Ghost Immortal
Chapter 32 Cooperation
Li Feng asked curiously, "What are you looking for? What's it for?"
The one-eyed old man turned to look at his companion and shouted.
"Kid, knowing too much won't do you any good. Hand over the stuff, and we'll let you go. Tonight's events will be considered as if they never happened. You can continue your night watch, and we'll continue our tomb raiding. We'll have nothing to do with each other."
Li Feng didn't move; he wasn't stupid.
Once the goods are handed over, these guys will show their fangs.
He leaned against the wooden pillar, looking at the four of them with a mocking gaze.
Although the one-eyed old man was smiling, his fingers were always resting on the yin-detecting needle at his waist, ready to strike at any moment.
The burly man had slightly raised his shovel, and the earthen-yellow magical energy rolled on the blade.
The tall, thin man in the black robe turned the bronze seal in his hand, and the runes on the seal surface began to glow.
Even the seemingly calm woman had a black bead between her fingers.
These four people had no intention of letting him go.
Although Li Feng didn't know all the rules of tomb raiding, there was one rule that applied to any profession.
Anything that comes into the light must either be shared or silenced.
He saw the faces of the four men and knew their relationship with Zhao Laosan.
Even if they hand over Crescent Moon, they will never let him leave this alley alive.
If it were Li Feng himself, he would never have allowed the secret to be leaked.
Conversely, if they really need him to replace Zhao Laosan's role, then he is actually safe.
"I'm not handing it over. Do you think I'm a three-year-old?" Li Feng sneered.
The burly man raised his shovel high, and earthen-yellow magical power exploded on the blade, a dull pressure pressing down on Li Feng.
"Kid, you're so ungrateful! I think you're asking for death!"
"Kill me, and you won't get that thing." Li Feng looked at him without changing his expression, showing no fear whatsoever.
"I've hidden the things in a place you'll never find, and even if you kill me now, the constables will find the newly appointed night watchman's body lying in the alley tomorrow morning."
"Zhao Laosan's case isn't closed yet, and now another murder has occurred. Do you think the county magistrate will treat it as just an ordinary murder case? Will you still be able to hide then?"
The burly man's shovel stopped in mid-air, his face flushed red, as if he had swallowed a dead fly.
The tall, thin man in the black robe said coldly, "Boy, your life is still in our hands! How dare you threaten us?"
"It's not a threat, it's negotiating terms," Li Feng said, turning to the one-eyed old man and spreading his hands.
"What Zhao Laosan can do, I can do too. He has an eye for stones, and so do I. He's just an ordinary person who can go into tombs with you, but I'm a proper Taoist cultivator, many times better than him."
The one-eyed old man's right eye flickered slightly, and he asked in surprise, "You're actually a cultivator?"
Li Feng no longer concealed himself and loosened his concealment technique slightly.
The vortex in his dantian accelerated slightly, and pure spiritual energy emanated from his body, though it only released the intensity of about five inches of spiritual root.
The spiritual energy was clear and pure, a genuine Taoist practice, completely different from the mixed tomb energy of these four tomb raiders.
The four looked at each other again, their eyes filled with surprise.
"They really are from the Taoist sect!"
The tall, thin man in the black robe looked Li Feng up and down, his tone becoming cautious.
"How did you, a Taoist cultivator, end up working as a night watchman in Qingyan City?"
The Taoist sect is one of the three major religions, a legitimate sect of superior beings, a branch of Brahmanism. How could it possibly have fallen to such a despicable state?
Li Feng casually made up a lie: "My family has fallen on hard times, and I'm just trying to make a living. My cousin was Zhang Gengtou, and after he died, I took over his position."
"But my cultivation level is the result of real hard work, and it's no worse than yours. You brought Zhao Laosan into the tomb simply because you value his knowledge of stones and his ability to help you identify the stones and mechanisms inside. I know much more—talismans, formations, and spells. These are certainly more useful in the tomb than recognizing stones, aren't they?"
The one-eyed old man immediately fell into deep thought.
He turned and walked to a corner of the yard, where he spoke quietly with the other three.
Li Feng activated his five senses and could vaguely hear the content of their argument.
The burly man said he had searched Li Feng's entire body but couldn't find anything.
The tall, thin man in the black robe worried that Li Feng might have really hidden Crescent Moon, and that it would be troublesome if they lost the clues. The woman, on the other hand, gave a sinister sneer and said that it would be perfect to let Li Feng be cannon fodder to scout ahead.
A moment later, the one-eyed old man returned.
He grinned at Li Feng: "Kid, what you said makes some sense, but we need to clarify the rules first."
"Going into tombs is not child's play. Your life is your own. If someone is not skilled enough, no one will collect their body if they die in the tomb. If you are willing to team up with us, that's fine, but you have to follow our rules."
"We'll take 70% of what's in the tomb, and you'll take 30%. If we encounter any danger, neither of us can expect the other to save us. If you drag us down, don't blame us for turning our backs on you."
Li Feng sneered inwardly.
That old man talks a good game, but he knows exactly what he's up to.
These tomb raiders deal with the dead year-round; their hearts are harder than the old zombies in the tombs.
Their promise to take him to the tomb is nothing more than a delaying tactic.
Once you're in the grave, there are plenty of ways to make yourself die unexpectedly.
When the time comes, the items will naturally return to them, and they'll also have a scapegoat to take the blame—a win-win situation.
But that's exactly what Li Feng wanted.
They wanted to kill him in the tomb, and he also wanted to uncover the secrets of the crescent moon in the tomb.
Who has the faster knife and the quicker mind? We'll only find out once we're in the tomb.
Li Feng nodded in surprise: "What time? Where should we meet? This is my first time doing something like this, I'm really looking forward to it."
The one-eyed old man enjoyed dealing with these hotheads. He chuckled and said, "Tomorrow night at midnight, at the Earth God Temple in the north of the city. Don't be late, and don't bring anyone else. If you dare to try anything funny, my Yin-probing needle is no joke."
After he finished speaking, he waved his hand, and the four of them quietly left the courtyard, just as they had come.
The woman was the last to leave, and as she passed Li Feng, she suddenly stopped.
Her voice was very soft, as if she was afraid of being overheard.
"Young man, may I ask you a question? When Zhao Laosan died, were his eyes open or closed?"
Recalling the scene, Li Feng blurted out, "It was open."
The woman's face instantly darkened, but she quickly pretended to be nonchalant and hurried to catch up with the three people in front of her.
Li Feng stood in the dilapidated courtyard, watching their figures disappear, his eyes growing cold.
He took out the golden crescent moon from his sleeve and examined it closely under the lamplight.
The patterns on the crescent moon's surface seemed clearer than before, and the dark red bead in the center, illuminated by the firelight, resembled a fire dragon swimming in the air.
This thing is definitely not an ordinary tomb raiding trophy. The fact that it can make four tomb raiders with seven-inch spiritual roots so nervous, and that it can make Zhao Laosan walk around like a living person even after being dead for ten days, suggests that what's hidden behind it is probably deeper than he imagined.
