was also blooming.

Her back felt like it was about to break. She turned her head to the side and touched Pei Hansheng's forehead, which was wet with sweat.

"Can you promise me something?"

Pei Hansheng couldn't stop, enveloped by an indescribable excitement: "Speak."

"Stop pursuing Ye Jizhou's responsibility; we have already been punished."

The boiling spark in Pei Hansheng's eyes instantly died down, leaving only brutality and savagery, like a punishment.

He gripped Qiao Wan's neck, tightening his grip even more.

"Ye Jizhou spent four years in jail, and what about you, Qiao Wan? What punishment did you receive?"

Qiao Wan bit her lip, feeling completely exhausted. Her fingers dug into the man's broad back, leaving bloody scratches.

Pei Hansheng watched as she furrowed her brows in pain, as if she were being tortured, showing no sign of enjoyment whatsoever.

His eyes were red-rimmed as he finally realized that Qiao Wan truly no longer loved him, even his body was resisting her.

Tonight was a joke; she slept with him only to plead for Ye Jizhou.

After the final match, Pei Hansheng's heart turned completely cold, and the frost that had formed in his eyes was enough to destroy the world.

He pinched Qiao Wan's chin, coldly saying, "You can plead for Ye Jizhou, but he won't be out of there until you get pregnant."

Qiao Wan stared into his chilling eyes, then curled her lips into a mocking smile: "You're not worthy."

Pei Hansheng's eyes widened in shock, stung by her nonchalant indifference.

"Then tell Ye Jizhou to stay inside forever and never come out."

Qiao Wan's face turned deathly pale: "No!"

Pei Hansheng pinched her chin, his laughter tinged with sorrow: "Look at you, begging for a man, Qiao Wan. I've raised you for so many years, how come you still can't learn pride and self-respect?"

Qiao Wan clenched her hands and smiled faintly.

"You don't seem to have learned respect and understanding either; we've never been on the same path."

A look of surprise flashed across Pei Hansheng's eyes, and he tightened his grip: "If you want to be on the same path as me, first consider how much sincerity you've put in."

He released his grip, and Qiao Wan, utterly exhausted, collapsed to the ground, naked and hunched over, her face obscured by shadows.

Pei Hansheng's face flashed with annoyance. He subconsciously reached out to catch her, but was met with a gaze from her that was colder than winter.

His hand froze in mid-air. He picked up his coat from the sofa and threw it at Qiao Wan.

"Put them on."

Qiao Wan was too exhausted to stand, so she knelt on the ground, panting slightly.

Pei Hansheng gritted his teeth, bent down, picked her up, and walked into the bedroom.

He changed Qiao Wan into pajamas, not wanting her to look so disheveled.

"I will consider what you said, but on one condition: I must stay here every night."

Qiao Wan's eyelashes trembled slightly.

"So you're giving up on pursuing Ye Jizhou?"

Pei Hansheng's face was clouded with a hint of frost. He sneered, leaned forward, and once again pinned Qiao Wan beneath him...
