Ghost Immortal

Chapter 36 The Tomb

Li Feng was pushed along in the middle, clearly these guys were afraid he would escape.

He went with the flow and squeezed into the crack sideways.

The crack was a narrow natural rock fissure, with the rocks on both sides damp and dripping water.

The ground beneath your feet is uneven, and you can hear the sound of gravel rolling when you step on it.

At first it was extremely narrow, barely wide enough for one person to pass through, but after walking several dozen steps, it suddenly opened up into a bright and spacious area.

The tomb passage is about one and a half meters high, with the two walls made of blue bricks, and dark yellow burial soil powder seeping out from the brick seams.

The tomb passage was paved with stone slabs, on which crooked runes were carved, appearing somewhat blurry.

The one-eyed old man lit a candle made of corpse oil and held it in front of him to clear the way.

The candlelight was a pale green, casting a thin green halo on the walls of the tomb passage.

"Light the candles and stay close to me."

The one-eyed old man gave a low command and glanced back.

The five people each lit a candle made of corpse oil and walked along the tomb passage.

The tomb passage wasn't too long; after about thirty steps, three paths appeared in front of us.

The one-eyed old man took out a handful of glutinous rice from his pocket and scattered it toward the three forks in the road.

The glutinous rice fell to the ground, and the glutinous rice on the far left fork in the road turned grayish-black in the blink of an eye.

The middle one turns pale yellow, and the one on the far right is the lightest color.

"The left side has the heaviest yin energy; you can't go there."

The one-eyed old man, with a serious expression, pointed to the fork in the road and commented.

"Let's take this route. The middle path has a moderate level of yin energy, so it should be the safest one."

The five people turned into the middle fork in the road, and after walking about fifty steps, a stone gate appeared in front of them.

The stone gate is over two zhang tall, with a smooth and flat surface, without any decorations or inscriptions, except for a crescent-shaped groove in the very center.

The one-eyed old man turned around, his only remaining right eye staring straight at Li Feng: "Watchman, now you can put what you have in your hands to good use."

Li Feng immediately took out the golden crescent moon from his pocket and walked to the stone gate.

The size and shape of the crescent moon perfectly matched the groove. He pressed the crescent moon into the groove and gently pushed it in.

"Snap!"

As the sound of mechanisms turning came from inside the stone door, the stone door slowly opened to both sides, revealing the tomb chamber behind it.

A dense, dark aura, long dormant for who knows how long, suddenly surged out of the tomb.

It was cold and chilling, with a smell of decaying dust.

The five people's corpse oil candles swayed simultaneously, the flames were blown to one side by the yin energy, but they did not go out.

The one-eyed old man was the first to enter the tomb chamber carrying a candle, followed closely by the others.

The moment Li Feng stepped across the stone threshold, he suddenly felt the small cauldron hanging on his chest tremble slightly.

I couldn't help but wonder if there was something nearby that I could cook and eat.

He glanced around calmly.

This is a spacious antechamber with walls made of blue bricks. Several bronze oil lamps, long since extinguished, hang on the walls, their oil dried into hard, black lumps.

In the antechamber stood a large stone altar table, upon which were several rusted bronze ritual vessels and offerings that had rotted into ash.

On the wall behind the offering table, there is a tattered mural.

The content of the mural is blurry and indistinct; only the outlines of figures and cloud patterns can be vaguely discerned.

The brushstrokes are bold and simple, and the colors are mainly vermilion and ink black, which have a solemn and mysterious feel unique to ancient times.

The one-eyed old man walked around the front room, tapping the walls and floor with the yin-probing needle in his hand.

After confirming there were no traps, he waved to signal everyone to continue forward.

Behind the antechamber is a wider tomb passage, at the end of which appears an even larger stone gate.

The stone door was already half open, and a faint light shone through the crack.

The faint, dark blue light resembled the eyes of a fish in the deep sea.

The one-eyed old man stopped, his expression turning serious: "Everyone be careful, there might be something inside!"

The five people tiptoed, slowly approaching the stone door along the wall of the tomb passage.

As he approached the crack in the door, the one-eyed old man peeked inside, his body instantly stiffening, his right eye widening and his mouth gaping open.

The shovel asked in a low voice, "What did you see? Why are you making that weird face?"

The one-eyed old man didn't speak, but simply stepped aside, indicating that he could see for himself.

When Tiechao peeked through the crack in the door, he couldn't help but gasp, his face trembling with fear.

After examining the bronze seal and beads in turn, he was utterly shocked, his eyes revealing an undisguised greed.

Li Feng was pushed to the back by them. He waited until they had seen enough, then walked to the crack in the door and looked inside.

Behind the door was a huge main burial chamber, several times more spacious than the front chamber.

The dome of the tomb chamber is about three zhang high, and dozens of luminous pearls are inlaid on the dome, arranged in the shape of stars. It is the dark blue light emitted by these pearls that illuminates the entire tomb chamber in a dark blue light.

The walls of the tomb chamber were densely covered with talismans, the yellow talismans stretching from the floor to the ceiling without any gaps.

Each talisman was covered with extremely complex runes drawn in cinnabar.

Li Feng had never seen these runes on the tattered book before; the runes resembled flames and chains.

The edges of the talisman paper had turned yellow and curled, but the cinnabar on the talisman was still as bright as blood.

It seems that for hundreds of years after the talismans were affixed, these runes have been silently operating, suppressing something.

In the center of the tomb chamber lies the enormous coffin of the tomb's occupant.

The coffin was about twelve feet long, six feet wide, and seven feet high. It was entirely black and covered with intricate cloud and thunder patterns and mythical beast totems.

Beneath the coffin were three layers of bluestone bases, each layer engraved with a ring of suppressing runes. The engravings of the runes were filled with a dark red substance, it was unknown whether it was cinnabar or the blood of some kind of living being.

The entire coffin was firmly locked by eight iron chains as thick as an arm, the other ends of which were fixed to eight bronze pillars at the four corners of the tomb.

The iron chains were also wrapped with talismans, with dozens of talismans hanging on each chain, layered upon each other, looking like countless withered yellow hands tightly gripping the chains under the dark blue light.

The aura emanating from the coffin was extremely strange, similar to a trapping formation. It seemed that this was not for burying the living or sending the souls of the dead to the afterlife, but rather for suppressing evil spirits.

The one-eyed old man addressed the crowd: "The door is sealed with burial soil, the walls are sealed with talismans, and the coffin is locked with iron chains—a triple suppression. The person imprisoned here is definitely not an ordinary person!"

The shovel licked its chapped lips, its eyes fixed on the coffin, already itching to open it.

"The more important the person, the more valuable their burial goods. The talismans on the walls of this tomb are worth a lot of spirit stones. The luminous pearls on the dome are all deep-sea pearls that are over a hundred years old. You can exchange one of them for ten low-grade spirit stones."

Tong Yin looked at the eight iron chains on the coffin, equally excited.

"Putting everything else aside, these eight iron chains locking the coffin are extraordinary. They're made of cold iron, mixed with silver mother metal, specifically designed to ward off evil spirits. A single chain, if sold to those Taoist priests, would be worth at least fifty spirit stones!"
