Cthulhu Panel: One organ mutates every day

Chapter 50 Wayne's Daily Life

The Ritz restaurant is bathed in the bright morning light.

The high dome is paired with a crystal chandelier, and the gilded lights are still on. The long solid wood dining table is glossy and warm, and guests come and go.

Last night, before Lena left, she told Wayne that she would make him breakfast this morning.

With anticipation in his heart, Wayne entered the restaurant, looked around for a while, but did not see that beautiful figure.

Perhaps Lena is busy with work. After all, the logistics department is responsible for the daily lives of the Special Bureau personnel at the hotel. Moreover, Lena is also one of the shareholders of the Ritz Hotel, so it's understandable that she's a little busy.

Unfortunately, without new dishes, the progress of [eating] increases slowly.

Wayne was a little disappointed and prepared to grab some breakfast from the buffet area, choosing some that he hadn't tried before in order to increase his eating progress.

Suddenly, a gentle and delicate female voice came from behind:

"Oh, Wayne the messenger is here?"

Wayne turned his head to look.

Lena's eyes were gentle, and she wore a long emerald green dress with a white cotton apron tied in front, outlining the graceful figure of a mature woman. She swayed her hips slightly as she slowly walked towards Wayne.

"Sister Lena? I'm just..."

"Looking for me, right?" Lena's smile was evident in her eyes.

"Yes, I miss Lena's cooking." Wayne, seeing Lena's smiling eyes, readily admitted that he had come to see her.

Lena lightly covered her lips with her fingertips, chuckled twice, and pulled Wayne to a table by the window: "Wait a moment, your sister made breakfast for you in the kitchen and will bring it over soon."

"Okay." Wei En sat down steadily.

The floor-to-ceiling windows next to the dining area offer a wide view, with Lake Michigan visible in the distance across the buildings of Central. The morning light and mist on the lake create the most beautiful scenery in Michigan.

A moment later, Lena pushed the food delivery cart with its silver insulated dome over and stopped next to the table.

She gently brushed a strand of hair behind her ear, raised her hand to lift the dome, and warm white steam spread out, filling the air with fragrance. She then bent down to carefully place the plates one by one and asked with concern:

"How did you sleep last night? Did you have any more nightmares?"

"I haven't had any more nightmares. You're the most thoughtful sister Lena. You changed all the sheets and blankets in my room to a more comfortable set. I slept very well."

Wayne sat obediently, fully enjoying Lena's care and attention.

He thought to himself: This kind of life is unimaginable in the past, tsk tsk...

Hearing that Wayne had rested well because of her arrangements, Lena's brows relaxed, and she smiled frankly:

"That's good. Your efforts weren't in vain. Come and try some. You mentioned you wanted some home-cooked meals, and these are all made by me in the kitchen this morning. How do they taste?"

Wayne looked at the plates in front of him; they were indeed the most common home-cooked breakfasts of this era.

Two soft-boiled fried eggs, slightly charred around the edges, are accompanied by a few strands of crispy bacon and fluffy golden potato shreds. A stack of handmade waffles spread with butter sits beside a small glass jar of maple syrup. Whole-wheat toast is cut in half, served with a small bowl of freshly squeezed orange juice and a pot of rich, well-brewed black coffee…

Lena sat opposite Wayne, gently smoothing her skirt, wiping the edge of her apron, her hair falling over her shoulder, a faint smile on her face:

"Before, your sister saw that you had a big appetite, so she specially added thick ham, thick sausage, and a pot of fried potato chunks. She also stacked three layers of pancakes, and if that wasn't enough, she also made braised beans."

Not bad.

Although I no longer have a Chinese food stomach, nor a Western food stomach, but a deformed stomach, I still have a strong appetite when I see these home-cooked meals.

"Thank you, Lena."

With a bright smile, Wayne picked up his knife and fork and began showing off his breakfast under Lena's watchful gaze.

"How does it taste?" Lena asked softly.

"It's delicious! Lena's cooking is amazing! But Lena, you keep watching me eat. Don't you want some?" Wayne stammered, his mouth full of bacon rolls.

"I've already eaten. My job is to take care of the daily lives of important people. I'll just watch you eat," Lena said with a smile.

"Oh, then I'll eat as much as I want." Wayne nodded.

"By the way, you're getting promoted to a full investigator today, right? Congratulations!" Lena pushed a small jar of homemade berry jam toward Wayne.

"Mhm." Wayne nodded.

"The process at the Messenger's office is really fast. Back then, after we met the promotion criteria, we had to undergo three months of training at headquarters, be assessed on the training results, and pass a qualification test before we could be promoted to formal investigators," Lena remarked.

"Will the assessment be very strict?" Wayne asked, taking a sip of orange juice.

"Yes, but our Sixth Logistics and Combat Readiness Section's standards are slightly lower, while your Seventh and Fifth Sections' standards are often higher," Lena said slowly.

Fifth Section, Special Operations Section. Sixth Section, Logistics and Combat Readiness Section. Seventh Section, Special Investigations Section.

Thinking about the Special Affairs Bureau's rating system he was about to witness, Wayne asked, "Does the Special Affairs Bureau's rating system apply to all personnel?"

"Yes, strictly speaking, if you want to measure an individual's overall qualities, the scoring system in the bureau is the most useful and intuitive. I heard that it was designed by a human prophet hundreds of years ago, and later improved by a great figure, and finally perfected and established. It is widely recognized not only in the Special Bureau, but also in the Eastern Continent." Lena raised her eyes slightly, her dimples were shallow, and she told about the interesting stories she knew.

"I see, that's quite interesting. I should be able to see it soon." Wayne nodded slightly and continued to show off the breakfast in front of him.

After almost finishing eating, Wei En had a thought, and the twisted threads gathered before his eyes.

[Feeding Lv.1 - Digestion] Progress: 52.6%

"More than 10% progress is not bad. Eating progress has always been the fastest increasing, provided that I eat foods that I have never eaten before and that are not the same as before," Wayne concluded in his mind.

Seeing that Wayne had almost finished eating, Lena glanced at the empty plate, handed him two napkins, and said contentedly:

"Alright, you've eaten and drunk your fill. Today should go smoothly. The only thing you need to be careful about is acquiring the pollution trait, which is somewhat dangerous. However, you are a messenger, and I've heard that the process for messengers to acquire pollution trait is rather special. You can experience it for yourself."

"I understand." Wayne took the tissue and wiped his mouth.

[Charm Lv.1 - Affinity] Progress: 52.1%

The breakfast was quite substantial. Under Lena's watchful eye, Wayne ate rather slowly, chatting as he ate, which took quite some time.

The restaurant gradually emptied out, sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows, and the gilded lights were turned off.

The two got up and walked out of the restaurant side by side.

At the corner of the restaurant entrance, I encountered Lillian, who was hurrying into the restaurant.

"Huh? Wayne, Lena, have you already eaten?" Lillian's hair was messy, clearly she had just gotten up and tidied up, and was now disheveled from the rush.

Wayne greeted her with a smile, "Hey, Lillian, it's been a while. I haven't run into you at breakfast before."

Lena looked surprised, sized Lillian up and down, and then asked:

"Miss Lillian, you usually get up very early, why are you so late today? Haven't you had breakfast yet?"

Do you usually get up early? Why did you get up late today?

Wei En frowned slightly, vaguely realizing something.

Lillian sighed in annoyance and complained to Lena and Wayne:

"I didn't sleep well last night... I had a nightmare. I was fighting the whole time in the dream. It seemed like it was pretty exciting, but it definitely affected my sleep..."

Wei En listened from the side, his heart pounding: A nightmare?
