Charlotte pursed her lips, her face showing struggle, unwilling to give up:

Why?

Wayne, with a serious expression, glanced at Rosalind, who was still talking to a senator in the distance, and shook his head with a wry smile:

"First, my intuition tells me that if I leave, my sister will be in danger, and the outcome will be irreversible. So I need to stay with her so I can take appropriate action at any time."

"Secondly. My intuition tells me that if I were a professional investigator, given my personality, staying would be my choice. Even though I can't be sure what gives me the confidence to stay, I'm sure I do have some reasons."

Charlotte was completely stunned.

Is it all based on intuition? That's insane.

I originally wanted to go to his room to find more evidence of his identity as an investigator, so that he would believe in his identity and I could then take him away smoothly.

But now it seems that producing more evidence is futile. In fact, given his current state, if he is certain that he is the investigator, he is even less likely to leave.

Thinking this through, Charlotte chuckled to herself.

It turns out that investigators can go to such lengths when faced with the unknown.

Those messengers chosen by those important figures were indeed extraordinary; I had been too naive.

She composed herself, her anxiety subsiding, and looked at Wayne with a calm gaze:

"Alright, Wayne, I believe you, but there's one more thing you need to remember."

"What is it?" Wayne raised an eyebrow.

"Facing the past head-on, it would be best to unleash some extreme emotions, which might buy us a chance to catch our breath," Charlotte said firmly.

"Extreme emotions? Okay, I'll remember that. Although what you said is a bit cryptic, and I don't know why you suddenly brought up the past, I still believe in you." Wayne spoke with a hint of unfounded confidence.

"Then I'm off. I need to meet up with my colleagues from Section Two. Take care, and see you later." Charlotte waved slightly.

"Okay, see you later."

Wayne nodded, watching Charlotte's figure disappear into the crowd.

After finishing her conversation with the middle-aged senator, Rosalind walked towards Wayne and asked, puzzled:

"Where's Charlotte? Aren't you two going out to play?"

Wayne made up a reason:

"She suddenly remembered that she already had plans for tonight, so she arranged to meet me for tomorrow night."

Rosalind hesitated for a moment, then laughed and joked:

"Really? Did you do something to upset her?"

Wei En was helpless:

"No, I didn't. Why would I make her angry? Sis, don't worry about it."

Rosalind stepped forward and gently took Wayne's arm:

"Alright, alright, I'm relieved to see you've made progress. Let's go, I'll introduce you to the important people slowly."

"Here we have not only city councilors from the metropolitan area, but also Councilor Evans, and some directors from companies we do business with..."

……

Rosalind took Wayne's arm and led him through the lounge and banquet hall, introducing him to the celebrities along the way.

Whenever Rosalind met a member of parliament, a director of a partner company, or a representative of a conglomerate, she would help Wayne understand the other party's identity, the project being worked on, and the core interests involved, while also giving Wayne pointers on how to conduct the conversation.

Throughout the conversation, she subtly engaged Wayne in conversation, elevating him at just the right moment while simultaneously solidifying the cooperative relationship with Weber Enterprises.

Even though Wayne was reluctant to accept these social obligations, she still went along with her sister's wishes and dealt with round after round of polite exchanges and probing.

About half an hour later.

Rosalind glanced at the time and said:

"It's almost seven o'clock, the event is about to start, let's get ready to go."

Wayne asked, "Where to?"

"Times Square, the scene of the competitive eating contest," Rosalind said.

Some guests had already left, seemingly heading to the game in Times Square.

Wei En hesitated for a moment, just about to advise her sister not to go on stage to participate in the competition.

Never thought.

Congressman Evans came over again and saw Rosalind arm in arm with Wayne, looking quite intimate. After looking them over, he noticed that their features were indeed similar, and said:

"This must be young Master Webber. Just like you, you're both very handsome, haha."

Wei En suddenly felt a little uneasy.

Why did Congressman Evans suddenly appear just as he was about to dissuade his sister?

He had almost left with Charlotte before, but then Senator Evans suddenly appeared.

Although his final choice was to stay regardless of whether Evans appeared or not, such a series of coincidences was a bit too strange.

Rosalind introduced with a smile:

"This is my younger brother, Wayne, who is currently studying at the University of Michigan. Wayne, please meet with Congressman Evans soon. He oversees the Metropolitan Energy Storage and Transportation sector and has been a great help to us all along."

Wayne nodded politely, his manner gentle and courteous.

"Congressman Evans, it's an honor to meet you. Thank you on behalf of my sister."

Evans waved his hand:

"Hey, it's all about cooperation and mutual benefit. How about you two, do you want to go to the event separately?"

"Alright."

Rosalind, arm in arm with Wayne, went downstairs with Senator Evans, left the Grand Hotel, and walked towards the center of Times Square.

Night had fallen.

Jazz music drifted from the direction of Times Square.

It seemed that the race had not officially started yet, so there were hardly any other pedestrians along the way.

Only the numerous guests emerging from the Grand Hotel walked towards the center of Times Square, chatting and laughing all the way.

The streets were already filled with a rich aroma. Various foods were mixed together: main dishes, fast food, desserts…

The kitchen lights of the roadside restaurants were still on, the neon signs of the jazz bars were flickering, and the tram tracks stretched along the road.

Every household and shop seemed to be busily cooking, preparing, anticipating, and welcoming...

In the center of Times Square, in front of the Times Building.

A high platform was erected, and on the platform was placed an extremely long and huge wooden table.

That was the venue for the competitive eating contest, but the place was empty, the music was soft, and the spotlights had not yet been fully turned on.

Wayne gazed at the high platform in the distance, and blurry images gradually surfaced in his mind: a frenzied crowd, out-of-control players, a plethora of delicious food, and chaotic revelry...

I did go to the competitive eating contest last night, and a champion was decided in the end.

Although I can't remember some of the details clearly, that joyful and excited feeling still lingers in my heart.

So much so that just watching from afar filled me with anticipation for the upcoming match.

Soon, Evans led Rosalind and Wayne to the center of Times Square, around to the back of the platform, which was the backstage area for the competition.

The backstage area for the competition was quite spacious, with a simple small VIP lounge area where many guests gathered.

Outside the rest area, a food preparation area has been set up, with a row of stoves and preparation tables. Many chefs in white uniforms have gathered here, preparing basic ingredients.

Evans suggested with a smile:

"Miss Weber, how about going on stage to show your face when the competition starts? I can get you a spot. Eat and drink whatever you want, and don't worry about the ranking. This is a great opportunity for your company to gain exposure, it's a rare chance."

Rosalind smiled slightly and nodded gently, just about to agree.

But Wayne suddenly interrupted, "Sis, I don't want you to go on stage to compete."
