Cthulhu Panel: One organ mutates every day

Chapter 88 Farewell and Return Journey

Wayne closed the door to room 213 behind him:

"No problem, there's enough time. Have you had breakfast?"

Charlotte shook her head:

"What? You want to invite me to eat with you?"

Wayne denies:

"No, I just noticed you know my sister, so I wanted to invite you to have breakfast with her."

At the same time, he thought to himself, 'I should at least find out what kind of relationship you have with my sister.'

Charlotte's eyes darted around, seemingly seeing right through Wayne's thoughts, and she agreed:

"Okay, let's do it together."

So Wayne took Charlotte down to the hotel lobby reception to inquire about Rosalind's room.

After the competitive eating contest ended last night, everyone who had a place to stay went back to their accommodations as planned.

Rosalind's schedule was already booked, so she also communicated with her assistant to return to her pre-booked room to rest.

Soon, Wayne and Charlotte arrived at Rosalind's room and knocked.

Rosalind pushed open the door and saw Wayne and Charlotte; her eyes widened in surprise.

"Wayne, you...and Charlotte, how did you two end up together? And Wayne, aren't you studying at the University of Michigan?"

It was clear that Rosalind seemed to have forgotten something.

Wayne smiled and said obediently:

"Sis, I'll explain later. I don't think we'll be busy this morning. Let's have breakfast together."

Rosalind glanced at the bite mark on Wayne's neck and blinked:

"Okay, you two wait while I get ready."

……

Ten minutes later.

Inside the restaurant on the first floor of the Grand Hotel.

The restaurant wasn't crowded; most of the guests were well-dressed and distinguished, chatting quietly in a relaxed atmosphere.

A seat by the window.

Sunlight streamed through the window.

Rosalind was wearing a well-tailored light white wool suit, her long hair loosely tied up, and she was looking down at the newspaper in her hand.

On the table in front of me was a latte and a slice of fine toast.

Wayne and Charlotte took some smoked salmon, truffle scrambled eggs, freshly baked croissants, and some freshly squeezed juice from the dining table and sat down opposite Rosalind.

The restaurant was filled with melodious piano music and warm lighting.

Rosalind spoke first:

"So, what brings you to the Metropolis all of a sudden? Did something happen at school?"

Wayne shook his head and stuffed food into his mouth:

"no."

Rosalind glanced at Wayne and Charlotte with a puzzled look, hesitated, and took a small sip of her latte.

"Then why did you come here?"

Wayne smiled:

"I just happened to be here to relax during a break from my studies, and I ran into Uncle Harrington. I knew you were here too, so it was quite a coincidence that we bumped into each other here."

Rosalind put down her latte, her brow furrowing slightly.

"Harrington, it seems he's coming to Metropolis to investigate some unusual company activities."

Wayne paused for a moment, then tentatively asked:

"Sis, what brings you to the Metropolis this time?"

Rosalind briefly recalled:

"My sister came to the Metropolitan Metropolitan Government to check on some business matters, and she'll be busy again later."

Wayne continued to ask:

"Sister, do you remember when you came to the metropolis?"

Rosalind's doubts:

"It was probably yesterday afternoon, but I was a bit busy yesterday and slept very soundly. When did you arrive at the Metropolitan City?"

Wei Enqian chuckled twice:

"Sis, do you remember when our Weber Company funded some kind of... competitive eating contest?"

Rosalind was puzzled:

"What kind of competition is this...? Is it related to our company's business?"

Wei En breathed a long sigh of relief.

It seems Rosalind doesn't remember what happened last night, let alone the competitive eating contest.

Once the Second Department has dealt with the relevant important accounts, this matter will basically be over.

As long as the second department exerts sufficient effort, even if someone finds some clues and realizes that such a large-scale event had occurred, they will not be able to find any evidence to corroborate it.

Wayne glanced at Charlotte sitting next to him.

Charlotte was eating her breakfast by herself when she glanced at Wayne.

Wayne thought to himself, 'I still need to test Charlotte's relationship with Rosalind...'

Rosalind glanced at the bluish-black bite mark on Wayne's neck, then looked at Charlotte, and a smile gradually appeared on her face:

"Wayne, that's... Charlotte, isn't she your senior from school?"

Noticing Rosalind's gaze, Wayne gently covered the bite mark on his neck and nodded.

"Hmm, she must be a senior student."

Charlotte found the atmosphere subtle and quite interesting, so she watched quietly without saying a word.

Rosalind continued to ask:

"So...did you choose the University of Michigan because of her?"

Wayne continued nodding;

"So, sis, what exactly is your relationship with Charlotte?"

Rosalind didn't hide anything, revealing a relieved smile:

"I've had dealings with your sister Charlotte's parents' generation, so I've known her for a long time. I was thinking of introducing you two to each other when I reached a certain age, but I didn't expect you two to get together so soon..."

Wayne glanced at Charlotte again.

Charlotte was exchanging glances with Rosalind when she noticed Wayne's gaze and slowly explained, "Oh right, Wayne and I already know each other."

Rosalind smiled, her eyes crinkling:

"I can see that, it's fine."

Wayne thought about it and decided not to argue any further. After all, it wasn't Charlotte, and his sister Rosalind would introduce other girls.

The other girls were naturally not as good as Charlotte.

It wasn't about looks or family background, but rather that Charlotte was both with the Michigan Special Affairs Bureau and the University of Michigan, making her a suitable person to get along with.

As long as Rosalind can be put at ease for a while, that's fine.

Seeing that Wayne did not refute, Rosalind said no more and continued eating her breakfast.

After breakfast.

Around eight o'clock.

Rosalind summoned her assistant to accompany her, and she took Wayne and Charlotte on a simple shopping trip.

In one go, I selected several sets of neatly tailored casual wear and a few pairs of breathable sneakers suitable for outings for Wayne.

Then he took a fancy to a simple dress from the same collection, along with soft leather loafers and a finely textured cowhide handbag, which he gifted to Charlotte.

Pack them all together neatly.

They went to a high-end suit shop and asked an old tailor to make several suits for Wayne. After they were made, they asked someone to send them to Wayne at the University of Michigan.

Since Wayne didn't have a University of Michigan accommodation address yet, Rosalind could only smile and hold Charlotte's hand, hoping Charlotte would accept the package on her behalf.

Charlotte readily agreed.

Around 10:30 a.m.

Wayne and Charlotte parted ways with Rosalind at the hotel entrance.

The assistant had already carried two large suitcases of new clothes downstairs at the hotel. Charlotte was holding the handbag from earlier, her fingertips caressing the delicate leather, a slight smile playing on her lips.

As for the rat extermination equipment and heavy firepower in Wayne's room, the Second Division was notified this morning, and the Metropolitan Police Department was dispatched to assist in handling it.

Wei thanked his sister Rosalind repeatedly.

Rosalind raised her hand to smooth out the wrinkles in Wayne's collar, glanced at the dark blue bite mark on Wayne's neck, and patted Charlotte's hand, repeatedly reminding the two to be careful on their journey.

Goodbye is over.

Wayne and Charlotte boarded the hotel's private shuttle to Metropolitan Station, where they took a train to Michigan and began their journey home.

Wei En sat in the car, his thoughts wandering.

"I wonder how things are going in Michigan, any new developments regarding the face symbol and the painter."

Why do I have this uneasy feeling that something's not right?
