Ghost Immortal
Chapter 22 Ghost Realm
As soon as Li Feng entered the courtyard, the gate slammed shut.
The ground beneath his feet felt as soft as cotton, and thick, black water seeped from the cracks in the blue bricks. The black water surged and overflowed the soles of his straw sandals, and a chilling, bone-deep coldness crept up his ankles.
The courtyard walls, eaves, and lintels were all covered with talismans.
The talisman paper changed color in the blink of an eye, the yellowed talisman paper quickly rotted, curled up and turned black as if burned, the cinnabar runes, blood-red liquid seeped out and flowed down the wall.
The old locust tree in the yard had a dozen or so cracks in its trunk, resembling various faces screaming in agony.
The faces were male and female, old and young, with mouths stretched to their ears, howling silently.
Li Feng glanced back at the wooden door behind him.
The wooden door has disappeared, leaving only a grayish-blue brick wall covered with countless scratch marks left by unknown claws.
Li Feng's face darkened, and he asked coldly, "Uncle Zhang, what do you mean by this?"
"Hehehe!!"
A hoarse, eerie laugh came from behind him.
The laughter was sharp and piercing, a stark contrast to the previously gentle and kind Zhang Gengtou.
Li Feng turned around and saw that Zhang Gengtou's attire was completely different.
The paper lantern he was carrying had its thin paper covering peeled away piece by piece, revealing a bloody human head underneath!
The skullcap was neatly cut off, filled with dark yellow grease, and a blackened lamp wick was soaking in the grease, igniting a ghostly green flame.
The human head still retains its appearance from when it was alive, with its eyes tightly closed, its nose sunken, and the corners of its mouth turned up as if it were smiling.
The clapper he held in his right hand was made of dark yellow hardwood that had split open, and dense, rotten yellow teeth grew out of the crack.
The clapper expands and lengthens section by section, curving into an arc, and sharp edges are ground on both sides of the clapper.
In just a few breaths, the clapper transformed into a four-foot-long cleaver, its blade wrapped in dark red blood vessels that were still wriggling, like blood vessels flowing with blood.
The copper bell at his waist fell off automatically, rolled several times on the ground with a "ding-a-ling" sound, and crawled out of it a swarm of insects with long, dense legs.
"What do you mean?"
Zhang Geng tilted his head, the wrinkles on his face cracking, revealing the bluish-black blood vessels beneath his skin.
His head and eyes swelled up, as if they were bloated from being soaked in water, with the whites of his eyes filling them, turning him into a terrifying version of a big-headed doll.
"Didn't I warn you? The rules of Qingyan City are: don't go out after dark, don't turn off the lights when the door is open, don't make a sound when the lights are off, and don't open the door if you make a sound!"
He raised the lantern with the human head on it, and the eerie green flames illuminated his old face, making him appear even more sinister and terrifying.
"Since you broke the rules, you have to pay the price! And the price is your life!"
Li Feng stared at him expressionlessly, his right hand tucked into his sleeve, lightning crackling at his fingertips.
"Were all those things you said in the alley false?"
Zhang Gengtou chuckled: "It's not entirely false. There are indeed unclean things that appear in Qingyan City after dark, and the night watchman's profession is indeed an old one passed down for seven generations. The three ancestral items in the old man's hand are genuine night watchman's magical artifacts, but they are not used to exorcise ghosts."
He licked his chapped lips, his eyes gleaming with a fierce red light.
"It's used for killing!"
As soon as he finished speaking, the black energy in the courtyard instantly became chaotic.
Black smoke billowed from the crack in the withered locust tree, coalescing into a black dragon that lunged at Li Feng with bared fangs and claws.
The black water on the ground surged, forming waves half a person high, and covered Li Feng from all directions.
The blurry ghostly figures crouching in the corner also stood up, taking stiff steps and stretching out their withered arms to strangle him.
At the same time, Zhang Gengtou's blood-red cleaver flashed like a crimson moon, slashing towards Li Feng's neck.
The slash made no sound; the air was cut open by the blade, and instead of closing, it left only a black crack.
Ghostland!
A term from the tattered book naturally popped into Li Feng's mind.
The Ghost Realm is an independent space created by ghost cultivators, existing between Yin and Yang. It is not an array, but it is even more bizarre than an array.
Within the Ghost Realm, the strength of ghost cultivators is greatly enhanced, while the five senses and spiritual energy circulation of outsiders are suppressed.
The entrance to the Ghost Realm can be disguised as anything—a house, a courtyard, or even a door.
Once you step into it, it's like stepping into the world of ghost cultivators.
Zhang Gengtou had been rambling on and on about so much nonsense in the alley earlier.
It's nothing more than stalling for time to ensure Li Feng fully enters the Ghost Domain, so they can control him.
Li Feng had been waiting, waiting for him to make the first move.
"peak!"
Li Feng gave a low shout.
"Bang!"
A muffled explosion came from outside the courtyard wall, as the blue brick wall was smashed through by a dark blue fist.
Amidst flying bricks and stones, the nine-foot-tall armored giant burst through the wall.
Gao Feng landed behind Li Feng, his eyes burning with eerie green flames, and the two horns on his head emitting a blinding purple light.
The moment it landed, a violent demonic aura mixed with yin energy exploded outwards from it, instantly trapping Li Feng in the pit as well.
While this style of performance was domineering, it wasn't exactly unseemly.
The blurry ghostly figures that had gathered around were all sent flying backward by the demonic energy, crashing into the wall and shattering into wisps of black smoke.
The waves formed by the black water were also dissipated under the impact of the demonic energy of the peak, splashing the ground with foul-smelling liquid.
The unexpected turn of events left Zhang Gengtou looking horrified.
Before his blood-red cleaver could reach Li Feng's neck, Gao Feng had already stepped in front of Li Feng, his dark blue-black giant hand reaching out to grab at the blade.
clang!
The blood-stained cleaver struck Gao Feng's palm, sparks flying everywhere.
The blood streaks on the blade frantically burrowed into Gao Feng's palm, trying to absorb his soul.
But Gao Feng is a half-demon, and his soul is already in a daze. How could he let it absorb it?
Gao Feng clenched his five fingers together, gripped the blade, and snapped it downwards.
Click!
With a crisp crack, the blood-stained cleaver was snapped in two.
From where the blade broke, a large amount of dark red blood spurted out, splattering all over Zhang Gengtou's face.
Blood splattered onto his blue shirt, burning countless holes in it.
Zhang Gengtou retreated repeatedly, clutching half a broken knife in his hand, his expression growing increasingly horrified.
"An armored corpse? How could you, a mere brat with a three-inch spiritual root, possess an armored corpse with a ten-inch spiritual root?!"
His screams were shrill and piercing; the situation was completely out of his control.
The next moment, the gray hairs on his head stood up, revealing dense blue runes on his scalp, which was the mark of a ghost cultivator.
Only by transforming oneself into a half-human, half-ghost can one command the ghost realm.
"Who told you it was a three-inch spiritual root? You've managed to survive for so many years, and you're still so naive."
Li Feng stepped out from behind Gao Feng, his right palm blazing with lightning. His five palms flickered and danced, illuminating the entire Ghost Realm with its intermittent light and darkness.
The vortex of energy in his dantian spun at full speed, and the spiritual power of his nine-inch spiritual root surged like a flood bursting its banks, flowing into his limbs and bones.
The spiritual energy surging through his meridians roared like waves crashing against the shore. The black water beneath his feet was forced back by the pressure of the spiritual energy, and the blood seeping from the courtyard wall was also forced to flow backward by this force!
All the ghostly figures formed by the yin energy in the ghost realm screamed in terror, like a group of earthworms scorched by the sun, frantically burrowing into the cracks in the walls and under the floor tiles.
Zhang Geng staggered back several steps, exclaiming in utter shock, "You little brat, you've been hiding it well! You actually have a nine-inch spiritual root!"
